~~Projecting Season Edition~~

>Where do I start?
People typically start in the gym and branch off outdoors and find their niche, be it bouldering, trad, sport or a mixture of the above. Some never leave the gym at all. Ultimately it doesn't matter - just get started and enjoy yourself.

>What do you mean by 'projecting season'?
The temperature and humidity are dropping. Those slopers that felt like greasy shit a couple months ago? You're now sticking to them like velcro. You're feeling light, strong and vigorous since you've been abstaining from jerking off to those cute tomboy climbers in the folder you collected from /cg/. The time has come to do the needful sirs and make your ancestors proud by sending that V8 that you couldn't quite manage last year.

>What shoes do I get?
A common question. The simple answer is just get a shoe that fits well, which doesn't cause pain but has little to no dead space. Shoe technology gives definite advantages at the higher levels of the sport (e.g. particular heel shapes for marginal heel hooks, soft shoes for smeary friction-centric climbs or stiffer shoes for standing on marginal edges) but some Sportiva Solutions will not help you scratch up that gym v1 any more than a pair of baggy rentals. Some people (like Heinz Mariacher, the Scarpa designer) suggest softer shoes if you're a beginner since they'll give you plenty of feedback through your feet and build strength in your toes. For sizing, the following guides are very useful:

Storytime.
>climbing at gym
>big crowd around new set as usual
>there's a "comedian" in the mix
>tells people stupid shit as a joke when they're on the wall
>you dabbed
>that finish wasn't long enough
>you're off-route
>should have used more chalk
>autistic regular starts a climb on the new set
>wears naruto t-shirts while being 30+ and overweight
>is otherwise decent, girls don't like him but guys understand he's there for the rocks
>comedian does his shit after the guy falls on a v6
>autistic guy goes quiet
>then he starts to follow the comedian around
>everytime the comedian falls, autistic guy is there
>shouts "should have used more chalk!"
>climbs all the shit the comedian does as well
>when autistic guy gets to the point where the comedian fell, autistic guy glares
>says clearly "Should have used more chalk!" and finishes the route
>comedian tries usual jokes about autistic guy being a fat loser virgin
>autistic guy just gets closer and whispers "should have used more chalk!"
>gets to the point where the comedian realizes the joke is up
>but the autistic guy is now standing behind him
>constantly whispering "should have used more chalk" over and over
>they get in a little shoving match, staff gets involved
>autistic guy gets kicked out for a day for taking it too far
>comedian gets a warning to stop with his jokes
What would you do if someone kept on making jokes at you, /cg/?
