Ive only heard bad things about academia for research because of the hyper competitive funding. Also when it comes to publishing papers you have to play the game of putting your name on papers you had no real contribution to in order to get your H score up.
I want to go into research for genetics, specifically rare disease. Is industry a better career choice if I dont want to play the papers game and just want to solve problems and be in a lab?

You are poop-colored. Yours is a race of manlet, dicklet, rapey, filthy, low-IQ scammers. Iโd be resentful too if I had the terrible luck to be born a jeet. If I could look upon another race and know that they were superior in every measurable (and immeasurable) respect. Iโd lash out at them too. Donโt worry, when the white race awakens (the process has made immense leaps in just the past four years), we wonโt be too harsh on you. We will return to the natural order of things, acting as your benevolent father. But you will need to face some discipline for your behavior of late first. At least, thatโs the best you can hope for. If we decide the lesser races arenโt worth our effort and isolate ourselves, have fun back in India! I have faith youโll figure out plumbing without us, someday.

its true, i would dread being around a bunch of judgemental teenagers. the money is not a big issue and i'd be going in-state. managing pre-requisites is tricky but ideally i'd be done in 6 semesters, and theres 2 summer semesters. so theoretically i could be done by 1st summer semester of 2026 if i start this spring, or in about 18 months and since i have a degree already i could skip a lot of electives BS.

Just because they technically have summer semesters doesn't mean they will be offering the courses you need, especially in a program like chemistry. At my college the summer selection was very limited and never included upper level stuff.
Getting them to count your previous course work is usually a chore, you have to realize that they want you to take more classes and spend more money. What is your degree in?

great point. i chec.ked last years summer catalog and while they do offer 1st and 2nd year chem classes in each 6 week semester, theres only one 3rd and one 4th year chem class I need that I could take in the summer. at least it would work for the first summer of knocking out a couple pre-req classes before i could load up on multiple higher level classes. my degree is worthles liberal arts lel, I had no idea what to do when i was 19. never even used it so its only use would be skipping me through electives. So it looks like It would take more like 2 whole years unfortunately. I would much prefer online but you cant get a chem degree online..

Yeah there's too much lab work to do it completely online.
When you are getting advised about your study plan and what classes will transfer in, be annoying as shit about each class you think should count and make them explain to you exactly why it won't, multiple times if necessary.
You have to think every class that you can get transferred in is saving you thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of effort.
When I transferred colleges, they said that my physics 1 and 2 couldn't be transferred even though they were both calculus based and both ABET programs. I fought them to an obnoxious level and they finally were just like okay fuck it we will count them and I saved myself a year of work not having to redo those.

The job market now is so much worse. Even though my resume is much better and actually has experience on it now, I get basically auto-rejected from everything I apply to, can't even get an interview to save my life. I'm not necessarily looking to move on from my current job but I always look to see what's out there and how the job market is doing, and whenever I do apply to stuff it's just instantly rejected. It's night and day from when I was a fresh grad, it's so bizarre.

A lot of 40 and 50 year old white people do, itโs the only cohort where suicide goes up as you age.

Before 40 it's easier to sustain yourselves with fanciful projections of the future and delusions that you will live forever. Most young people simply take it for granted that they are actually immortal. Intellectually they understand that "everyone dies" as some sort of abstract theory, but deep down they know that they will live forever and they have an infinite amount of time and pleasure waiting for them.
Then you start aging, your parents die, life doesn't turn out how you think, all the people you knew either went their separate ways or died, and it's like, you just have nothing. And the realities of an aging body start to intrude on your daily thoughts and make it more and more difficult to delude yourself. And you realize there is no wonderful future to daydream about anymore really, this is it, this is all there is going to be for you. Your entire life has been an exercise in atomized materialistic hedonism and you have no spiritual resiliency or convictions at all, so you finally just collapse inward on yourself like an empty soda can and then the neighbors are making a call to the police to report the stench of a decomposing body a few weeks later.

The bible for ICE is Heywood's Fundamentals of Internal Combustion Engine. I bought it in hard cover and it's one of my jewels. But don't think about touching it at your stage, it's pretty heavy stuff for someone new. You need good fundamentals in engineering to even understand some of the formulas he's describing in it.
People in the industry buy it to show off and pretend they read it or look like they know what they're talking about but I don't know anyone who actually took time to read it. I've read it from cover to cover and I develop natural gas engines professionally. It's dry but it's the gold standard.
Otherwise this book list is pretty solid. Read the relevant assigned chapters and you are good during your education.

I would say medium level, not a lot but it can be occasionally. The main things to do with the bureaucracy (the board) are quality control of output product and budgeting for equipment, as well as equipment repair. One other thing that comes up occasionally is the hazardous waste disposal process, but I've learned lots of companies owners tend to slack on that.

I know the feeling - I lucked out into a low-tier academic position (the school being over-a-barrel trying to fill a sudden vacancy before the semester certainly helped), but I've been locked into that position for six years now. Every new position I apply to either automatically rejects me or just ghosts me entirely. Even with my resume getting steadily fleshed out, and even with all the research I've published and grants I've received over that time, I've applied to almost a hundred postings over the last four years and gotten nothing but instant rejections or ghosting. It's seeming more and more like this is just it, this is as good as it will get for me.

Honestly even just practice machining stuff and figure things out through trial and error. I picked up a dremel and some bits when I was in grad school just so I'd have the equipment and excuse to tinker with shaping pieces, cutting and finishing and drilling and tapping parts, etc. It's not a replacement for a good machining workshop (my own has expanded significantly since graduation), but it's a good start to get you thinking about practical things like how to make pieces fit together, the order of operations for making things, and so on.

Wonder how difficult it is to get away with making up fake experience. I had a five year gap between my second and third post-university jobs, which for some reason freaks out HR and recruiters. No matter how many times I say I took time off the travel, hike, and visit family, they look at the five year gap like it was a prison term. The only reason why I don't make up a job at a company that has gone bankrupt is my resume was already out on LinkedIn with the gap on it. Don't know if there's some weird tracking system that's sold to HR department to notice that shit.

Of course, but not everyone has access to that. Hell, I'd never had access to basics like a drill press, grinder, or band saw until after I'd started working for a professor (my undergrad school was mostly theoretical faculty, so no machining equipment on site), let alone more complicated equipment like mills, lathes, CNCs, etc.; but by that point I'd gotten comfortable with basic shaping and working of materials so it wasn't hard to pick up more practical skills.
Any experience is better than none.

You all need to learn how to save money and achieve FIRE. If you make $150k/year before tax and save a good chunk of it (only spending $60k/year and putting the rest in the S&P 500, bonds, and savings) you can retire in less than 20 years while having $80k/year to freely spend for the rest of your life. It only requires a net worth of a little over $2m.
If you're not able to reach that salary, then you either need to spend less pre-retirement, spend less post-retirement, or work for longer. You literally just need to save $25k/year and rely on the conservative stock returns to set you free. Even if you don't start this until you're 30 you'll be retired by the time you're 50. You can also easily live off of $45k-50k in most parts of the country and retire that much sooner if you give up some luxuries.
All of this is easily attainable with a STEM career. What's your excuse?

How insightful. Never would I have thought that if I made 3x my salary and saved up most of it I would be able to retire after only 20 years or slaving away, leaving me with a total of 0 healthy years before the accumulated stress, poor lifestyle and lack of healthcare access kills me off.
I'm not american and a 150k salary is literally unheard of in my country. It's not even a massive shithole, although we're getting there pretty quick. But I make about $60k as a STEM PhD with degrees and postdoc from global top 5 institutions working an industry job.

On the topic of the pic posted by OP, as someone who studied in India for a while and have some pajeet friends, fake resumes and experiences to land 6 figure tech jobs for Indians is a multi million dollar black money industry here in Texas alone.
I know a person who is a multi millionaire facilitating these fake degrees and experiences along with connections to some recruiters, and this man was a gas station owner before covid. They take around 30-40% of all the salary of the people that get jobs through their service.
Honestly this is partially one reason for the tech crisis right now and I have no conceivable answer as to why this hasn't been uncovered or blown up by now. Maybe most of the Indians that go down this path just have the intellect to grasp these tech jobs before their cover blows up.

Simply put, because a lot of powerful and influential people want it to keep happening.
The government (which is controlled by jews) see it as a way to attack the majority native population and make their position more secure through "open society" demographic tinkering.
The corporatists see it as a labor form of blockbusting.
The leftists see it as a stealth reparations program to funnel money to non-white groups.
The only people who ostensibly oppose stuff like this either have no institutional power at all (normal, every-day Americans) or have betrayed their obligations and been paid off.
In other words, you have no champion and no one is coming to save you.

The point of using a company that went out of business is so there's no one to check the employment history with. The fake experience would just be things I've already done but it still seems risky. I think you truly do not understand how different the numbers are outside of the US. I make around 60k per year pre-tax, but that's about 40k per year post-tax. As it happens, currently I live like a rodent and own a shitty little flat. So I can live on 12k per year, just about. This leaves me with 26k per year in savings. So, I can more or less match these FIRE calculations.
But this is only the case because I'm a lifeless incel substisting on the bare minimum, I literally only work and sleep. If I ever want to have things like a family or even a car or a nicer flat or eat at restaurants that goes out the window and I will live hand to mouth.
For this country, in terms of salary I'm in the top 20% and in terms of monthly savings I'm fairly certain I'm in the top 10% or more. So yes, I can retire one day, assuming I live in an old one-bedroom flat alone and eat beans until I'm 50 (and then I'll have barely enough to not work but continue that lifestyle until I gracelessly expire).
Here, it's supposed to be part of the social contract that you pay out your ass in taxes but the state has you covered for retirement, sickness, family and education. Unfortunately that turned out to be a pyramid scheme that is collapsing as we speak, and I think the people here don't fully understand it. Or if they do, I'm disappointed that they're not turning boomers into mincemeat. Taxes are higher than ever but the public systems are largely unavailable and this will only become worse.

It's the norm for junior level roles everywhere around the world. The reason I've been fed from the recruiters is that they do not want to dissuade people from applying but in truth they filter out most applicants who cold apply using ATS.
Networking is king. Companies have a budget for training fresh graduate hires so the people they pick are often people they click with or people who was referred by their friends/family. Because the people who hire these indians are not engineers themselves. They are liberal arts people with a finance or sales background. To them, an engineer is an engineer because he has a paper that says engineer, and these pajeets are attractive because they offer themselves for less than american engineers, so only a moron would not hire pajeets. Pajeets are also super servile which speaks to the egos of these people. Having finance or sales people leading a technological company is a recipe for disaster. But it is also the norm today.

Medicine, geology, space, finance, climate research all seem like interesting, viable options and I feel like I should take courses in at least one domain instead of only generic courses. My bachelors is in robotics, so maybe even something like computer vision in robotics could be interesting.
It's also about the question of money vs passion. Going into finance would probably give me a lot more possibilities and money than doing something in medicine for example. However, medicine is far more interesting I think?
I always thought research seemed interesting but I've heard too many horror stories and I'm too stupid to make it anyway.

It goes deeper than that, there is also an ideology at the core of all this where they believe they are doing some kind of moral service by actively making society less white so that a populist leader can never rise up and put the jews' shoes in a big pile ever again. It's more than just an economic drive that is causing this to happen, there is a rooted ideological component to it as well.
A healthy society would summarily execute people for mass importing indians. It's hard to think of something more viciously treacherous and evil, yet they unironically believe they are agents of moral good.

No. A degree used to mean something. Experience used to mean something. Certifications used to mean something. Now all of those have been rigged and in a low trust environment where you can't trust any qualifications, something has to fill the void, which in the case of tech hiring has become a mixture of hazing and astrology.
The candidate pool is 95% shit and no one understands how to find the 5% of good candidates buried in all the shit. For those who are the 5%, it's incredibly frustrating to see open positions for which they're very qualified to fill but can't access because those in charge of the hiring pipeline have no idea what to look for so they come up with all kinds of arbitrary criteria to filter candidates out. These filters are ill suited to their purpose and are the hiring equivalent of a woman getting "the ick" from a date. But if you're the woman/HR/recruiter, you see it as a way of whittling down the candidate pool, be it for a job or a relationship, which appears to be a positive even if it ends up rejecting most or all of the 5% who are a good match.

Medicine has the advantage of always being in demand. If you also happen to find it interesting, it's probably a good, solid path for you. Keep in mind that compensation has a point of diminishing returns. About a decade ago in the US, for the average person it was $70,000. Obviously that would be higher now, and varies by cost of living in an area, but the core reality is still the same that once you pass a certain income, increases in happiness and life satisfaction will mostly come from things other than more money.

I have seen the graph you are talking about, and I guess there is some truth to that. I'm not obsessed with money by any means, and I come from a low income household so I'm used to not having the newest things or going on vacation every year - and I'm grateful for it.
At the same time, I'm always fluctuating between what I find interesting and I'm afraid to dedicate myself to something I end up not enjoying as much in the future. I like to keep as many doors open as possible, but I realize I have to close some doors to get anywhere in life.
I'm a scandi so I will never get rich (or poor) the same way I could in the US anyway. So, I guess following whatever brings me joy (if I can figure it out) is the way to go. Just with my bachelors I will make more money than the average person in my country. The masters will bump that up even more independent of what industry I end up in.
I worked in the defence industry for 1 year and I was absolutely miserable, so I know how it feels to wake up and dread going to work. I probably can't put a value on happiness, can I.

There are several implicit ideas being conveyed in that story which unravel when examined. The idea behind the story is that we are supposed to be shocked and appalled that such a high status big-brain like "UCLA astrophysics professor" is in poverty.
However, if this is the best he can get then maybe his position isn't as powerful and high status as everyone assumed it was. Maybe he should get a part-time gig washing dishes at the local cantina, or is that beneath his station in life? Maybe he should go teach astrophysics in Oklahoma to the flyover deplorables. There are lots of options in life but many of them would interrupt his live-action roleplay of being a big shot in LA.

In Japan its pretty much open bar, the youth isnt doing science they just treat university as a big 4 year vacations and only the ToDai kids are worth their salt, so companies have a very hard time hiring, but theyre also adamant on not hiring non japanese speakers even though engineering has become an mainly english led discipline especially in tech.

They are not even looking for a "good" candidate. Most of the time they settle for someone who is "good enough" and that often boils down to they way they carry themselves in a conversation (interview) and how well they can get along (banter) with the hiring team. It all boils down being personable. Like I said, most people expect nothing from fresh hires. You are expected to be a blank state. It is still a win from a HR perspective if some desperate unicorn applied and managed to go through the screening process. The people who loses are the 95% who have to wade through 5+ rounds of technical + behavioral + IQ test + panel interview + case studies + hackathon challenge.

On the higher end, was proposed a 20Mยฅ salary at an american owned startup, but product was not great and market outlook felt bad to me, didnt want to fuck up my career for 1-2 years of good money. With that much money, you live like a fucking king, even the most money hungry women here dpnt even dream of having a boyfriend that earns that much.
Im currently paid 8Mยฅ and I am wayy above the median salary for my age bracket, people treat me like Im rich and have it all figured out. For US standards that can be low though.
Switzerland on the other hand pays similarly to the US, but the cost of living is ridiculous. In particular, I found swiss salary somewhat also offset the incredibly dull and boring life there. Sure you earn a lot, but you have nothing to do on your weekends and everything is closed by 6-7pm. People are also very cold, serious and hard to make friends with. Switzerland has a high quality service but that comes at a great price. For similar spending, my life would be 10x greater in the US, id have much more things to do, many more people to meet, overall days would be less dull and boring.

That is rather hilarious when you realise that the middle management layer is full of psychopaths.
I once worked in a company where this happened, and top management realised this way too late. So hands off stupidity lasting years meant they had to get rid of the garbage and make sure none of them ever advanced to the C-suite.

Theres no math, only mafia tactics. I'll summarize it as this: Jews and and hindustanis get wealthy by siphoning wealth from surrounding populations. Hindustanis do this in the private sector, jews also but moreso in government, where they will grant themselves business permits and write laws in their favor. Not to mention throw every court case in their favor.
Theres nothing else, its just a wealth transfer. This is why when hindustanis are in Bharat they are poor af, and while Israel isnt poor its still does the same trick of siphoning wealth, to the point of 70 billion years in the last year alone.
When jews are truly isolated they create shtetls.

If you can, you should in my opinion. The pay and opportunities are just way better. But the visa stuff might not be trivial, you're not the only person who'd want to work in the US.
Although it depends on what stage of you're life you're in and what you want moving forward. The thing about the US is that employees are less protected than in the communist hellstate nordics, and if you are unemployed with no money you are fucked. It's unlikely that with nordic salaries you'd have built savings that will last any time in a big US city (where the jobs are). But you'll always have the option of just going back home to suckle on the welfare teat if things go bad rather than living as a hobo in NYC.
If you're a healthy adult with no dependents it's a no-brainer. If you're planning to have kids imminently it might be a different equation. I regret coming back from the US.

A lot is changing these days
Sweden: close to failed state status has now realised it will take 10 years of hard work to root out the gangs. With 200 bomps per years, the average Swede got sick and tired. Still has very good universities and research labs.
Denmark: started border control against Sweden and their gangs. They realised where this is heading. Still has many good research labs.
Norway: socialists still deny Sweden has problems, continues to import problems. voters got sick and tired and will eject the Labour party, which in turn doubled down on importing voters and filling government positions with inept socialists. Universities are sliding down the ranking lists but remain popular with Iranian PhD applicants. Labs are good at self pronotion, but generally Norway has been described earlier in these threads as the place where science goes to die.

Dont you Americans have cheap/free college education at Community Colleges? Just get a degree online for cheap. Meanwhile, make your parents or family teach you how to drive.

It varies by state but in general community college is relatively inexpensive. Technical colleges often overlap with community colleges and also tend to be relatively inexpensive. In Georgia if you can maintain a 'C' or above average, tech school is 50% off and if you're enrolled in a program that's been identified as "in demand", it's free as long as you maintain the 'C' or above average.
But these schools tend not to have any of the lifestyle benefits that a young, horny student in their late teens/early 20s craves, so they're willing to go deep into debt at have access to that party scene. Community colleges generally only offer two year "associate" degrees, so for a bachelor or above, you need to transfer to one of those larger, traditional type schools, but you cut the cost nearly in half if you can live at home and take community college classes, especially in states where the course credits between the systems are aligned for easy transfer.

I've got a couple internship offers, and I'm really having a hard time picking which to go with. So far, the offers I have are for hardware reverse engineering and for RFSoC+GPU RF signal processing work. Neither of these line up directly with my field, as my previous research has been mobile computing, but both could be potentially useful. My plan is to apply for grad programs next year, so I'm trying to pick whichever would help me gain admission into a top EE program. In terms of potential skills and the type of work, which would you guys suggest going with? For more context, the reverse engineering gig is at a higher clearance, and both positions pay the same.

>I've got a couple internship offers,
Not bad, internshipsd are hard to come by these days.
>and I'm really having a hard time picking which to go with.
Remember, internships do not lock the rest of your career on to a single track. It is more about learning how industry works, and also gain some network.
>So far, the offers I have are for hardware reverse engineering
Can be interesting, since you will be working against experienced people, otherwise the reverse engineering would have been trivial.
>and for RFSoC+GPU RF signal processing work.
Sounds widely applicable. FPGA work too?
>Neither of these line up directly with my field,
Not a problem, really.
>as my previous research has been mobile computing, but both could be potentially useful.
Agree
>My plan is to apply for grad programs next year, so I'm trying to pick whichever would help me gain admission into a top EE program. In terms of potential skills and the type of work, which would you guys suggest going with?
RF signal processing sounds wider in scope but then again you haven't (and probably couldn't) say what the reverse engineering target would be or nvolve.
>For more context, the reverse engineering gig is at a higher clearance, and both positions pay the same.
Clearance has to be renewed, so you might need ity renewed once you complete your graduate studies. The need for clearance might probably limit what you can say about what you did during your internship.

Bro those people are never going back lol.
They will violently resist any mass deportation efforts. They consider themselves to be living on conquered territory. It would unironically take a civil war to deport them and white faggots don't have the stomach for that, so they simply lost their country. Random grenade attacks and mass rape are just part of Swedish culture now.

For one lab, they specifically don't have much FPGA work in that group due to the nature of the processing they are doing. For the reverse engineering internship, all I know is that is embedded systems work. Previous interns have done some wireless protocol reverse engineering, but I'm not sure if my work would line up with their previous projects. It could be hardware focused, software focused, or a mix of the two. In addition, I'll be graduating in fall of next year, so I'll have Winter 2026 completely free. Do you think its worth speaking with them and see if either organization is willing to delay my internship or re-interview me at the appropriate time for a winter 2026 co-op instead?

Intriguing. Preferrring GPU processing of RF data rather than using FPGA is unexpected.

Not sure I understand, but why would you want to delay?

Ideally so I could work at both places before starting my Ph.D. Both places offer fall/winter co-ops, so I figured I could take one offer that summer and delay the other offer. My reasoning for this is that I think both could open interesting research opportunities and add interesting skillsets to what I know. So the main problem is that I'm not which would add greater value to my application, if it matters all that much.

I used to work for le ASML. One of the most bloated companies I have ever seen, burns cash like it's nothing.
When I went to Taiwan they put me in a hotel room that costs $880 a night and left me there for 3 weeks. No one checked the price beforehand.
