People prefer to fly from their starting airport direct to their destination if possible, and it's very hard to fill a plane with as many seats as an A380 or Boeing 747, and four-engine jets are expensive to operate. You get better seat-mileage out of twins flying direct flights, and airlines are sensitive to fuel prices.

Planes are getting bigger, just not quite in the way you think. Take a look at the A320neo family orders versus the original A320 family, almost no airline ordered the A319neo, but a ton of orders for the 320neo, and the most for the 321neo. The 747 and A380 were decades ahead of their time, yes part of their downfall is that people valued direct flights over indirect hub/spoke connections, but now even those indirect flights are getting busier, and airlines like AA and United have started up-gauging their fleets, United especially moving from the 787-8 to the larger 787-10
https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2024/American-Airlines-places-orders-for-Airbus-Boeing-and-Embraer-aircraft-FLT-03/default.aspx
>As part of the Boeing order, American has upgauged 30 existing 737 MAX 8 orders to 737 MAX 10 aircraft.
>American is focused on bringing larger, dual-class regional aircraft into its fleet, which will continue to drive connectivity from smaller markets to the rest of the airlineโ€™s global network. The airline expects to retire all of its 50-seat single-class regional jets by the end of the decade and will continue to serve small and medium-size markets with larger regional jets.
https://apnews.com/article/united-airlines-orders-boeing-airbus-airplane-b650ef0da3ba9af0a8f2f9ec4fdc904f
>The airplanes will be larger than those United is replacing. The Chicago-based company said that in 2019 it averaged 104 seats per North American departure. By 2027, United anticipates the figure climbing more than 40% to more than 145 seats.

And while the A380 may be out of production, airlines that kept theirs are doing it for the long-haul, BA announced that they're overhauling their A380 fleet which means they'll be flying for another good 20 years, and who knows, by then routes might be so crowded that Airbus has to bring it back into production, or develop a successor.

aren't most airports unprepared for large aircraft anyway? I mean, from what I've heard, they required extended landing strip, and probably hardened ones as well, because large planes can destroy them...

Unprepared for large aircraft like the A380? Yeah, that requires special gates, however every airline up-gauging their long-haul fleet to either the 777X or A350-1000 won't be an issue because they're still in the same ICAO gate size category (Code E), in fact, any gate that can fit a 787-8 (typically 242 passengers) can fit a 777X-9 (typically 395 passengers). Same goes for a narrow-body, a gate made for a 737-700 (128 passengers 2-class, Code C) will fit an A321neo (206 passengers 2-class).

(We think) Venus does that because its crust is so hot it's too malleable to support plate tectonics. Lack of plate tectonics allows heat from radioactive decay to build up until a catastrophic mega eruption floods a huge portion of the surface. Cooling Venus' surface will likewise cool the crust & increase its brittleness. Toss in some active engineering, like drilling boreholes to drop water into to quench the deeper rock layers, and using nukes to chop the crust into "plates", and it may be possible to start plate tectonics there.
If it isn't, we can still break the catastrophic resurfacing cycle by more manually removing heat, which would be done via deep boreholes and water heat transport to the surface. Hundreds of millions of years between events is a lot of time to build.

Most of the time itโ€™s โ€˜what you see is what you getโ€™. Most modern spacecrafts utilize running lights, similar to how the ISS is illuminated although not as brightโ€”with most sunlight supplied via natural sunlight. Ancillary direct lights are usually thrown in to illuminate control panels/workspace areas. They (by which I mean DOD and NASA) will aggressively steer contracts to JPL, ULA and BO under the guise of "providing for alternatives". The lack of progress will make a mockery out of the scheme. JPL will not recover during the next four years as literally all of its prospective postdocs have scattered to the winds.

Harris' sum total of contributions to the NSC are facilitating its continued operation, which mostly operated as a forum for the less capitalized space industry top get the ear of policymakers (e.g. earth science). If you want to watch how awful she is as a public speaker, watch her NSC speech here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk_NnaAQcrg

Elon is moving his businesses out of California, her home state, over its policies. As he will no longer be a taxpayer there, his interests will be represented in Congress by other states, mainly Texas. This will likely remove any incentive Harris would have to assist SpaceX, as she is a creature of the political machine in California. NASA is also focusing on California, and is building its first new research center in decades out at Moffett Field: https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaeltnietzel/2023/10/17/university-of-california-berkeley-and-nasa-to-build-new-2-billion-space-research-center/. The timing of SpaceX's move is going to cast a shadow over the future of the center, which may end up being canceled or reduced depending on a congressional whim before its completion.

Silver/precious metals bros are going to win. Paper money situation is getting pretty bad globally, yen is the main fucked one going goodbye soon and once a few start to go, trust goes too. Nations won't want to exchange toilet paper for tangible goods in the not too distant future. Only options are bitcoin for a decentralised no counter party risk settlement or some kind of thoroughly audited precious metal reserve backed currency. Given the amount of smart cunts in here, it's embarrassing how many people still put stock in printed toilet paper fiat war money. Guess there is still a lot of american exceptionalism rhetoric going around, lol lmao. Imagine trusting the currency of the government that gives unlimited wet ink fresh off the printer bills to boing and ULA. Anyone with a decent IQ can see the writing on wall, which is why JP Morgan has the single largest physical silver reserve and why countries around the world are scooping gold as fast as possible without annihilating the market.
