Imagine being a pro boxer with a record of 33-18 and only being remembered as a guy with one glove who tapped to mount

I don't know If BJJ/UFC kinda killed that 80s "warrior spirit" (being a boxer/karateka) or just make it evolve.

I haven't been able to get a straight answer, just how good was Art Jimmerson, really? Was he a legit contender in his day, or was he a jobber/journeyman? And specifically, where would he be ranked in '93?

He was a nobody

Won one two star fight in the 80s, that's it

Just going off wikipedia, the had a pretty good record up until 1994
Then again, the only opponents of his who have their own wikipedia page (meaning they're in any way notable) he lost against

The sort of people who would have done karate back in the day now do MMA/BJJ.

Most pro boxers aren't remembered at all.

Why did he wear the left glove? Doesn't the right hand need more protection?

That's a dogshit w/l by boxing standards.

I believe Art was a southpaw. So he wanted to protect his better punching hand

I don't get his defeat, even average boxers have the fastest hands, their close distance it's a death zone so Royce should have been knocked instantly, Or that's a 80s myth?

If Royce approached him with head up and hands down, he would get knocked out but instead he lowered his level and grabbed his legs so it's not so shrimple. This is not the level where boxers usually punch and even if he hit Royce, he would most likely hit the top of his head and not do shit.

A boxer doesn't hard-counter a grappler in punching range this isn't pokemon bro

Art Jimmerson wasn’t a notable boxer at all. He never won against anyone notable. Only few people fought in the early UFC so it makes sense.
