🧵 IQ math
Anonymous at Sun, 16 Mar 2025 17:51:27 UTC No. 16620980
If I donate a couple hundred dollars to charity to iodize salt for people in developing countries will I have "given away" a few hundred extra IQ points in total?
>Estimates for the cost to give access to adequately iodized salt for one person are in the range of $0.05-$0.10 per year.
>Based on the available experimental evidence, we estimate that iodine supplementation of mild-to-moderately deficient children increases their IQ by approximately three points.Givewell also suggests that this effect is likely to be even greater where iodine deficiency is more severe, but there is not yet sufficient evidence to be certain of this. Similarly, GiveWell reports that two meta-analyses (Angermayr and Clar 2004 and Taylor et al 2013) identified 6 RCTs evaluating the effect of iodine supplementation of children on their mental function, and generally found significant positive effects. This increase in mental function is likely to have positive effects on the children’s life outcomes.
30 years of iodine supplementation for one person is no more than 3$. That's there entire childhood and then some.
3$ on average gives someone else 3 IQ points
So if I donate 400$ I've given away 400 IQ points?
But those numbers might be somewhat generous as not everyone who receives iodized salt will have been significantly defecient in iodine so not everyone who receives idolized salt will receive a few extra IQ points
Maybe I should multiply it by three or by ten so it's 1200$ for 120 IQ points or 600$ for 200 IQ points. Not sure how to figure that part out but I just started reading research on them

I've always been told that we use garbage concrete to make our sidewalks and streets because good quality stuff is to unfeasibly expensive, but what's stopping us from grabbing some Pozzolana from the nearest volcano putting it in the mixture and calling it a day?

I’d like to discuss something with you. I understand the highly skeptical nature of this board, so I’ll start humbly by saying I’m not a genius or even a degree holder. I have however done my research (to the full extent of my capability)
The subject is the use of fossil fuels and climate change.
I didn’t believe in humans potential role in climate change, or any “fossil fuels are bad mkay” arguments, until a monkey level retard thought occurred to me: if we keep taking our fossil fuels from the ground, how is the earth not shrinking? Even in small amounts it seems like we pull it out of the ground and then burn it into the atmosphere, what about the lost mass?
Turns out the mass gets replaced when we extract oil.
>replaced with what?
Water from the ocean.
This is why sea levels are not rising at any alarming rate despite the climate freaks screeching about it nonstop.
The glaciers are really melting, and the excess water is being absorbed to replace the volume of oil we extract (5 billion tons/year)
This could have negative impacts on earths surface temperature, as the ground becomes more porous and less insulated.

What do I do when I get stuck in the problem in research?
Currently the weapons in my armoury are
>identify assumptions that can be tested
>take a step back and look at the whole picture
>break the problem into subproblems
>find similar problems and see if the techniques apply
>define inputs / outputs and expected outcomes more clearly
>work on other problems and see if there's any insight to adapt to the original problem
>explain to someone else and seek feedback
>find evidence this problem is unsolvable
Is there anything else I'm not aware of?

I have 2 sets of unit vectors and I want to find the optimal rotation matrix from A to B. BUT keep in mind the optimal rotation:
- will make sure that each colour is only closest to its own colour
- the vectors are unit vectors, but NOT necessarily orthonormal
- only the rotation is needed, not scale or reflection
🧵 antimatter explains even biomolecules!
Anonymous at Sun, 16 Mar 2025 06:35:35 UTC No. 16620505
the SAME FORCE which makes one type of biomolecules in nature always be left handed (amino acids are L) and sugar molecules to be right handed, causes all the galaxies in universe to rotate almost always in clockwise direction when laws of probability would state it is 50/50 to be in clockwise or counter clockwise direction
it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE to create in a chemistry lab unnatural amino acids which are R instead of L, they just wouldnt appear in the nature, even so the body can process them and the end product will destroy the R form eventually
what is the question of antimatter then? seems to be that universe had to decide between left and right (matter or antimatter) which are just mirror images of each other
and matter won
because of this galaxies turn into one direction and amino acids (a microcosmos inside a human being as you could say) are on a certain form as well
in a antimatter world, all these things that bind galaxies together and matter (atoms) together, rotations would be reversed from what it is now
article which mentions galaxies being in clockwise rotation:

🧵 Medical Analysis of voluntary painless death
Anonymous at Sun, 16 Mar 2025 03:43:30 UTC No. 16620318
Hi, I am voluntarily planning a painless death due to incurable pain, with the help of IV and gas. I ask experts to evaluate my thoughts and procedure for a simple procedure, thank you!
Medications used: thiopental 5g, Bupivacaine anesthetic, Dexmedetomidine or diazepam , food grade nitrogen, pure potassium chloride, Saline solution with glucose 5% 100ml (Soft pack)
Tools used: 18g Blood Transfusion system,
18g catheter, 10ml syringe, Oxygen mask with bag, Stretchy sports adhesive tape, Super glue, Cotton wool, Medical hot water bottle for cold hands, knife or scalpel
And log of movement strait from my notes:
Anaesthesia drop
Catheter (to ventilate if it fills with blood) and if there is a bruise afterwards
For 1 hour Dexmedetomidine 1ml
2-3 ml in each thiopental
Wrap a stretched ribbon around the package
Make sure the length touches the ground
Attach the package to the tree
Attach the dropper to the package and wait for the system to fill up
Pour thiopental into the IV drip !Close the cap!
Fasten it to the same height level so that it does not leak out
Disconnect the dropper from the package
80 ml in 30 g of potassium, add potassium by stirring a little (less sediment when oversaturated)
Put it back in the bag
Attach the system and lift the spout above the package
20 ml of anesthetic into the catheter for 2 m
Wait for 5m
Turn on nitrogen
Lie down
Put on a mask
Attach the system to the catheter
I am open to criticism and correction of actions, I plan to go into deep anesthesia 0.30 - 1m to 8m and die from cardiac arrest or lack of oxygen
Thank you for you
🧵 It’s settled science. Humans have dozens of biological sexes

This was released by APA is response to Trump’s EO claiming falsely that there are only two sexes.
"The assertion that only two sexes exist is not scientifically accurate."
APA used the scientific method to conclude this. The science is now settled.

now that SpaceX has perfected their booster can't payloads be designed to take advantage of it such as a 9m diameter (x-ray, visible light, infra red, etc) telescope weighing over 100 tons that can be placed in space by said booster and a modified Falcon 9 second stage or a Centaur V? Should be especially easy to mate the two as the disposable staging ring can be modified to adapt to the "not a Starship" 2nd stage.
