Anonymous No. 207430

Hope to get a breaking thread going after many witnessed the kino that was the Men's Breaking at the Olympics. Some people from the live thread on /sp/ suggested /xs/ which seems fitting as breaking is one of the most physically demanding of dances.

The next big event is The Notorious IBE 2024 happening next week Aug 16-Aug 18, where you'll see familiar competitors from the Olympics battle with their crews in both group and individual battles.

There are plenty of video tutorials online if one wants to get started and learn breaking, but the best way is to find your local groups/jams as the community is very welcoming.

What as your favorite moment from the Olympics? Picrel

If you have any semblance of core strength and flexibility you will unironically surpass her in a few months. A basic six step > coffee grinder > baby freeze which are some of the simpler moves will get you something that much more aesthetically pleasing than whatever she was doing.

Can you give a general overview of the pro scene?

Does anyone have an actual full video of her? I literally can't find anything except journos blabbering over the exact same three second clips

The lineups at the Olympics are pretty accurate for the bgirls/bboys (with the exception of Aus) in terms of individual ability. If there were no country restrictions (max 2 per country), you would see a couple more Japanese and Russian bboys/bgirls.

You can probably get to know the familiar faces in the pro scene by watching the bigger events in the year like Red Bull BC One (1v1 only), Freestyle Session, IBE or World Breaking Classic to name a few. All the big names attend these events which range from 1v1 to crew vs crew and the in between like 2v2/3v3.

The thing about crew battles is that each member doesn't need to be an insane all-rounder, like you would need to be to compete at the highest level in 1v1 battles. Each member has their own specialty such as being a power-head (think Hiro10), footwork focused, flexibility etc. They've also got routines which are pretty sick.

Some notable crews include:
Predatorz (Russia, Amir's crew)
The Ruggeds (Netherlands, Lee's crew)
Squadron (USA, Victor's crew)
Body Carnival / Foundnation (Japan)
Jinjo Crew (Korea, they are falling off, but are still probably the most famous)
Red Bull BC One All Stars is a crew that's akin to NBA All Stars as it's made up of most of the winners of the Red Bull Bc One as well as some really good breakers (featuring Hong10, Phil Wizard, Nicka, Menno, Victor, Ami)

You can probably watch the highlights of Red Bull BC One for the past couple years, and probably the semis/finals of a couple of other big events like Freestyle Session to get an idea of who's been at the top recently. Sadly there won't be an actual 'circuit' anymore with formalized seedings given breaking isn't in 2028.

Just tried doing turtles last week and unironically broke one of my ribs. Now it hurts to cough, sneeze, breathe deeply and of course turtle practise is now out of the question for a while. Be careful guys.

Issin and Haruto from Body Carnival killed it. Phil Wizard needs some help.

Yeah the 2 japs are gods. Phil tried his best but I think he was gassed in the last battle. He still carried Lil Zoo tho.

Also, anyone watching the Rep your country now? It's live on Youtube
