Found a literally perfect potential barrier spot tonight. City just created it.

Question for those that play Skater XL:
When I skate switch, the thumbstick controls are fucking retarded; To switch ollie, I have to flick top DOWN with the stick rather than up like with a normal ollie.
That doesn't make any sense at all to me, top down with the foot should be for a nollie/fakie.
Normal stance tricks are fine. Session also doesn't do that.

Is there any way to change that? Not even an hour into the game yet and so far I really like the default map(s), but really annoyed with that control behavior.

does anyone else find that arranging to skate with people over the age of 30 is impossible? i know there are a bunch of oldfags around here who skate but it seems like in general they all just skate by themselves, whenever i ask them if they want to go and skate it never happens

Adio was the first company I can think of that pulled this ~15 years ago. When's the last time you saw someone skate (or even own) a pair of those?

I don't remember exactly what happened with Adio, but recently with both Lakai and Soultech both of them were sold to private investors. Lakai's outlook was immediately grim as the person who bought it confirmed immediately he not only had no legitimate interest or connection with skating but was also just a dog shit person. Soultech sold last year which was immediately concerning, but the purchasing group were "skaters" and also had brands with snowboarding so people were hopeful that it may work out - Apparently not.
Kind of interesting is a very similar thing happened with Fallen when they came back into the market several years ago, it's some private holding group or something that owns the brand now, but for whatever lucky reason whoever's running the books for Fallen is still investing in the team and tours. Hopefully that holds out for as long as possible, I know some people consider Fallen's image to be dated but I appreciate how they've stayed true to their roots (and that they still have a team, recently putting Billy marks back on. Hope he gets some new footage).

The old, smaller skater owned brands couldn't compete with mega million dollar companies like Nike, so over the years they've all either sold out (and then gradually bled out the team and culture) or essentially just closed up shop.

I been thinking about getting a longboard. I currently have a flip-trick board, and a cruiser. I have also been debating getting a pennyboard, but im not a college kid and they are kinda a meme board IMO. just a casual and too old for the aspirations of ever achieving anything in the skate world.

I'm exactly where you are in terms of landing one. It's so frustrating, cause each session feels like 'this is gonna be the day, I'm gonna just stick it no matter what happens and take the slam if I need to' then first attempt, front foot goes down and sets the tone for the entre session. For me, it's because I keep thinking that after the flick i'm going to bring my front foot back too low/early and interrupt the flip and land awkwardly and die. After my sprain heals fully I'm gonna make sure I land one before April for reasons, but it's a decent goal to aim for. I have a much easier time throwing a big flip than a bigspin... Especially over a gap.
Not that I'm doing either of those things often but between the two it's much easier to allow the board to flip, and control the flip versus trying to keep the board level during the rotation.

atp this is where im currently at. ive got a few tricks on transition, and my ollies/180 variations are quite nice, popped high, leveled etc. i can do those on basically every obstacle on the park. up stuff, down stuff, on hips, banks, etc. but i just cannot fucking flip my board. my flatground is so shit despite it being one of the things i spend the most time on cus i hate sucking at it.

best tricks ive got are probably front pop on flat, front 3 on a hip, back 180 down a 4 stair and back board on flatbars.

during this period about 8 months in, one kid showed up to my local, fresh beginner, couldnt push, etc. he landed his first ollie in a week and about 3-4 months later(now) he's got fucking bs flips on hips, kickflips, heelflips, front pops, he was even bunting nollie flips and actually flipping them. like wtf? am i missing something or doing something wrong? im still more versatile of a skater than him cause he cant do anything on tranny or on ledges/rails, but like i think id rather be that good at flat desu.

He's a bit of an outlier in terms of progression then, most people don't get better that quickly but being young definitely helps. Some people are just "naturally gifted" too.

it's rhythm mostly. don't just flail left to right like you're doing stationary kickturns, lean into them as anon said above. it all comes from the back wheels, so pay attention to those and force them to start moving left with your weight, then with good rhythm change to the right and keep going and it literally takes maybe 4 turns to get a decent speed if you do it right.

you are probably just lightly doing it. put your weight into it more than light taps. the force you use to push off is what builds up your momentum. not simply just lightly taping the front wheels off the ground.
