what are you guys opinions on names in the videos? lots of people whining about the new nike vid not having names but they put all the names in order of appearance in the video description. i think it's fine desu and having names in the video would distract from the skating when theres a different person every 5 seconds. I think names title cards are good when it's a part that is at least 3-5mins long like older full length vids but not for these montages with 50+ people.

Agreed with everything you said. There was so many skaters, some of them having really short clips. It makes sense in this case.

NTA but I don't think you should be skating a 15" wheelbase unless you only skate transition or vert. You are gonna have a hard time flipping your board at that wheelbase.

Take a look at these standard shapes for BBS/Generator which is what most skate shops use for shop boards. I'm on my second stack of G838 and I'm 6'2 170lbs. I think my next stack I want to try the G85S because its and 8.5 with a shorter wheelbase. I think it would help with my treflips.

The biggest thing about e’S is that they only have sti energy foam insoles, not gel like the old days with pro shoes. They recently rereleased the Muska for a short while, they basically did go out of business and I think the 9 Club and Kelly Hart revived them. All in all they make solid shoes, they just need to be a bit lower priced and once they gain more market share then innovate with insole and skate tech. Not sure about vulcs, I never skate them or thin shoes.

Why do people do kickflips? Is it just becsuse they think it looks cool or does it have a practical purpose? Like does it let the skateboard stay in the air farther/longer/higher to clear bigger gaps/jumps or help it go in a straight line or something? Or is it just a fancy trick nothing more?

I think you want 14.5-14.75". Your truck brand will effect wheel base and things like fingers of flat make a board feel longer/bigger too. I'd be more concerned with width/length. All a longer wheel base did for me is make landing bolts not cause my knees to hurt/bend inwards as much, smaller makes tricks easier. I assume at some point in your skate journey you'll want to at least try 14.25" etc. it seems like a sweet spot.
Check out Leon Paxton on YouTube. He is a taller guy who rides lots of different big boards, might inspire you.

Nike's SB division is like a double edged sword because on one hand, its nice to see a handful of skilled skaters under their payroll but at the same time, you can't let go of this feeling that it doesn't feel "real" because its a big corporation, even though the team was spearheaded by some legends to run the show when they first launched it to have skaters think they are "legit".

Also, the whole SB dunk hype among hypebeasts. I remember snatching like 6 pairs at a nike outlet for like $20 bucks each because nobody gave a shit about those back then. Now its fucking impossible to find them because everyone wants to make a profit off those (even skate shop employees who steal some of their inventories to flip them on the market for a quick buck.) It sucks because its one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever skated in, plus they are quite durable so there's that.

>>207548
I like having name titles, even if they are super quick (say 3 - 5 seconds long) because I can't keep up with all these niggas, at least not like I used to back then. In fact, they could make use of YT's timestamps if their editors are too lazy/want to shave 5 seconds off their rendering queue.

A removable shoe insert, otherwise known as a foot orthosis, insole or inner sole, accomplishes many purposes, including daily wear comfort, height enhancement, plantar fasciitis treatment, arch support, foot and joint pain relief from arthritis, overuse, injuries, leg length discrepancy, and other causes such as orthopedic correction and athletic performance.

Medical use of foot orthoses has been criticized as lacking evidence of benefit, and practice is very inconsistent: reputed podiatrists prescribe completely different orthoses for a single patient.[1][2][3] Further, effect of a given design of orthosis varies significantly by patient,[4] and standard practice to personalize prescription is not available.[5] However, evidence is mixed: patients often report at least short-term improvements in comfort, and other studies have found effectiveness.[6]

Footprint and Remind are 100% marketing and not needed, unless the insoles that come in your shoes are trash (in which case you should probably look for a better shoe brand).
Vans, Converse, Fallen, Etnies, Emerica, Last Resort, etc etc all have insoles that are fine and not worth swapping out.

If you make the mistake of buying Footprints you'll know as soon as the packaging comes in that you fucked up. It's such blatant mass produced low quality crap it isn't even funny.

arent FPs like 35 dollars too? total marketing scam. Ill swap out the insoles in a pair of etnies or emericas for some 5 - 15 dollar dr scholls or store brand equivalent and makes a world of a difference personally. allows me to wear my skate shoes as work sneakers too without any discomfort standing/walking in them all day. but since I have like 5 pairs of shoes and switch it up everyday my everyday leg/feet fatigue has been improved as opposed to wearing the same 1 or 2 pairs all week.

side story: one of the dudes who worked in the skate shop was a big boy and he would actually STACK his insoles, like put dr scholls on top of the regular insoles instead of removing them and he would talk about needing another insole on top of that and when I told him your only supposed to have one and take out the stock one he was like "nahhh that sounds crazy." whatever tho dude had a mean kickflip and a handful of switch tricks, but he switched to bmx because he kept snapping a the tail of a board at least once a week, homie needed to learn to land bolts.

yea that's pretty much a cruiser board. also the board doesn't need to be designed for tricks. it could be smaller than a normal skateboard... like a 7.25 or something so it's easier to carry around. it's basically the OPPOSITE of a longboard ;)

pretty sure soft wheels mess up every grind/slide trick except boardslide variations, so I'd only get a normal board with super soft wheels if I loved flatground and manuals and lived in a crusty area or skated dirtbike spots.

In the city it just looks like someone wants to cruise to work while looking like they can ollie, I can imagine someone cool making it work though.

Most dedicated cruisers are fine, even premade. You can work with the soft wheels to get back to the roots of skating and just try something new.

I never had it checked by a doctor so can't confirm (which is ironic because I worked at a hospital at the time), but I'm pretty sure I tore a ligament in my ankle when I was learning 5050s on flat bars.
I was coming off the end of the rail and my front foot drifted off the board but my back foot stayed on, I rolled my front foot and then immediately ran over it with all my weight because I still had weight and momentum on the board.

My ankle was completely black/blue within a couple hours, had a bad limp for a couple weeks and it took a few years before I was able to throw certain tricks again - 360 flips in particular caused me pain for awhile afterwards, I think because of how the scoop/flick loads up the ankle.

Assuming you're not riding low trucks, no riser.
Bones are over rated but Reds are still fine. Bronson G2 or G3 would also be good. Literally any bearing at your local skate shop or that you find on an online skate supply will be fine.

Speed differences between any $15 bearing and a $45 bearing, or even $70 bearing will normally be fairly negligible once they're broken in. From there maintenance will mostly be the determining factor for what keeps them rolling well. It's silly when people dump $60 on some "high end" bearing but then never clean them.
And for the love of God don't pop the shields off on them. No, the balls are not going to crunch up and "spit out" debris, it's just going to massively accelerate how the bearing degrades and prevents you from properly oiling them.

Their hats are going for 75 fucking dollars. The idiot shop owner is always crying because nobody buys the expensive clothes and he goes and does this lmfao

Bro lmao I'm not American so I don't know how prices are there but a hat should be 10-20 bucks. How does a literal hat cost 75? Is it genuine leather or what? Don't tell me it's your average gay stoner 4 panel cap.

That's exactly what it is. It's just a regular black baseball cap, it said Hardbody across in the front. That's all.

there are already enough lame companies from NYC. hardbody is such a nothing brand, only contributing to the over saturation of unnecessary and excess board companies. another one similar is CARPET and their gay ass $90 dollar "hand painted" decks ....charging boutique prices for skate shit lmfao

Anonymous No. 209297

and who even skates for hardbody? durao and hjalte? i thought hjalte was on polar.... this is literally just another lame cool guy brand that doesn't even pay actual skaters, thats why their hats are $75.

Those two own it iirc. They just put out a video and other than Durao's part it was kind of hard to watch. His part wasn't as good as his Quickstrike part either. Its also full of nobodies of questionable skill

i actually like hjalte Dancer brand, the corduroy pants look nice they need to bring them back. they also have some neat graphic tees so it's kinda weird they made an entire separate brand when he already has that one that is also better. i tried watching that vid but the filming was too ass and the music was whack. i can appreciate SD footy, it's charming when done right but this brand is trying to hard to coast on italicize font. which is also dumb as hell, like they seriously can't be arsed to curate some kind of art for their brands image....all the have is just a boring font wow

I haven't skated since I was probably 8 years old since I was too scared of hurting myself especially hitting my head
I'm 19 now but my dog died last night and I'm moving out next week for some reason I just can't stop thinking about getting back into skating, I don't really get any exercise anyways
Maybe this is just another autistic interest or something but idk, now my main concern is having time for it if I did go back and re learn how to skate
Idk life is crazy

Why did street skating explode in late 1980s and 1990s?
Besides obvious Ollie/kicklip invention.
Was pavement shit in the 1960s-1970s and early 80s?

Was there some sort of road/sidewalk renovation in Los Angeles during that time? I’m not that familiar with the history. Genuinely curious.

I’m getting back into it but I’m super tall and have trouble balancing with my size 14 feet. I have a fear of smashing my head too even with a helmet it’s scary.
I don’t exercise anymore and it’s kicking my butt from riding and just doing moving ollies.

skateboarding was seen as a passing fad, and skateparks were being closed down or destroyed. Skaters adapted to skating the urban environment instead and street skating took over.

Anonymous No. 209373

>>209367
i guess im lucky that im pretty short for a guy 5'6-5'7 so i'll basically be like a tree stump that can balance infinitely
maybe you just need to skate more and just have like a healthier lifestyle idk if youre old or something but idk maybe you should get back into exercising more if you're getting tired just from cruising around

but yah idk how to cure the fear of hitting your head i guess its good to have it as a fear tho cause otherwise you might be too careless and kill yourself on a sidewalk

I’ve only recently been to a street park and jumping around tires me out. Body was sore for days. I’m going to spend more time just riding the board even tho I need a 9” wide deck. Because I saw Ron Whaley is close to my height and he uses a wide board.

Tall anon here, so I don't need anything wider than 8.5", I got a pair of skate shoes and they help with balancing, I changed my bushings to bones hardcore, the grimple stix spitfire wheels are wider than my old wheels and probably help with balance too. My big issue is squatting tires me out, when I do boneless the board doesn't snap in half so I'm not that heavy. I hear a click coming from my trucks, the pivot cup on my trucks looks fine and they are not tight. I learned to stop pushing mongo today too.

So imo, skate series are actually meh in a sense that these games make me feel like
>why am I even playing this instead of skating outside?
Tony Hawks games are much better because they show off some insane vert shit at high speeds that is hard to pull off in real life.
If skate 3 can motivate you to learn laser flips, tony hawk can motivate you to at least try to do a 900 or get some big airs in a vert ramp, imo these things are a lot cooler than laser flips on flatground

he probably wedged his finger into a cove (a sunken section of the workpiece) because he was applying pressure to the sandpaper directly with his finger - a bad practice with any power tool, which the power drill operator in the video seems to be intentionally avoiding
