Simplerockets: 2d intro to orbital mechanics and rocketry basics like staging. Like a (much) simpler KSP. This could be a good gateway drug for people who are too intimidated by KSP. I have ~20 hours on Steam.

Simpleplanes: Pretty easy to use but interesting aerodynamics simulator. I have ~2000 hours on Steam, and hundreds more on my phone.

Simplerockets 2 (renamed Juno): 3d rocket simulator, has some things better than KSP and some things worse. I have ~100 hours on Steam.

Factorio: factory simulator. Basically what we will need to do when we go to Mars/Moon/Alpha Centauri etc. I have ~7000 hours on Steam.

To respond to this from Mike's blog, it doesn't work because the radius of the universe has changed with expansion. Both the radius and min acceleration would change in cosmic history, according to QI the min acceleration is 2c^2/Dh. So the acceleration should be different, the radius certainly isn't. You can't talk about expansion and then assume everything is constant.

If you are were following the same path I did for undergrad. Electricity and magnetism would be in you physics class 2nd semester freshman year, and you will continue with that in an analog circuit class 1st semester sophomore year. Fluids was 2nd semester sophomore year, alongside thermodynamics. Aerodynamic 1 in the first semester of junior year, with aero 2 and experimental aerodynamics (aero lab) the following semester.

Now if you are in a worse program, I have seen ones where you don't do Aerospace specific classes until second semester junior year, and it is like they waste you time in general education and then general engineering before letting you do your major specific stuff. If I had to guess this is done so undecided people can go in without a plan and they don't have to nail down what they want to do until junior year.

> MAJOR MILESTONE ALERT Spaceship Neptune's capsule structure is now complete! This #capsule will be used in our next test #flight, which we are calling Flight 2. In 2021, we successfully flew a capsule simulator to #space with Flight 1. Since then, we’ve been designing and manufacturing the pressurized capsule, which will be used in our upcoming uncrewed flights to test corner cases. Data gathered will inform the build of a commercial-grade capsule and pave the wave for crewed test flights later next year. The completion of the capsule structure is the result of highly #complex and integrated work that our Founder, Co-CEO and CTO, Taber MacCallum, calls “one of the greatest iterative collaborations I have ever seen,” and marks a pivotal step toward offering the world an extraordinary, completely reimagined #spaceflight #experience.

And at the end of their lifespan they can just land in a military base, their unused bombs recovered. So they don't waste good bombs and don't release 235U and 239Pu in the atmosphere as it would happen it they were to burn at the reentry instead of landing.

ULA has no future. ULA will only do 3 launches in 2023. SpaceX will do around 100. I used MS Paint to put both companies launch histories in the same scale. As SpaceX's launches grew, ULA's shrank. Now with Atlas and Delta retired, they're left beholden to BO for engines, and BO has shown no capacity to deliver anything on time. Because ULA has tiny & unreliable current and future cash flows, if it does sell it will be for a pittance. Everyone who is paying attention can see the writing on the wall. Their reliance on BO and the success of SpaceX has killed them.

I think it's more likely than not that New Glenn will at least make a launch attempt next year. Starship will also reach initial operational status next year, but it's going to be putting in work practicing fuel transfers for Artemis and launching Starlinks for a while before it gets listed for commercial customers. SpaceX wouldn't be planning on trying for 150 launch years in 2024 and 2025 for the Falcon 9 if Starship was almost ready for prime time.

On the other hand, Blue's said in the past that they were planning for a monthly launch cadence for New Glenn at its peak, which seems to be a significant lack of ambition considering the competition it's up against.

He has a lot of work to change the company culture, but it was his idea to get that NASA contract where they have to hit a 2024 launch window. what Jef said about one way door decisions is true, an example being the diameter of starship.
They downsized the ship significantly from the 2016 variant primarily because they had so much trouble making large carbon fiber tanks, but when they made the switch to steel they didnt increase the diameter again, and over the course of the steel era we have seen them increase the length of the ship and booster edging back toward 2016 performance. Ultimately they will be stuck with another pencil shape rocket which is worse than taking the time to realize they should have upped the diameter. Ship landing tolerances will be worse on other worlds, and the booster will need to use more prop to land amongst many disadvantages

That is actually a very interesting concept i haven't thought of. Starships lift capability really does open up many new possibilies

There are companies spun from spacex doing the third party last mile to any-orbit. People have confidence in SpaceX, they have confidence in people who worked at SpaceX, they have confidence in those that work with SpaceX to deliver the last mile service products.

So RocketLabs's niche will shrink considerably. Their neutron wont help them as thats just competes directly with Starship at an unaffordable price/capacity

>>15925193
This was expected, plus HLS is basically a mobile moon base. China is still 2029 or 2030 ASSUMING that their schedule doesnt slip. Its probably fine, thats also when Starstation PDR is also supposed to happen so 2028 seems like a good year.

The issue is that unless nothing changes in Artemis program, China will overtake NASA in manned Lunar exploration. It's ridiculous that no person in charge is talking about this.

ok, clad the entire methane and ox tanks in small pipes to run coolant around the entire surface without adding significant mass, then get back to me.

Post in the linked thread and potentially win one of five copies of KSP 2: GOTY Edition. Your chances of winning might be fairly decent since the forum doesn't usually get that much traffic.

Irrelevant when the main problems are still not fixed: graphics, wobbling, and those ridiculous aerodynamic vortexes that come out of every corner of the ship at just a few m/s.

At least look at the features and performance improvements for the next update before making dumb claims, they're not just adding science parts.
>those ridiculous aerodynamic vortexes that come out of every corner of the ship at just a few m/s.
How is that a "main problem"? Autism.
