He's been saying that since the decision, he was the lone dissent. The correct thing to do would have been to reduce the amount as they did not fully meet the criteria. However I strongly suspect the requirements got changed in order to ensure Starlink could not meet them. Nobody else connected a single user because they'd rather continue the grift.

Wrong. The criteria wasn't set to be met until 2025+ Infact, the reasoning was Biden admin believed Starlink wouldn't be able to meet that future timeline, not that they didnt meet the criteria. Criteria itself was years away.

My parents bought a rural home about a decade ago and to no surprise it did not have broadband service. When I brought up how ridiculous this was and that the gov't has given out huge sums to make this happen their response was to shrug and claim that it was too expensive or hard. When I responded that this was somehow not an issue when it came to electricity and telephone they had no answer. Lucky for them a retired AT&T exec moved there and when he learned of the situation he made a few phone calls and suddenly the neighborhood had broadband availability, but only the houses within a certain distance of his.

why even bother with chopsticks and refueling? Just fly starship straight to the depot. You don't buy fuel at the gas station and then bring it back home to fill up your car and you also don't use chopsticks to catch your car after driving around after all.

They can exclude anywhere, there's just no reason not to include them. There's enough precision that the service can be used in the NRQZ. Ironically the reverse argument was used against them, that the service was available in dense urban areas also. These localization arguments are bizarre. It's like they don't understand what a global satellite mega constellation entails or are being willfully retarded.

In theory universal for the horizontally integrated chinese launchers between 3.35m and 5m diameter, so >20 of them.
In practice CASC-SAST's CZ-12 familly (current CZ-12, upcoming Methalox CZ-12A RLV, futue Kerolox CZ-12B) has priority.
Then beyond that most of the companies that are building pads (like Landspace or Space pioneer) in Jiuquan or elsewhere will prefer to use their own rather than a shared one.
This more or less leaves 2 companies that look to durably use these pads: iSpace's Hyperbola 3 (launch NET December from Hainan Commercial pad 2) and Deep Blue Aerospace Nebula 1 (launch NET this summer from Hainan Commercial pad 2) and the larger 5m Nebula 2 (launch NET 2026), both companies are also investing in infrastructure in Hainan.

The cadence will never be met when road closures and 12 hours of messing around with SPMTs are required to move anything to or from the OLM. There are limits to how often hwy 4 can be closed and the process is slow because of the need to transport vertically. A private access road cannot likely be built as it is protected wetland. A tunnel system with an integrated silo erector while expensive and time consuming could solve many of these issues. Elon owns a tunneling company and cost and difficulty are not something to deter SpaceX if it will allow them to meet their objectives. I do not seriously believe SpaceX will do this and my original post was a shitpost, but for the sake of argument I will continue to be the tunnelfag. I am not dutch though.

Ironically the tower at the cape is dealing with even more EPA nonsense than Boca chica and also lawsuits from BO and ULA. Somehow 65 years of space launches isn't enough environmental data. To meet their goals they will likely need to launch from TX and the cape, with the cape handling anything NASA related plus whatever is left over. More sites will be needed.

Once starship gets approved, do you think companies will keep making the "Small" landers that fit in falcon 9 and simply launch them in bulk with other landers. Or do you think they will start scaling up the size to get the most out of how roomy starship is?

Entirely depends on how easy it is to get a ride on starship. If starship is launching multiple times a day like they want (it won't), then sure. But otherwise companies will build for whatever vehicle they can get a ride on.

Officially the plan is to do most of the launching from Florida, but if you think about this and try to synthesis it with their plan to have hundreds or even thousands of Starships then it doesn't make sense. Where would they even store all of those? Where are all the supporting facilities going to go?
The real plan is to scale up operations at Texas where they have room to expand. Saying Texas is just for test launches and vehicle development is merely their foot in the door.

The coating isn't paint, and in any case has the same chemical composition but the way they're applying it has evidently changed. The overall structure of the tiles are the same, fused fibers of quartz. They've also thrown in a few other kinds of fibers, aluminum/etc, which were previously used in some specialized shuttle tiles.
Of course this is from development Starship, and the tiles used on Starship are obviously evolving since they haven't been doing super great. Would have been nice if NASA had figured out something better in the years since Shuttle, but all they evidently managed was small tweaks.

>NASA and SpaceX now are targeting no earlier than Thursday, March 6, for the launch of the agency’s SPHEREx and PUNCH missions. The additional time will allow teams to complete vehicle processing and prelaunch checkouts. The launch window opens at 10:09 p.m. EST (7:09 p.m. PST) from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
>The SPHEREx mission (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer) will improve our understanding of what happened in the first second after the big bang and search for key ingredients for life in our galaxy. The PUNCH mission (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) will observe the Sun’s corona as it transitions into the solar wind.
