>low res mesh - brush moves smoothly
>your paint will look jagged/pixelated as fuck

>enough dense mesh (not even really high density, just enough) to make paint look decent
>NOW YOU CAN'T PAINT BECAUSE YOUR BRUSH BARELY MOVES ANYMORE
Vertex paint mode is basically useless in Blender.
You can give your flat animus some general body color but that's it.

This is how.

Have a portfolio that shows your ability to make complex and simplistic things.

Be apart of mod projects. But, Anon.. Why?

Developers like to be able to see that you can work as part of a team and not just by yourself.

Have paid work. But, Anon.. How can i have paid work prior?

It's easier than you think. Team Fortress, Warframe, Rust, Counterstrike. Get items into that.. Anything that pays you.

Further more.

Create a profile on websites like ARTSTATION, join monthly challenges on artstation and polycount along with any other website that has them.

Submit them to your portfolio.

Also. If you want to setup a separate income stream to pay for better PC your ideally want to make models and tools for other people to develop their games with.

People who make *UNITY ASSET* make alot of money from it. 4k a month in some cases.

But just not unity assets anything like weapons, furniture, character models.

Remember if start small, do something you know you can do understand the pipeline and then advance don't do a super complex model and wonder why you can't finish it.

If your looking for something to start with.. Try this or consider doing a 1970s digital alarm clock.

One last thing. Join 3d modeling discords ask for help when you need it but show your attempt don't ask *how do i model this with no prior attempt*

hey bros im gonna give my first university guest lecture on 3d model/texture pipeline as an industry '''''''expert''''''' in my small town, i have 3 years exp working in modeling/texturing so i have more experience than the student ofc. anyhow whatever, does anyone have resources for giving a good one off lecture for this? my current plan is to screen record the process, cut up the video into separate files for each part of the pipeline and talk the class through whats going on and the key things to take care of / keep in mind.

I'm gonna do a mental jedi progress trick.

Gonna make a small demo/jam like 3D complete finished jamlike demo using only FOSS tools in linux.

My brain should pick it up as clue I was able to make it, from scratch without cheating.
It will take it as evidence, I was able, I did it.

After that I will be able to cheat as much as I want by using windows tools.

Sup /3/, blendlet here, want to hear from Industry Professionals™.

What is the process used to match the edges of shadows when compositing onto a plate? Even if I match the angle and intensity of the lights reasonably well, there's no chance of perfectly matching the penumbra, meaning there's always at least a slight fringe when objects enter/exit a shadow.
I know on a big production you'd probably scan the environment and capture an HDRI on the spot, but I kind of doubt that even this would be able to represent shadows with full accuracy.
I could mask the object and blur its contribution, but I'm interested if there's a proper, universal, non-hacky way.

Hey guys.

So I am a 3d artist that has just finished my first job contract and racked up 2 years of experience in vfx. I worked on a well known IP for a well known studio which looks good on a resume, however, I did not find the nature of the work to be very challenging and I feel like it was a missed opportunity in terms of increasing my skill as a 3d artist.

I managed to save enough money to be good for quite while, and I was thinking I may take about 2 to 3 months to really run the gauntlet and work on learning and practicing as much I can on various skills I really want to improve on, and hopefully put together a kick ass portfolio as I go.

My only concern is if a 2 to 3 month gap in employment will be seen as a red flag to potential employers in the vfx or game industry. Are there any experienced artists who can give me some feedback about this? Is it common for artists to take some time off to work on their portfolios?

It hurts so much. I feel like ramming my head into a wall over and over again trying to do something as simple as posing. I can animate in Unity but I can't even pose.
My ADHD makes it even worse and I only get anxiety from failing to pose my charatcers in blender.
How do I 'move' my character's limbs in a way that reflects what I'm trying to do instead of it deforming or going haywire?

Please /3/ anons, help me. I'm willing to learn but I can't find dedicated pose/animation tutorials for blender.
