We're still using wood but the quality and process of making the boards is way different now than it was even 15-20 years ago.
The way veneers are cut and processed, glues and epoxy formulas and pressing/curing processes, etc.
Tires on a car are probably always going to be best as rubber, true 100 years ago and true now. Skateboards are probably always going to be best as wood.

Very possible. A lot of boards sold in the US come either from Mexico (mostly) or Canada.
Still weird to me that $65 -> $75 is the standard price these days. I remember getting good quality shop boards for $30 flat when I was younger, pro models for $45-50.

I played with a couple sets of Taildevils as a kid. They can be kind of fun, I think the Keen ramps guys fairly recently did a video where they laid flint inside of a rail they were skating so it sparked on grinds - Same with the most recent Halloween Hellbomb.
With the Taildevil pads themself, the pad makes popping really fucking awkward. Obviously the whole thing is a gimmick but does open up some neat possibilities.

I've always used the nose for that though, so I doubt I'll change. Only exception is if I'm going into a nose grind or manual, in which case I turn the board whichever direction ends with me landing on the nose for the balance.

Later in the summer I want to try SKF bearings. In the last year I've had Spitfire, Pig, and Bones and manage to break the cages on all of them fairly frequently. Apparently the SKF bearings are supposed to have a stronger/reinforced cage, I'll definitely know after a couple months of riding them if that's true or not.
Last time I pulled the bearings out of my wheels 5 of them were broken, had little plastic pieces of cage just rattling around/falling out.

I pretty much agree, the marketing with bearings is more bullshit than most other skate products. "Swiss made" bullshit, "Quantum diamond tech", etc.
The SKF interest me because they're the only ones that seem to actually have something different about them versus everything else - grease packed instead of a lighter lubricant, rubber shield on one side and metal sealed on the other.
Just curious to see if I can get a set of bearings to last longer than 2-3 months. But yeah - Generally there's no difference between $15 bearings and $45 bearings.

Makes sense considering you dropped a lot of height going to the smaller wheels, your tail is hitting the ground a lot quicker now.
Ghost pop is a timing issue but faster response is definitely one benefit of lower trucks (or in your case smaller wheels).

I tried Indys for a while but couldn't adjust to the higher truck, new wheels probably contributed too. Exact same problem of ghost pop and my flip tricks timing was fucked. I could borrow anyones board and kickflip it berter than mine. I now ride thunders with worn down wheels. I will guess 45mm anon grew up skating in the 90's or early 00's.

Venture cast lows, forged highs, and Slappy lows are the three trucks I go between depending on wheelbase and what I'm focusing on.
Slappy lows were really nice on a 14.25 WB.
