🧵 Unusual Techniques Seen in MMA

Anonymous No. 214171

I'll start

>Scorpion Rib Crush

This is a variant of do-jime (banned judo technique but legal in BJJ and MMA) where you have an opponent in closed guard and squeeze your knees on their floating ribs.

Here's a video of a WMMA fighter using it to win in Bellator:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Pel1w2tZYLA

Very hit-or-miss but can either
>do nothing (if they have a strong core)
>break ribs
>fuck up organs (supposedly)

You can hear the opponent yell out and tap immediately

Post more clips of unusual/banned judo/bjj/karate/etc techniques being applied successfully in MMA

🧵 Yağlı güreş and Bökh traditional workouts?

Are there any books, or just papers or articles etc, about the basic workout, emblematic calisthenics \workout item\ regimen of workout, of turkish "oil wrestlers", and mongolian-wrestling?
Pic related is a book about the hindu pushup and squat workout, the Maces and Stone ring used by Kushti grapplers, etc. it talks about religion and anthropology and semen retention (BASED) but a smart person could reconstruct a kushti wrestling regimen reading it.

Zak Defeats Onosato to win Meiji Jingu Autumn Grand Festival Sumo Title
https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/sumo/20241016-216802/
The sport of sumo, which holds such an eminent place in traditional Japanese culture, also has a strong connection to Shintoism.

On the day before the start of a grand tournament, the head referee, dressed in the robes of a Shinto priest, conducts a Shinto ritual. The yokozuna performs his entrance ceremony wearing a thick, braided rope around his waist that resembles the sacred “shimenawa” rope displayed during the New Year holidays and on other occasions.

Against such a historic background, ritual matches known as “hono sumo” are held nationwide in cooperation with major shrines.

Tokyo’s Meiji Jingu shrine has a particularly deep relationship with the Japan Sumo Association. When a wrestler achieves promotion to the elite rank of yokozuna, it is Meiji Jingu where a special ceremony is held to mark the occasion. Later, the new yokozuna famously performs his first ring-entering ceremony in the plaza in front of the shrine’s main hall.

Every year after the Autumn Grand Tournament, an event called the “All-Japan Sumo Wrestlers Competition” is held at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan in celebration of the Meiji Jingu Autumn Grand Festival. The event has a long history, earning the title of sumo’s oldest tournament in Japan.

🧵 /cg/ - Climbing General

Anonymous No. 213492

~~Skateboarding Edition~~

>Where do I start?
People typically start in the gym and branch off outdoors and find their niche, be it bouldering, trad, sport or a mixture of the above. Some never leave the gym at all. Ultimately it doesn't matter - just get started and enjoy yourself.

>How fit do I have to be to start? Do I have to be able to do x amount of pull-ups?
Being light, strong and flexible helps at the higher levels but climbing is open to almost anyone and is fairly intuitive to most. Even if your body is feeble and weak now, you will develop strength over time by virtue of just climbing. Climbing is a holistic sport and success often hinges upon many factors, not just strength and power, but having these qualities definitely helps when you breach into the higher grades.

>What shoes do I buy?
If you're starting out in the gym, don't worry too much: get some snug shoes without dead space that don't cause you lasting pain. Some people (such as the famed shoe designer Heinz Mariacher) recommend wearing soft shoes when you're starting out -- this makes sense since your footwork will probably suck and the increased feedback will pay dividends over time. You really don't need fancy expensive shoes when you're starting out, but certain shoe properties help send harder problems (e.g. stiff shoes for standing on tiny granite edges or soft shoes for sandstone/gritstone smears).

Is Muay Thai the best striking martial art? When it comes to grappling, there's a legitimate debate to be had between judo vs bjj vs wrestling. I, myself lean on some kind of wrestling but I can see the argument for judo/bjj. When it comes to striking, muay thai/dutch kickboxing seems to be clearly superior to say karate/taekwondo/kick boxing/ boxing, either due to more realistic training or better techniques.
