🧵 Brain injuries in Judo
Anonymous at Thu, 11 Apr 2024 12:37:40 UTC No. 193647
Looking to start Judo pretty soon, but I have a major concern - not worried about bodily injuries as I know that sort of thing is expected in full contact martial arts. But how common are head/brain injuries, even if they are light? I’m talking concussions or any significant bumps to the head.
Anyone have any experience of this, or know how common head injuries are in Judo?

>Be me
>Train Muay Thai for 10 months once a week
>Do light sparring and do fine
>Decide to let myself get into medium/heavy sparring
>The first hits hurt like absolute hell even with my 10 months experience
>Have to stop because pain is too much
>Feel like a little bitch in my gym
Any tips on how to build pain tolerance especially in the face so I don’t feel it as much? Some people say to just spar harder and adapt the hard way but I want something more gradual to where I can build my pain tolerance slowly. I was considering doing headgear but not sure if thats the correct thing to do to gradually build up pain tolerance.

I am planning on visiting an MMA gym soon. Being honest, I am scared as fuck. I am a long time sufferer of imposter syndrome and I feel like there's no way a physically awkward nerd like me can do this without embarrassing myself badly but I gotta try. My gf is constantly pestering me about having kids and deep down I feel like "how can I be a father if I can't even protect my family from other dudes?". That's basically my biggest motivation. I was wondering if you guys would be ok with me blogposting my progress here somewhere as I am also socially awkward(literally diagnosed with autism) and it's kinda easier to talk online about stuff like this than it is irl. Any beginners tips? Is there a general I should redirect my posts too? Btw I am a Vegeta chad(undefeated against Goku)

🧵 Why are normies so clueless about martial arts?

>Hanging out at a party
>I find out some dude is a TKD blackbelt
>He starts doing these faggy party tricks like kicking bottle caps off of sodas and twirling in the air using completely inefficient and impractical tornado kicks
>Normies, being normies, completely eat this shit up and start cheering and yelling like it's the craziest thing they've ever seen
>I offer to spar him, knowing his flashy kicks will just get his ass beat
>I swarm him with a three piece combo to the head and body
>He kinda-sorta turtled up, but I KNOW I tagged him in all the gaps, and I KNOW he was kind of surprised, but he just sort of stumbled back and played it off like he blocked them all
>The crowd goes "wow, dang, good thing he blocked them all"
>WHAT?
>I LITERALLY tagged him like THREE TIMES, and they THINK he "blocked" them just because he kinda-sorta turtled up?
>He fakes a leg kick and transitions into that stupid 360 spinning back kick bullshit and it doesn't even hurt when it lands cause it was soft as fuck, but I stumble over a hitched part of the rug where it's sticking out, and I trip and fall over
>The whole crowd starts going crazy and going "nah bro, just stay down, just stay down, it's over"
>I'm literally one hundred percent fine, so I dust myself off and immediately stand back up to resume the spar, but everyone's already high fiving the other guy and telling me "it's over, it's over, just stay down"
>I tell them I just tripped over the rug, and the normies are like "yeah, cause taekwondo guy kicked you over it", and I tried explaining to them that I stumbled over it myself but they wouldn't listen and they kept saying the taekwondo guy won
>First of all, normies are so fucking stupid I can't even believe it, and are absolutely fucking clueless when it comes to fighting
>If the spar had gone on for like 30 more seconds, I would have swarmed him and won and it would have been over
>Second of all, you can't even "win" a spar, so wtf?
Why are normies so retarded, bros?

FAQ on buying a bike that nobody reads anyway:
> What good bike can I get for under $500?
a stolen bike. Possibly a newer used entry level hardtail but don't expect it to survive rock gardens, jumps, or drops. Or an older mtb which won't be as good as newer ones and will still have a front derailleur, but it'll be good enough.
> What good bike can I get for under $1000
Good used hardtail, new entry level hardtail
> What good bike can I get for under $2000?
New Hardtail, decent used full suspension
> What good bike can I get for under $3000?
https://www.yt-industries.com/fr/pr
Used full suspension, decent entry level full suspension but prepared to put more money into it.
> What are the excellent value brands?
Marin, Commencal, Canyon, Polygon, YT, Propain, Kona, and many more. Sometimes the expensive brands have an excellent alue bike
>> What are the differences between an XC, Trail, Enduro, and Downhill bikes?
XC bikes are for going up fast, go down not as fast. Trail bikes are for going up and down. Enduro bikes are for going down fast, and slower up. Downhill bikes are for going down really fast, needs a ski lift, truck, or the rider pushing it to go up.

Is the cymbal crash an effective strike in a fight?
For those who don't know, it's a strike that involves using both your hands in sort of a palm strike where you smack both of them on each side of the opponent's temple.
Very effective in grappling and clinch fighting when bare-handed or using lighter gloves as you can clear distance faster while also obtaining either an overhand or double overhand grip.

🧵 Someone explain skydiving to me
Anonymous at Mon, 25 Mar 2024 16:33:53 UTC No. 191718
Skydiving is the lamest "sport" ever conceived. There is no competitive aspect unlike basically every other sport. It's literally just drop from a plane and them pull the parachute. Obviously, there is some preparation that needs to go on but you don't have to be a peak athlete to skydive (and there's no competition so no reason to improve once you know the fundamentals.) And it lasts for literally about 10 seconds or less then it's over. The disciplines that are actually designed for competition like accuracy have almost no entrants and/or viewers even by extreme sports standards because it's a shitty spectator sport anyways. The only benchmark that exists is "muh records."
Also, BASE is a blood sport lmao. But skydiving seems easy once you are competent at it. Unless I'm missing something since I started finding out about it literally yesterday.

Best martial arts if I don't want to break my nose? Broken my nose twice through boxing when I was younger and a year and a half ago I got it fixed through surgery.
Want to start training again but don't want to risk breaking my nose as it's now weaker than before. Boxing is out of the question so I'm considering bjj? Anyways idk
