Downloaded several chars and unzipped content in right folders
character import works, but it seems it doesnt apply any morphs. all figures look the same. Am I missing sth? How can i check if morphs are applied correctly?
Theres no error message either, some figures have "Apply Head" scripts, but they dont change anything... :/

you should use the Daz Install Manager to install zip files that start with strings like "IM00045573-01_". That updates the smart content for you and you can keep track of things installed.
The "shaping" tab lists most morphs. You can go to that to search for and dial in morphs. Search the morph name and it should be there. You can do this in the "parameters" tab too which will list everything. Generally I wouldn't worry about some bad morph. It can all be fixed if you know how the system works. They morph assets are just files and all work the same way. The scripts that come with the characters are just helpers to dial in the morphs without going to the shaping tab. You don't need them or anything.

Looks like my 3 content folders got mixed up and daz only used the other small one and not my other main.
=> i deleted all base directories and readded the correct one.
Immediately took longer to load models and now base model got all the morphs added.
Im not sure if i can use daz install manager for illegal downloaded stuff. i simply extract those zips and put it into the base folder structure...

I think the wall texture is a little too bumpy I would increase the tiles and or maybe reduce the bump/normal strength to give it a smoother look. Also the lighting seems a little off. It seems to much like natural room lighting. I think there needs to be an area light to the right of the camera pointed at the subject to help light up the subject. I like the motion blur, also the hair and pose looks realistic not forced. Maybe dial back the vignette and use some other kind of framing device like an object in the foreground blurred from the depth of field

hehe yeah that "vignette" is simply a fast and dirty photoshop edit because the focus was off. But yeah a real composition I would have to take that into account.

From this angle I can notice that the texture for the normals needs to be a higher resolution or scaled down a bit. The texture starts to look blocky up by the shoulders and the seams on the chest. From far away its hard to notice but up close I can tell it needs to be a much higher resolution. Maybe upscale it in photoshop or gigapixel and see what happens.
How are the eyebrows and hair done? Is it one of those hair generator things? It looks good on the head but the eyebrows look a bit too fluffy and should be more fibrous.

Golden-genitals dont work at all, and "animations" (=poses) got horrible distorted when I tested.
Export/Import takes ages, too, since there are many single-CPU phases. Not a good workflow yet desu.
Im seriously considering using 8.1 GF with interactive license though since no free female so far in UE is naked, they all got plenty of clothes merged into them... :/

Uh, why does Blender mess up the geometry?
- export 8.1 via base script or manually didnt matter
- import in blender
- sculpt with deactivated dyntopo
- export back to obj
- morph loader pro => error
Didnt matter if i kept resolution (~29mb) or used base resolution (~2mb) obj. What am I missing?

make sure you export in BASE resolution from daz
also when you export from blender, make sure you check these settings:
Limited to: (X) selection only
Geometry: (X) Keep vertex order

first thing I do is only to keep the diffuse colour texture and then create a roughness map, normal, height and any special alpha I need for effects (cutout, height, 2nd layer and so).
There are many free editors out there that can create your maps but I just do them manually in photoshop for most things and only use the auto gens as a base.
Also I would suggest that you read up on Nvidia IRAY and how it handles the shaders. It is actually a very robust and powerful (I know people hate IRAY because its slow but its really not what people think).
Maybe I could help you with a specific case?

go to google and find good pictures of their faces without a facial expression.
You really only need a good frontal, 1-2 profiles (depends on how asymmetrical the persons face is) and a couple of odd angles for details (like one from blow, offset from the side and so on). With 6-7 good images you just put them on a second monitor and import the gen8 basemesh or your basemesh of choice into zbrush/blender or whatever sculpting you use. And then just start with getting the general shape down. Dont worry about details just get the scale of the different pieces in place. And then just work down from there towards more and more details.
SAVE all the time. Since sometimes you go to far in one direction and then need to reload to an old file. Its all about iterations.
That is at least how I do it.
Also dont worry about it not being a perfect 100%. Leave that to face scans and pros.

One option is an opacity map for the clothing item. if you want to modify the actual geometry, you'll need to use something like hexagon, blender, maya etc and learn the various pipeline processes for export import blah blah.

Most of the works I see generally angle the shot so you can't see the seams of the junk crudely parented to the character.

When that retard took over the company one of his first acts was to fire nearly all of the regular staff so it's only maintained by contract programmers who weren't there from the beginning. The giant hurdle is the idiot decision years ago to use JavaScript as the basis for DAZscript, something that depended on Trolltech to maintain Webkit inside Qt. That was all fine and dandy until Tt released Qt5 which removed Webkit and replaced the JS engine with a backwards-incompatible one. That happened a decade ago.

DAZ's CEO came from Cricut and he wanted from day one to turn the company into a video game asset store. That coincides with the last release of Qt 4.8, a legacy version of Qt 4 that DS requires. It's very likely Qt has no intention of supporting any version below 5 any longer. DAZ painted itself into a corner with DAZscript (built off of QtWebKit's scripting engine; Qt5 dropped QtWebKit altogether).
Meanwhile Poser's dev team bit the bullet and updated PoserPython to Python 3 in P12 because Poser's choice of UI toolkit (wxWidgets) never supplied the scripting language support to begin with. Poser's issue is getting past Cycles to something more modern.

This has been standard operating procedure at DAZ for at least 10 years now. They periodically release full V4/G4 for free roughly once a year despite no longer serving new content for those figures. Most of the time the free stuff is addons for a paid product, and if you have Platinum Club it's just deep discounts on old stuff with a few brief sales on new things.

It's an immense memory hog for a couple of reasons, but the end result is a scene with more than a few figures in it is massively slow to render even with Nvidia literally writing their render engine for them. DS likely needs a massive rewrite and also ditching Postgres as its db engine (it's the equivalent of installing Oracle on your desktop just to maintain your asset library) which has to be a massive impact on memory footprint and CPU.

Poser's issue is not crashing and having the damn thing work as it's promised. Poser 11 "big update" was all the features Poser 7 had except this time around they worked... kinda.
It's bar none one of the most unusable programs I had ever tried. One day it's working fine, then on Tuesday it decides to not work so well. Then it calms down little by little so on Friday it's back to working as it should. The errors with Poser are ENDLESS. And what's worse is that you can never figure out if it's an user error or a software error. I spent days trying to fix something only to read on some forum that Poser needs to be restarted once in a while because it gets tired if it's been running for too long. I'm not joking btw.
I finally stopped using after I got this never before seen bug that's even hard to describe. How did I fix the error? I just opened Poser, then closed Poser, then opened Poser, then closed Poser, and so on until at some point the bug magically vanished.
And then they charge money for it... yeah... no.

DAZ has never hired the best or the brightest software developers. They killed most of the products they bought out and their first foray into dynamic clothes was the Optitex fiasco where they never actually got the rights to the format, so they could only sell clothing Optitex himself made and the engine to use it.
This is the company that decided the best method for identifying what products you've bought when you visit the catalog is to literally store an array of all their product IDs in your browser storage because the Magento e-commerce package couldn't quickly enough retrieve the data. They installed the largest possible db engine because MySQL's license required payment but Postgres didn't. Genesis 8 is them walking back their vaunted Genesis 3 paradigm that replaced all the working joint controlled morphs with weight mapping.
Meanwhile the figures still can't simulate shoulderblade motion and fabric shrinkwraps.
DS doesn't suck but it's mediocre.

Because during Genesis 2 everyone made pretty faces and for some reason they all started blending together (sameface syndrome). So with Genesis 8 they started adding more realism so you can actually tell one figure apart from another.
V8 looks uglier because it's placed right next to a more stylized figure. V8 in that image looks also very similar to Taylor Swift but modified enough so they don't get sued. It's a common practice Daz does.
Attractiveness is dependent on the vendor.

iClone's demo videos show a clothing factory which copies the body mesh minus the parts that aren't meant to be clothing. This has been against the EULA for DAZ figures since they were still Zygote because it's reusing their content to make potentially saleable content. Your license to use their figures (that they now give away for free) stops at repurposing any of them as assets.
It's draconian for them to assert shrinkwrapping constitutes the same thing and that would be thrown out in court, but recycling the body meshes is not kosher.

Hey is there any tips on how to make character more cartoony/anime, not too much but less realistic than your typical daz character
Maybe something like overwatch or similar
So far things that works are
Bigger eyes
A little bit bigger head
No or less bump textures
Maybe you can give more tips?

yes, use more smooth unrealistic lines. Dont use detailed textures but go for that flat comic book look.
Look at this tracers googles. The white is just a simple flat white with some shadow baked in.

yes ofc. Just separate the top of your shirt from the bottom by surface. Then apply deforce and set the top part dynamic strength to 0 and the bottom to 100.
Just use the geometry tool to select the faces you want to create a new surface for (bottom for instance).

I dont know any guides sorry. But its pretty simple stuff really. However fixing meshes so they work well with dforce is mostly done outside of DAZ. You can connect vertex in DAZ but you have to do it manually by export the obj and open as txt file and edit.
I would recommend that you just take the mesh over in your standard 3d editor fix it.

Daz is useful if your primary pursuit is not 3D modeling, but requires the use of 3D models (animation, still 3D renders, video game development). The program itself is primarily useful for creating characters using morphs and interchangeable textures and then posing them for still renders. Dazlet here I heard you could achieve faster and sharper renders if you render at 4K at 700 iterations and then reduce downsample the the image to 1080p it will get rid of the noise and doesn’t have to render as long
