Claim: [math] 0.999_{\dots} \neq 1[/math]

Proof: We use induction. The base case is trivial: [math] 0.9 \neq 1[/math]. Next we introduce the notation that [math]0.9_n = \underbrace{0.9999999}_{n-\text{many nines}}[/math] is the decimal with n-many 9s.

Now the inductive step: we assume [math]0.9_n \neq 1[/math]. Then trivially [math]0.9_{n+1} \neq 1 [/math]. It might help to notice that [math] 1 - 0.9_{n+1} \neq 0[/math].

This implies that [math]0.9_n \neq 1 \qquad \forall n\in \mathbb{N}[/math]

Finally, we define [math] 0.999_{\dots} := \lim_{n\to\infty} 0.9_n[/math].

[math]\therefore 0.999_{\dots} \neq 1 \qquad \square [/math]

🧡 AI in the image of ourselves

Anonymous No. 16184364

When and why did we tie "being alive" to "being human" in the discussion surrounding AI?
If a hypothetical AI has no empathy, no ability of original thought by which to create art it is deemed "lesser", not human, not alive and in essence a failure.

When, or maybe a better question is how, will we remove the constraints of humanness from AI development?.

We assume the natural numbers are infinite. If we introduce a greater infinity, to count the natural numbers, we can assume in the same way that they are counted. However, to recite all the natural numbers in 'finite time' is impossible.

Is there any way to get Geany to show a popup with all the members/methods of `subprocess`?

The problem with old and current science is that you're not asking β€œwhy” enough and reflecting on it. You're accepting and assuming. Current science is doomed because it's wrong. It has no future. The only future is new science. Science is understanding, not acceptance. If you actually scrutinize yourself and see everything you've just accepted and assumed, it may be quite shocking.

🧡 Why is there only one path for mathematics?

Do I have to go to graduate school?
>inb4 blog post
this is very serious and relating to the infrastructure of math and science and how institutionalized academia has devoured the brain
I was given an offer to a few places but honestly I just want to do my own thing I really don't care about exams and homework anymore and especially I am against curriculum which is probably the most evil part of university.
Honestly my best moments were when I just talked to peers and professors about what we were doing and interested in at the time. They would share some wisdom and points of interest suggesting some books and sections and papers.
I know it all sounds silly coming from an undergrad, but I'm considered among the exceptional students. However, over time I feel totally hollowed out. I always ended up so busy worrying feeling stressed and it all just seems so artificial and pointless, like I was killing myself.
I feel like the mind is supposed to be like a wolf but I've for some reason turned mine into a chihuahua.

why must the spin statistics theorem be true?

my understanding is extremely naive and rudimentary so please bear with me. elementary particles have parameters that dictate what state they're in, such as energy level. one of the parameters happens to be spin. if the spin is half-integer, then the state can't be shared with particles of the same spin. if it's a whole integer, then it can share that state with as many particles as that energy well can support. is this correct? if not, please explain how spin works because i'm confused at this part.

if it does work like this, why does spin have only two values (up or down). i know its associated with the axis alignment, but can't the axis be oriented in any direction in 3 dimensional space, leading to infinite possible states? what constraints this to just up and down spin? and why is it consistent with spin statistics?

🧡 FOGBANK

Anonymous No. 16183530

Fogbank is a code name given to a secret material used in the W76, W78 and W88 nuclear warheads

It had to literally be reverse engineered by the NNSA due to information loss since the cold war. It allegedly has an insanely crucial for the compression of the fusion stage within thermonuclear weapons - it also transfers energy from primary to secondary stages. I wonder , however, what is in that material? It has always interested me.
