Alright, honest talk. Cards to the table. Filament is a google project that aims to render PBR somewhat almost right, i.e almost not entirely wrong, using phone GPUs. It has no connections with iRay. It doesn't care about Daz or iRay. You can certainly argue that Filament fills no niches, right now, because phones doesn't care about PBR, and you'd be right. But it's still relatively well coded, for what it is trying to do.

Daz looked at the tech, and decided it was a great PBR tech. Fine for me. Then they implemented a renderer. Again, fine for me. The Filament renderer shares absolutely nothing with iRay, and indeed produces images that are completely different from what iRay generates. That's the difference with, say, Blender pathtracing/raster PBR techs. Both of those techs have been literally developed together, such that one can be used for the other, if needed. Filament? Nah.

It's an entire other lighting model/shader model/everything really. You can, absolutely, produce high quality works with Filament. You just need to unlearn everything about iRay, and focus on Filament.

In the case of the plugin for DAZ - they make it for 5 years, and still not fixed very significant bugs, otoy changed the programmer, instead of faceof - BK is now responsible for the plugin for DAZ, development has not really accelerated.
But for the rest of DCC's they made a whole tier just for macOS, these nft fags should not be trusted and certainly pay any money for it.

explain how you would light that scene? I bet you would just over expose her the lighting is fine

Anonymous No. 860990

>>860989
So just for the most BASIC for it to be acceptable. First of all I would light the background separately. Once that I would crossfire a backlight and a key light for maximum dramatic effect of both highlights and shadows. A slight fill at 45 degrees to cover the shadows. I would then render a rim lighting effect as a canvas to use in photoshop. I would also separate colour from the foreground and the background by light spectrum opposites.

Anonymous No. 860991

>>860989
>I bet you would just over expose her the lighting is fine

Your lighting serves no purpose other than simply illuminate the scene. The fact you think it's fine just goes to show how little you know and how little you pay attention to the purpose of lighting.

If you don't want to be roasted, don't ask but more importantly if you're not interested in getting good, go post on reddit. People there will pat you on the head like a good little puppy.

I don't know if I really like the dramatic style, also how do you spectrally separate the background? where does the light source go?
On the right image I hust played with emitter planes until it looked nice, as always ;)

Anonymous No. 861006

>>861005
Wow, much improvement! Nice use of the colour as well.

> how do you spectrally separate the background? where does the light source go

Try to think of the same as lighting a character, you're bringing out the highlights and creating contrast. Basically, you're seperating the foreground and background. So for an example, you might mimic light coming in from a window and hitting an object. It might specifically need to be a hard spot light as opposed to an emissive.

Always be googling for real life photography examples.

Leaps and bounds though man. Well done.

Anonymous No. 861008

>>861006
*Also backlighting is REALLY important. Which is basically a reverse keylight to give your characters a "border" or an outline. Back lights can double as background lighting but for now try to consider giving your characters a natural outline with a light source.

Here's just a PSA to all daz enthusiasts out there. Literally all the good looking DAZ3D work is achieved in post; photoshop, illustrator etc.

The basic principles of lighting are applied in daz but literally ALL of the work to make it look good is done in post.

Also, 100% of the good daz shit is rendered in layers or as canvases

100% of the garbage crap is people trying to achieve an awesome look with just one render inside daz alone with no post.

Rise above the legions of mediocre goblin shit. Learn post.

Anonymous No. 862077

DAZ assets can be freely copied, they are not encrypted(unlike in the old days with many commercial Poser assets).

DAZ serves as my character builder. I then import everything into other applications(Maya or blender).

It's wise to organize your resources manually or with a content manager and NOT slam everything into a single, gigantic runtime. It gets really hard to keep track of things, and diagnosing problems will have you pick apart literally hundreds of thousands of files in a lager runtime folder.

My Figure folders (G1/G2/G3/G8/Others) are all organized into:
general morphs and essential files
clothes
hair
posses expressions props
the characters themselves
special products not fitting anywhere else

This way, you can map only whatever resources you need into your runtime.

Keep track of what assets you use to build your character.

Seems like a lot of extra work, but in the end it will save you a lot of grief.

But ultimately, falls over due to very flat lighting on the character, no seperation from character and background in lighting and not enough time put into making the pose believable.

The good:

Pretty good composition, a case of someone who understands the rules and then how to break them. The use of colour is nice, but is mostly attributed to photoshop and a saturation/contrast effect. The posing is nice and believable but the elongated character is weird and different, but that might be a design choice.

The bad:

The depth of field is shockingly bad. About 1 inch of skirt is in focus.

They don't really understand how to the use the camera in the most important way. The author also understand this, which is why if you look at top half of the character, particularly, the hands, the eyes and the face you can see an OVER-abundance of photoshop sharpening effects that trying to compensate for the DOF disaster.

A+ Tier renders. Your eye for quality has come leaps and bounds my guy. You can see it now, which is awesome.

>Why is it good?

Character and background separated , while also connected through independent lighting and overall lighting. Every light has a specific purpose and is executed properly. Use of colour is exceptional. Meaning composition.

The real magic is the understanding how to light in daz, to translate into post. Again, you're foolish if you're trying to do the the entire image within one render without photoshop.

>The bad?

Really heavy texture effects and MASSIVE contrast ironically flatten the image if it's all sharing the same effect. He could easy up a bit and distribute the contrast and texture meaningfully but it's still pro quality work.

Pretty easy. When using full dforce dont use the auto fit function at all. Fit the clothes manually to the character at 0 in the time line. Then run a dforce simulation animation where you set the character to morph into its obese / massive tits form at 30-100 frame.
If you use auto fit the clothes will morph with the characters shape and you wont get the effect you are looking for.

remember to up the mesh to high resolution at subdiv it 2-3 times so its really really fine mesh.
Then in the simulation tab change the "Collision mesh resolution" from base to Viewport. That way the simulation will take far longer but you will get far more creases and folds in the cloth (depending on the mesh and what you are going for).
Also go with the surface tool and select the parts of the cloth / mesh that you want to expand and what you dont want to expand / shrink. For instant you dont want the entire bra to get smaller or larger but maybe only the cups and so on.

I don't think it's good. I just imagined your critique in the form of the other opinion discarded meme template but 3D. I think the current buff blonde girl anon did something similar to that rendering a quote being thrown into a bin.

Daz and Blender are not comparable and this where alot of people fail to understand the program correctly.

Blender is for 3d modelling animation etc

Daz is exclusively photography. Now, a big part of photography is composition and modelling. The only inherent difference is that you doing these things within a digital environment and not irl.

no, like i said at the beginning of the thread. jannies delete anatomical nudes, leave the porn up forever, people can't post in their hobby thread because it's full of "industry" pros who post 0 work at any point, and larp about the money they make, and start talking about blender and zbrush. you literally can't have a conversation or any critique because a bunch of retards will show up to derail everything before a janny does his weekly check for too much side boob, while scrolling past the goblin gangbangs.

Not bad too be honest. You've clearly studied or understand some fundamental art theory.
You've also had some practice with Daz enough to understand the relationship between skin tone, mapping and color.

Just understand that soft lighting, emissive lighting/hdri only isn't going to work for everything. Unless you aim is just to push out coomer shit, then it doesn't matter. You're already better than 90% of the VN's currently.

Also understand that good renders is 5% Daz and 95% photoshop.

Things to research:

Backlighting, Background lighting, Rim light, Ambience and general photoshop postwork.

That guys pictures are always so low effort. He didn't even bother to sculpt the swimsuit to make it fit or look halfways realistic.... Also, they are out of focus all the time. I don't mind the faceapp - I think it can enhance a render like photoshop postwork can, if applied tastefully.

You idea of how DAZ3d works is backwards. Renders server as base to develop further artwork. Renders are not the artwork themselves. This why 100% of shit dazwork is people trying to create a render solely.
