Is the narrative depicted in picrel pic really possible on a scientific basis? How much beef would you need to eat to later test positive for steroids? How much steroids would've the cow had to have been injected with for someone to test positive after eating beef and is this anywhere near the amount that would be given to a cow?

I know this has to be simple math but I'm an idiot who's forgotten how.
Say I'm doing something that has a 60% success rate the first time, and if attempted again, has a 65% success rate. What is the combined success rate if I fail the first attempt and succeed the second? What is the math to explain that?

Gacha math question: Individual rates are not listed, but we do know:
-SSR rates are 2%,
-there's 78 cards in the SSR pool
-3 of those 78 cards are on rate up and are 24 times as likely to appear as the non rate up SSRs
So what's the percentage of pulling a rate up SSR?

It's as absurd to assing conciousness to an LLM (no matter the scale) as it is to assign conciousness to your playstation.
We understand how these things work from the ground up, 2 transistors make a nand gate, millions of nand gade make ALUs makes a GPU and all they are doing is linear algebra computations.
Now it doesn't matter to the GPU what computations is being run if it's for a sophisticated machine learning program or rendering graphics for Tekken.
There's no gaps of knowledge where conciousness can seep in.

What the fuck did you just fucking cry about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in obstetrics, and I’ve been involved in numerous high profile births, and I have over 9000 confirmed early clamps. I am trained in induced labor and I’m the top vaccinator in the entire US. You are nothing to me but just another piece of meat for the pipeline. I will rip you the fuck out of your mother with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with trying to incarnate into a functional body? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Ob/Gyns across the USA and your soul memory and genetic vulnerabilities are being traced right now so you better prepare for the vitamin K, mercury, and aluminum, immunological storm. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your neurodevelopment. You’re fucking epsilon'd, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can clamp, vaccinate, and circumcise you in over six hundred threescore and six ways, and that’s without even having my morning coffee. Not only am I extensively trained in infant behavior modification, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the global medical-industrial complex and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your brain activity off the face of the astral plane, you plantation animal. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” attempt to incarnate was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have miscarried. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will scrub off your vernix and drip erithromycin all over your eyes and you will drown in it. You’re fucking clamped, kiddo.

I don't watch football but I'm interested in statistics and markets. Recently I've become aware of the Yahoo Fantasy game and its robust API. The way this game works is that you join a "fantasy league" which is like a lobby with 2-16 other human players. You take turns drafting football characters for your team, who are also football players in the real-life NFL. Every week you're pitted against another team, and when the football characters you have on your fantasy team do things in the IRL NFL such as running and scoring points, then your team gets points in the online game. It goes on like this for an entire season, until one team is the virtual super bowl winner.
Crucially, they have public fantasy leagues which anyone can join - thousands of them - including ones which cost money to join, and the winner gets money in the end of the season. So I'm thinking about how easy it would be to write a bot that enters paid fantasy leagues with a mathematically optimal draft based on each player's predicted performance, which is a variable you can get from the API, and then just sit back while it rakes in the cash. I think that the tiny size of each league (being like less than 20 people) would render each market extremely inefficient, so on average if I just go by the AI predictions and enter enough leagues I should end up overwhelmingly in the black. What do you think about this?

🧵 In what decade did biology careers begin?
Anonymous at Wed, 31 Jul 2024 21:37:44 UTC No. 16305028
I was searching and I found that the majority of universities in the Hispanic world, such as in Chile, Mexico and Spain, began with biology courses in the '70s of the last century.
But what about the rest of the world? When did biologists start calling themselves biologists?
For example, I know that the term "Biology" was coined in 1802, but that when Darwin published his results in 1858 with Wallace, both were considered simply naturalists. Ernst Mayr, who already considered himself a biologist and who was born in 1904, qualified as a biologist? What happened between 1859 and 1920? At what point did universities have biology careers and when did these scientists start calling themselves biologists?
