🧵 blender is a failure

Anonymous No. 859463

Alright alright, let's see what happened with blender.
I WANTED TO MAKE ASSETS LIKE THIS, SO I DECIDED TO USE THE DONUT BLENDER TUTORIAL, MANY TIMES I ATTEMPTED THIS.

Here are the two threads I made about this
>>858303
>>854885

NOW IT TURNS OUT I CANT USE BLENDER, SO TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED NOW
WHY CANT I USE BLENDER
NO WHY DOES BLENDER INSIST IN FUCKING ME LIKE THAT

What should I use instead?

I get the feeling, you're following instructions to a T and there are things that don't work. If searching online doesn't work, you should ask questions in an active discord for Blender as opposed to here. This board is inactive and people know how to fix their mistakes.

In the meantime, put aside the donut tutorial for now and start on a project. Ask yourself questions like:
1. How would I model a character like that?
2. Do I want my models to be real time 3d models or rendered images?
3. If it is angled in an isometric way, can my character get away with less detail while making it readable?

i understand your frustration. I started 3d with an interest in making low-poly animations as a one man team. you can do it anon, but you have to keep your spirit up. I don't mean to be patronizing, but you have to calm down. remember that nobody here is obligated to help, you cannot come as a beggar and behave as a king.

You can very easily create those graphics in blender. can you elucidate any immediate issues you need help with? maybe start with the most important first. I can help you.

If you want to create rendered background images like those in planescape torment, there's really very little need for you to be following the doughnut tutorial.

Half the battle in 3D art is learning the interface of whatever software you're using, and understanding how different parameters will alter models.

Fuck the stupid donut tutorial. I doubt anyone here ever did the stupid donut tutorial.

Decide what you actually want to make. Draw it on paper first if you want to. Then start modelling. When you want to do something but don't know how to, search youtube for how to do THAT SPECIFIC THING. If you value your time, set the search filter only show videos under 4 minutes long - this will give you fast, no-bullshit answers.

If you don't even know what you should be searching for, ask people.

ALSO: Feel free to use assets made by other people. It might feel like cheating, but you're honestly a fool if you waste hours, days or weeks of your time modelling something that you could've just downloaded and imported into your scene.

I second this. the issue that I am seeing you have with the donut tutorial isn't easy for me to help with unless i could get a copy of your blend file, and besides, i don't think you really need the donut tutorial to be honest. I think it's not the best route to use if you're learning 3d for a specific purpose.

In general i only watch tutorials that cover a very specific issue. i don't think you need the donut to do what you're trying to, not at all.

Having looked at it, I don't think there's actually anything wrong with your donut, and that you're worrying about clipping that's going to disappear as soon as you add the solidify modifier.

Either way, fuck the stupid ass donut, it's not gonna help you model anything other than donuts. Honestly, it's a shit tutorial that teaches almost nothing. Literally multiple steps backward from the classic 'how to model a teapot' tutorials of the 90's.

You need to learn modeling, texturing, and rigging. Rigging is only for moving characters though, as it's a function of attaching a mesh to an animated skeleton.

Where do you want to start? Backgrounds or characters? Know that it is always the most painful in the beginning, but that you get much faster as time progresses.

I want to start modelling characters, definitely not high detail and not meant to be seen in high res or up close, Planescape level, how can I do that?

Once again: Don't bother modelling them. I almost guarantee the Planescape Torment devs rendered some stock bodies only modeled clothing on top of them.

https://opengameart.org/content/charging-minotaur

This is lower poly than what they rendered for planescape, but it's set up and ready to render to sprites if that's what you want to do.

if you're wanting to go for that old pre-rendered PC graphics look, just turn down your light bounces to 0. Old render engines couldnt do light bounces so anything not directly hit by light is pitch black

Instead of waiting to be spoonfed everything, why don't you go do something?

You made this thread the better part of a week ago. That's almost a week in which you could have tried to put together a scene or a character, but instead you're just asking for magic answers.

There is no easy trick. There is nothing we can tell you that is gonna solve everything for you and make it so that you know what you're doing.

Learn by doing.

>I can always make more threads, you refuse to help me? Ok then.

You don't want to be helped, you want someone to wave a magic wand that will transfer 15 years of knowledge into your brain in an instant. It can't be done.
You are not going to learn this without effort and frustration on your part.

>>860332
>why invest time into something you don't know, if the conditions for something are not ideal then why bother?

You are never going to get anywhere in life with this attitude. If you want 'ideal' conditions then go drop $100k on a degree from some california commie school. Until then, learn to take people's advice and put your own effort in rather than expect to be spoonfed every little thing for free.

You've been told what to do, you've been told how to search for relevant tutorials. You're not asking any pertinent questions here, like 'how do I extrude this shape without getting flattened' or something specific we can realistically help you with. Instead you asking for total answers to everything and not understanding that answer would be a 700+ page book that would be out of date by the time it was published.

Let me tell you a secret.
While blender is free literally no free tutorial will tell you how to use it to create what you have in your brain.

Want to know how to model in blender like this ? Pay me to teach you. Simple as.

I made this in blender.

Did you create this to be fragile and terrible to print on purpose?
Print the parts seperately and glue them together you dingus, this print will take way too long and eventually break while cleaning it up.

No. I simply go with the creative flow.

Cool I first make the base model and see how it looks then I can split it into parts for you to print. Literally no fucken need for that if most fagots are not interested in printing it, tell me you will print it and I do that so you can post the photo how it looks after printing.

Oh wait you will not do that ? Yea no need for me to do extra work for literally no one then.

Because I like how it uses shading, some details are not easy to see in the default blender preview. I'm a modeler not a renderer.
