I think SLS will get the axe. Orion and EUS will be kept around and reintegrated into Falcon Heavy. It's a behemoth of a capsule, but a useful one nonetheless and has gone around the moon successfully at least once. It does have heatshield issues, but those can be solved at a cost far lower than $4Bn/launch for SLS Block 1 with a $2Bn launch tower.
Also, I think SpaceX will inevitably turn Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy over to the US government to manage and operate, while it owns Starship and all successor architectures. This gives USG a dissimilar redundancy for its own flights and missions, independent of Starship, and SpaceX will become another supporting contractor to USG as basically glorified tech support for whenever something goes wrong with an upper or core stage. Even if Starship is flying routinely to Moon and Mars, Falcon 9 and Heavy are still way too godly to shelf, considering there's no equivalent flight hardware across the continental US that can match operational reliability AND flight capability.

too much of a hassle, that would take lots of resources that could be instead focused on improving starship. Although, I can see Musk accepting this alternative if Orion ends up being too difficult to kill. I hope they might just as well go with Starship instead of Falcon Heavy.

Another thing to consider is the Chinese ramping up their numbers later this decade, something that Elon has said whenever that upmass-to-orbit graph has been brought up. I proposed the idea as Musk basically offering a fig leaf to the team overseeing SLS contracts and JPL or whatever at NASA. Where they can continue their project, but on a platform that has the flexibility to launch capsule and additional hardware up at a cadence vastly superior to SLS. NASA's biggest weakness is that the bulk of its budget gets dumped into SLS, which is a fire pit for cash--while its other programs and contracts suffer trying to suck the last drops of milk from a nearly expended tit. It's unhealthy and unsustainable. SLS has to go, but other programs related to it that add onto it or are expected to interact with it in space, shouldn't, if they're useful.

Nah. Just scrap Orion entirely. It'll take a long while for NASA to crew certify ground-launched Starships (not to mention re-entry with crew), so until then just send people up on a Dragon capsule and dock in Earth orbit with (a second) HLS that can be used as a glorified Earth-Moon shuttlebus. Return astronauts to Earth on Dragon via the same HLS shuttlebus.

Falcon would some customization to lift a payload as Fat as Orion. Vulcan wouldn't have any difficulty mounting it, but Orion's 26 tons is right at the edge of what a VC6 is capable of lifting; some stretching to improve performance might be required. New Glenn is overkill, and with a third stage might be able to flat out replace SLS.

What are the top 10 in order best sources of energy for the next 30 years
ChatGPT said:
Here’s a ranking of the top 10 energy sources projected to play crucial roles over the next 30 years, based on sustainability, energy output, and potential to scale globally.
Solar Power: Solar energy is abundant, renewable, and now one of the cheapest sources of energy in many parts of the world. Advances in solar efficiency and storage are set to make it the leading energy source, especially in sun-rich regions.
Wind Power: Onshore and offshore wind farms have become very cost-effective and produce large amounts of electricity with low emissions. Offshore wind in particular is expanding due to consistent wind speeds and large coastal energy demands.
Hydropower: As the largest source of renewable electricity globally, hydropower remains essential, especially in regions with significant river systems. Modernization of existing plants and pumped storage advancements will maintain its importance.
Nuclear Power: Nuclear provides consistent, high-output energy with minimal greenhouse gas emissions. While safety concerns remain, advancements in small modular reactors (SMRs) and fusion technology could greatly increase nuclear’s role as a clean energy source.
Geothermal Energy: Although geographically limited, geothermal offers stable and consistent power output. New technologies could expand geothermal potential to more locations, making it a reliable complement to intermittent renewables like wind and solar.
Battery Storage: Although not a direct energy source, battery storage systems are crucial for making renewable sources viable by storing excess power and managing grid reliability. Advances in lithium-ion, solid-state, and flow batteries will be essential for grid-scale applications.
Bioenergy:
Green Hydrogen:
Ocean Energy:
Advanced Natural Gas with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS):

Satellite cost: Each satellite costs around $500,000 to build. The V2 mini version costs more due to its larger size and capabilities.
Launch cost: Each Falcon 9 launch costs around $67 million.
Annual cost: Around $8.2 billion per year is needed to maintain the full strength of the satellite constellation"

In terms of user hardware, that's enough to buy every household in the US a terminal.
It's the same satellites covering every spot on earth over time, they couldn't and don't cluster above cities.
So you could potentially connect rural areas in their entirety with satellites that are sitting around doing nothing since the constellation as a whole is sized to handle urban bandwidth.

Decades of damage takes a lot of time to recover from and Boeing might not have enough runway for that. Though there's no way to know the probability of it happening, I'm seeing lots of rumors about Boeing being broken up with the aircraft portion being purchased by GE. Not sure if anyone would want the Space division whole but maybe some of the IP and physical assets would be valuable.

>The division operated under the name of General Electric Aircraft Engines (GEAE) until September 2005, and as GE Aviation until July 2022. In July 2022, GE Aviation changed its name to GE Aerospace in a move executives say reflects the engine maker's intention to broaden its focus beyond aircraft engines. In April 2024, GE Aerospace became the only business line of the former General Electric conglomerate, after it had completed the divestiture of GE HealthCare and GE Vernova (its energy businesses division).

If they planned to take 4 years there's the real possibility of the whole thing being scrapped before it's started. If they finished in less than two years, would still have veto power for two more years to prevent changes from being rolled back, even in an absolute worst case scenario. Plus it gives time for the policies to bear fruit before the next presidential election.
It will be interesting to see how much time Elon spends on this. He's already shown himself capable of doing more than any ten men, though, so it will probably be fine.

Vulcan actually does make sense (if it can lost something as heavy as orion, idk).
Vulcan has high c3 and is made for that sort of thing. It would be a nice welfare handout to prevent total SpaceX monopoly. That's a good thing because it means oldspace has a vested interest in not getting Artemis cancelled in the next administration.
Obviously falcon heavy could also probably do it, but it would require a lot of work. They would need to launch with only the side boosters then air light the center core which would take development effort. Vulcan can just fly as is.

Turkey, Indonesia, Jordan, Vietnam, and the Philippines are the five that are worth keeping an eye on. Turkey and Indonesia are both really good at playing off East vs. West to their benefit and they have long-standing interests in space. Jordan is the last undeclared country in the Middle East that's both rich enough and stable enough to care about space travel, and Vietnam and the Philippines are the biggest economies in S.E. Asia that haven't picked a team yet.

Indonesia is impossible to get a read on. They've got strong economic and diplomatic ties to China, but they've successfully rejected any agreements that would make them a Chinese vassal state. Most of their satellite fleet was built in the west and launched by European or American rockets, but they have contracted some payloads and launches from China. They tried to get SpaceX interested in building a Falcon 9 launch site in their country, and while that didn't go anywhere the offer is still open and might be revisited when SpaceX starts proliferating Starship launch complexes. Indonesia signed a 2019 agreement with China on cooperating and the peaceful use of space, but they've also doing a few collaborative projects with the ESA. Honestly, if anyone were going to find a way to join both Artemis and ILRS it'd be these guys.

Other space agencies have less capital to risk and their reputation is on the line with every test and launch, meanwhile SpaceX has managed to turn the equation inside out and now failures are understood as another form of success.

The nature of economy, the infinite types of jobs, varying levels and groupings of complexities, is very unlike any economy on earth before, when for 1000s of years there were like only 1000s of possible jobs, now there are millions or billions,
Coupled with the increase post industrial revolutions, post computer age, post automated factories, post ai, of mechanical efficiency making human operation inefficient or redundant:
The nature of economy now, and in the future is strange.
X amount of people are fired from government jobs, what can they possibly do, go on unemployment, get jobs elsewhere. What when more and more people, less and less jobs available, andor less qualified people for them.
For people who don't have jobs, how do they know what field or job to pursue?

>If you're being this generous (Old gen CZ have quite different S1, even if they use the same tech and engines, also made by 2 different companies) you may as well consider Atlas familly's 174 launch streak since 1993 (the one partial failre in 2007 was salvaged)

Future step is everyone registers there social security number to their verified smart phone account and voting platform to literally have every citizen directly vote on things in real time.
Only problem is not every individual has all relevant info off hand, which is the source of the convention of debates and representative leaders, back to Rome, orators and senators and Cicero. Representatives perform their debates and rhetoric to their local publics in ads and campaign trails to represent them.
It does bring up a lot of questions. What percentage of things should every American citizen have a direct vote on, if the tech exists to make that easily possible.

If you watched it, you will know it goes deeper. Really credible people are testifying before congress, and leaking extraordinary things. There are sightings of incredible technology all the time that defy physics, and also interact and react, even threaten and pursue our pilots, and actively monitor high sensitivity sites (military and nuclear) with great preference. Then there are the sworn claims of recovered said advanced tech, and even some biological specimens (alien bodies). But it seems to be ultra advanced AI drones and not biological, for the most part.
These sightings are real, and they MUST be declassified, not stigmatize reporters both civilian and military, and find out what the hell is going on. We have a right to know, or at least study it, for real this time. This is a REAL danger, if they are here, and fucking with us.

Should there be a proportionality of votes according to amount of taxes paid?
Again, people can be dumb and arbitrary, and pay a lot of taxes, can they vote to use their share of taxes to blow up a big balloon full of confetti and pop it over a field?
It's often said the largest companies and richest avoid taxes, as a kind of payment for them, for providing x amount of jobs, that generate y amount of commerce, and z amount of employees who are taxed.

Laser tech has been making massive strides and showing no signs of stopping. Missiles in space stand 0 chance in the future, especially since atmospheric dispersion is not an issue and you can plink them from a million miles out. Given the limitations of railguns needing regularly replaced heavy as fuck and expensive barrels, as well as the visibility of everything in space, frankly I see the future being pointing lasers at each other until the enemy cooks. Easy to point your laser at a cunt from 999999 miles away while their .01c railguns cant hit shit as you shuck and jive. Whoever has the best heat dispersion and most efficient laser system wins. Sounds mega gay and cringe which is why it's going to happen.

>While the Mars Direct architecture can be initiated solely with the use of chemical propulsion, it is particularly amenable to the introduction of nuclear thermal rockets (NTR) as soon as that technology becomes available. The reason for this is that the Ares launch vehicle can deliver NTR stages directly to a nuclear safe (700 km) orbit, and the architecture involves no LEO infrastructure positioned below this orbit. In addition, the modest size, mass, and per-unit cost of NTR engines makes NTR the advanced propulsion technology of choice for use in the expendable Mars Direct mode. Such expendable utilization would be unthinkable for multi-MW nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) units, for example, the mass of which are typically an order of magnitude larger than NTRs.
>In keeping with the overall approach of the Mars Direct architecture, then, namely the elimination of the need for orbital infrastructure, NTR technology is incorporated into the plan simply as a third stage to the Ares launch vehicle. Such a configuration is shown in Fig. 10. The NTR stage has a specific impulse of 900s, a power of 900 MWth, and a thrust of 45,000 lb. With the addition of this stage the Ares can throw 70 metric tons on to a minimum energy trans-Mars injection trajectory (C3=15), an increase of about 50% over the 47 metric ton TMI all-chemical Ares baseline.
>The performance of the NTR augmented Ares is limited by the fact that the NTR must be fired from LEO, and the baseline 2 stage Ares vehicle is not optimized for LEO delivery, as with 250,000 lb thrust its second stage is under powered. (The 250 klb thrust is optimized for direct trans-Mars injection.) If the thrust of the second stage is increased, the LEO delivery capability can be increased, and the TMI throw also increased accordingly.

The official figure getting thrown around is 5 years and the oldest ones on station are actually 5 years old (give or take a few days).
The lower they fly the pricier station keeping is, other comsats (you're thinking of GEO) only compensate for drift, starlinks have to overcome drag on top of that and orbit raising and lower to phase into the correct plane after launch.
Which is all besides the point since their development cycles are shorter than their on orbit lifetime. Laser interconnects were worked in as an upgrade, then direct to cell and after starship starts flying full sized ones, other customers will want hosted payloads so they'll keep getting replaced as they fall victim to scope creep.

Tradeoff will be worse aerodynamics during initial stage of launch in thick atmo but improving superheavy will counter this. Yeah. eseffgee gonna hate it.
Has there been any legit consideration of that? You think if so, it will roll out over successive flights losing thinness each time, to determine the merits of shape? Or may consensus be now no change really is intended or needed?

they arent focused on the payload volume or mass reduction right now so havent given it much thought. if the nose was a dome then the forward flaps wouldnt have even had the burnthrough on the v1 ships.
moving the flaps backward is a silly workaround which solves one problem but makes it even harder to have a payload bay door on that curved nose surface.
once they get serious about integrating a payload bay door then they will suddenly have the genius idea to make the ship dome topped so the door can have hinges on a straight surface like shuttle. they will also be able to move the forward flaps back to where they were on the v1 ships.

>Outline of the experiment [Liquid Propellant Rotation Detonation Engine System Flight demonstration experiment]
>Based on the success of the space demonstration of the Detonation Engine System (DES)* on the observation rocket S-520-31, the objective is to develop a rotating detonation engine system (DES2) using liquid fuel (ethanol) and oxidant (liquefied nitrous oxide), and to actually operate it in space and evaluate its propulsion performance.Large-capacity data (digital images) acquired during the operation of DES2 is collected by the onboard inflatable data recovery system (RATS2).

Is it feasible (what are the coming up desired planet/moon imaging missions?) To have video camera drones (100 to 1000 or so) be self controlled and send back video feed?
Or self controlled drones would be very improbable, and sending back stream of video feed from 1000 drones would be improbable?
The mother ship fly by'er, opens the hatch, drops her babes, they swarm in all directions: each of them sends 2 streams of audio visual feed for playing the odds redunancy, 1 to the mother ship and 1 feed to Earth or earth satellites.

>Summary of LEO thermal environment
>Solar Radiation: 429.2 BTU/hr/ft^2/degF
>Earth's IR lllumination: 70.2 BTU/hr/ft^2/degF
>Earth's IR Eclipse: 35.1 BTU/hr/ft^2/degF
According to this being in low orbit ranges from at worst 16% higher flux and at best 91% lower flux than being in deep space or HEO, in permanent sunlight, at Earth's altitude.
If earth's emitted power were anywhere near the sun's even for a horizon to horizon coverage it wouldn't god damn be so cold at night would it.

The technology is there to make 1000 Ingenuity’s, we just dont have the infrastructure for all that data. The DSN is already overloaded and adding 1000 video feeds that are constantly running with the newest specs would mean that almost none of the data youre getting can come back. Doing this would require massive upgrades and overhauls to the current network which nobody wants to pay for until SpaceX gets everything ready for the colonization process at which point you can just have people explore or with ground drones instead. Also reconnaisance orbiters get all the important data you want requiring far less anyways. Project overall would require massive upgrades to data transfer (expensive), construction of bleeding edge copters perfectly designed for Mars that wouldnt last very long like rovers do, and will be unneeded within a short time period. Its not the most expensive or unfeasible process, but still redundant and improbable so I’ll rate it a 50,000. Im assuming this is for Mars, different for other planets.

Shut the fuck up.
That shit flies with such surgical precision never beheld by man you can put its flight plan into your phone and it'll spit out the 20 meter window on the ground where you need to park to see it transit the moon. You have that shit printed out on a timeline down to the second. The callouts happen every, single, time. At exactly, the same, time. And you can't after 300 times doing this shit get clued in as to when you need to shut the cunting fuck up and let the mission control audio come through. Her voice is like flossing my cranium ear through ear with barbed wire.
I am tired of hearing vaguely factual variations of what max q means while mission control interrupts you to call out max q, every, single, flight, cunt. Shut the fuck up and let me hear the rocket. At least the dude has the presence to shut the fuck up when there isn't anything to say.
Early SpaceX youtube where they had a hosted webcast and a technical webcast were the golden age.
This company can pluck a flying grain silo out of midair but cannot beat 2010 era justin tv production quality it is beyond the pale.
Put the rocket on the screen and mic so i can hear the turbines, and a cam in the lox tank like the good old days and play classical over the coast and lock the latina out of mission control and I'll be eternally grateful. You cunts

A new city needs to be built, so all the hard to find job laborers, all the un and under employed, all the anxious and uncertainy, all those who play video games 9 hours a day but feel they might not actually want to, all the meek and downtrodden and weary or whatever it is masses, need a new start, to be a part of the welcoming construction of a burgeoning haven, to see in what way they may be able to help. Of course that's a bit outlandish, only the absolute top of the shelf strongest and smartest are able and needed to build cities, anything less would be slow, dangerous, and in the way, so I suppose it would be partly for them once completed. But who knows.
I've in passing mentioned a disruptive for many lucrative for many idea, and the power of its possible impact is scary, in relation to the lack of infinite freedom earth being distantly akin to a prison, and knowing how ethnicities operate in prison, and knowing that America is a microcosm of the world.

Denial. He says a Trump/Musk regime will HELP SLS.
If he's right and they somehow get it launching 5x a year for 300mil a launchthen it wont be bad for what it is, but I don't see it.

How will trump and musk help sls? At the rate it's going artemis 2 won't launch before 2027 and that'll probably be uncrewed because of orions heat shield issues. Theres jist no way trump gets boots on the moon before his term is up if he sticks with sls and he can't get the funds to do something faster without canceling it.
