anyone know how thick/strong the plastic is on the sheets you can vacuum seal with are? I want get either a few layers or a single strong thick one with bumps and ridges and vacuum seal a fresh board so I can scrape the tail without damage or do board slides way too fast

idk man, i just called up my local vaccuum sealing place and he said i should do like 15 coats of some polymer instead of sealing the board, or clearcoat epoxy resin but that would add weight i think
i just want a thicc ass layer of plastic between the board, and epoxy could work but im not trying to protect the art i just want my shaped board that wont grind down into a normal rounded one from too much use too quickly

Fred Gall was pretty big in the late 90s east coast scene. He had a funny eccentric personality and also did a lot of drugs which made him a bit of a cult personality. Honestly it's fine if you don't know who he is but fuck, just google it or something to research a little bit before you act like you shouldn't have to know about people like that, because if you really care about skateboarding you should. They work as advertised. Very unique, noticeably smoother but slide almost as good as formula 4s on rough asphalt. On something like like a revert where you unweight to slide they don't grab at all where other soft wheels feel gummy. On a full power slide where you stand your weight on it formula 4s would still slide a little further. Nothing weird like they want to grab and throw you to the ground.

It feels like a lot of those east coast brands just died because they couldn't compete with the west coast scene, namely baker. Like when I go to the skatepark now i mostly see the 'normie' skaters riding baker/deathwish boards, the kids riding powell or birdhouse or some shit, and then everyone else is riding anti hero or a local shop deck.

I'm 34 and just bought a skateboard for the first time. Not interested in tricks beyond what would help me get through the streets faster. I just wanted a mode of transportation that's faster than walking, more athletic than a car, less bulky than a bicycle and more socially acceptable for an adult than a kick scooter.
Second day of trying to learn how to ride it, and I gave up. Feel like a retard for even starting. I only actually fell once and it didn't hurt much, but it seems like it's just inherently much less safe than a bicycle or a scooter.
Maybe I'll try again after I finish getting rid of my excess weight (I'm at 100kg now, down from 130kg, aiming for 75kg), I figure keeping my balance will be easier then and falls will be less severe.

There's always this homeless looking manlet older guy hanging around playing the role of the park retard in a way. Asking the kids for cigs and trying to talk to them. Hello guys I want to learn how to skateboard mainly for transportation.
I have this old kryptonic skateboard from years ago that I barely used. I ordered new wheels and bearings. The wheels are 60mm 78a. Is this good enough for riding around comfortably on sidewalks and streets? I'm planning on going a couple miles at most in one trip.
Should I buy new trucks? The ones on the board are metal and the bushings don't seem damaged.
What should I upgrade next on the board?

you’re probably going to want to get some risers so you have a lot of clearance from your wheels and your deck, and you probably don’t “need” new trucks but depending on how wide your board is it would be nice to get some trucks that fit. Can also get different trucks because not all trucks turn the same and if I was getting a board just for cruising around I’d probably want some trucks that have a very surfy feel to them like Ace trucks compared to a truck like Venture Trucks that have a different turning radius

I put on the new wheels and bearings and rode my skateboard properly for the first time today. It was pretty fun and I only busted my ass once.
The stock bearings were terrible and I hadn't even used them outside of standing on the board a few times. The outer and inner race could wiggle a few mm side to side compared to my new bearings which has no play at all. Really glad I got new bearings.
I'm pretty comfortable with pushing now but turning is still a little hard. I think it's probably because I haven't developed enough balance yet. It might also be because of tight trucks and hard bushings. I'm going to get risers so I can loosen my trucks a bit without worrying about wheel bite. Also how big of a difference would new bushings make on crappy trucks?

Warming up, doing old tricks a bit then doing harder ones I didnt until I hurt myself/bail or give up/dont feel it takes about 45min. About 5-15 min rest period of cruising to a different spot then I go right back into it.
2 cycles of this I can manage, 3 is a workout and 4 is gonna make me gass out. Then again my cardio was always shit.
And yeah even doing half an hour every day is gonna make you progress, consistency is key not intensity.

new bushings help a lot with shitty turning, but you have to understand they make a lot of different duros for bushings too and if you want them hard/soft/somewhere in between. BUT if your trucks turn like shit, it's a geometry problem, and new bushings can't really do a lot about that. what brand of trucks are they? post a picture of them with the bushings visible if you can, if not, and they're just no named brand trucks, you probably want to upgrade. Like I said, something like Aces or Independent would feel pretty nice in a cruiser type setup. although since my balance is already locked in, I might be a bit biased.

during the cooftimes i had an in-office skate setup and was basically skating in bursts all day. i would basically do 8 hours of warmup tricks & then skate street spots at night for 2-3 hours, but that could also mean a lot of walking/cruising from spot to spot. if i was just charging at some gap or a rail then yeah, more than 2 hours would be a lot.
it really boils down to how much impact you're taking/how much you need to run.

Session with other people where I'll be sitting down and waiting my turn while three or four people do their thing: anywhere from 5 to 10+ hours. Just did 7 and a half on Saturday, last night was 4 hours because I was late to the park.
I'd say on average I'll skate 15-20 hours a week. I'll try to at the very least get 30 minutes in somehow even if it's raining or I'm tired.

I don't see any branding on the trucks. They're just the stock ones that came with the board. I don't think they're very good quality because the square head of the kingpin was making indents in the base plate where the head meets it. I've barely skated it so the metal quality seems pretty bad.

even eating shit but successfully rolling out of it is like nothing else in skating. the feeling of realizing you didn't just die trying to make it down the hill and you're ok is something else. the way I like to do them is find a nice hill that isn't too steep big long enough to where I can start from a third/half way up the hill and bomb it, and slowly keep going higher and higher until I feel like I hit the limit. those dudes in SF like the GX crew or T-Funk who just seem to charge endless hills are fucked, I could never imagine taking on shit like that after seeing those hills in person. you also have to worry about other people in the road and just general people acting like idiots.

a mediocre shop is basically wallpaper and you can take or leave it, but a good shop will keep your scene alive and means your community has a vested stake in skateboarding.
zoomers might not remember but it was not that long ago when skateboarding was basically illegal everywhere and parks pretty much did not exist, especially if you lived anywhere besides the city.
