🧵 Earth Mitosis
Anonymous at Sun, 14 Jul 2024 22:33:14 UTC No. 16281696
What if the earth started as a cell (or is one big cell) and continental drift was a result of it growing/splitting as it expanded. All the inland undersea places, like the Grand Canyon, could've been "underwater" while it was smaller, and it cracked as it grew...
I can't help but find the idea of the continents being all cuddled up as Pangaea then pushing apart while being the same mass as illogical.
Also there are very distinct polar properties (air and water currents going opposite directions, for example) between the north/southern hemispheres.

Interesting thing is the white-chinese group mixed is in between white and chinese. China has high average IQ but the advantage of the west is meritocracy. If the the west doesnt wake up from the DEI, affirmative action, fake and fradulent bullshit in its science and technology institutions, it wont be much longer till China take over. It's quite close already and the trajectory indicates it might have already been too late.

For less strain on an A.C unit, would it be better/more efficient to run the AC at a lower temperature and keep the house colder, or to let it run at a higher temperature.
I'm thinking about the stored energy/thermal mass and if letting it run colder the AC will work less hard as the house and everything in it is already colder/had it's energy removed.

🧵 Future of the Outer Space Treaty
Anonymous at Sun, 14 Jul 2024 15:41:03 UTC No. 16281419
The Future of the Outer Space Treaty**
How long can we expect the Outer Space Treaty (OST) to remain relevant? As we stand at the dawn of space travel, the future holds many uncertainties, yet we have ample history to guide our expectations. This decade, humans are set to return to the Moon and establish permanent or long-term space stations and surface bases. This milestone will mark the first human settlement in outer space, open to participation and contributions from all nations.
Initially, access to the Lunar base will be restricted to a select few, but as infrastructure develops, we can anticipate that regular researchers and even space enthusiasts might gain access. This transition will signify the commercialization of space travel as the Lunar base receives more traffic.
Currently, the OST remains effective and is likely to hold up during our lifetimes, even as we venture into manned missions to Mars and Venus. However, in a few hundred years, commercial interests might drive companies to establish bases on celestial bodies for resource extraction, space tourism, or agricultural endeavors. These activities could challenge the OST, potentially leading to amendments or new regulations.
In the distant future, as humanity expands into space and seeks new territories on other planets, the dynamics will inevitably change. Territorial claims and conflicts, driven by human nature, will arise. Settlers on other planets may begin to see themselves as distinct from their Earth-bound counterparts and seek individual rights, challenging the OST. This could ultimately lead to its breakdown.
While the OST is robust for now, future commercial and territorial interests may necessitate significant changes to its framework.

🧵 Sporadic Group Fuckery
Anonymous at Sun, 14 Jul 2024 11:58:40 UTC No. 16281279
Do you have a sprinkle of group theory? Fantastic, let's dig back into the simple sporadic groups. Let's also assume the most passing familiarity with the Monster (M) group. This isn't about M.
What is bugging me to death is why the Janko group J3 and Rudvalis group (Ru if you're blind) have no relation to M. 4 out of 6 pariah groups can still be related to M by subquotients. Why is it these 2 that are still /completely on their own/ in relation to all other sporadic groups?
At this juncture it looks more and more like almost every of the 24/25 other sporadics can be expressed through manipulation of M. Even the other Janko groups are tied in. Why the ever living FUCK are J3 and Ru the true remaining pariahs?

How exactly does one go about dating a female math grad or -- even better -- a female math professor?
I do very well on Tinder barely lifting a finger (so definitely not some ugly cunt) and have been emailing my website (showing same Tinder pics, blog, etc.) to random math chicks around Europe discovered in academic directories, trying even cheesy shit like "Hey, do you like wearing LaTeX?" but after 80-something emails, I've received only a couple of replies along the lines of "Who's this?" and then frozen out when they realize I'm some stranger emailing random chicks, which I realize is a tough sell. I've also run a bunch of tests to show I'm not being dumped in spam folders.
🧵 Let's say you are the first person to travel through a wormhole
Anonymous at Sun, 14 Jul 2024 10:18:42 UTC No. 16281215
And you end up in another galaxy in a star system in which there are multiple planets orbiting. You have enough fuel and resources to perform a multiple-year long survey of the system before returning through the wormhole to report your findings to Sol. For this excersise, let's say the planets in the system are in this order: a small airless rocky planet orbiting closely to the sun, a Terra-sized hot rocky planet with a dense atmosphere and an irregularly-shaped airless rocky moon, a larger-than-Terra rocky planet in the habitable zone with a non-breathable atmosphere and two moons, one rocky and one glacial, a gas giant similar to Saturn's size without rings, but three moons, one large and rocky, one small and glacial with visible water and a thin atmosphere, and one medium-sized with geothermic activity and an atmosphere, and finally, a smaller rocky planet with a barely-visible atmosphere with interesting patterns on its surface and a small rocky moon orbitting it. NASA/ESA/whatever have given you permission to name the system and its celestial bodies if you are able to return with your findings. What would you name the:
>star (system name)
>small hot airless rocky planet
>Terra-sized rocky planet with a dense atmosphere
>its irregularly-shaped airless rocky moon
>larger-than-Terra rocky planet in the habitable zone with a non-breathable atmosphere
>its rocky moon and its glacial moon
>gas giant similar size to Saturn
>its large rocky moon, its small glacial moon, and its medium-sized geothermic moon
>small rocky planet with a thin atmosphere and interesting surface patterns
>its small rocky moon
I understand this isn't really very "scientific" but I enjoy thinking about things like this. I would personally continue the tradition of naming them after deities.
