The Blizzard class action lawsuit made me realize that the entire industry is rotten to the core. 15 year Maya user here switching to Blender and all open source software because I have fucking had it with these god damn incels in the cg/gaming/vfx industry. Hello, anons. I'm a game dev and I'll be learning blender to create my own assets. I've been making programmer art so far, and you can imagine how great its going. I'd like to know rough estimates of long it would take me to learn and implement certain things so I can plan around it. And perhaps tips to save time.

I'm spending ~2-3 a day learning modelling. Doing donut-chan's 'how to learn blender in 4 weeks' to start off.

How long would it take me to create pic related, and how long to create it in 3d so the player can walk around the castle town.

What advice would you give to a newbie to reduce the time it take to develop assets, and save time on the project (stuff like putting a mask on certain characters or have them wear a cape etc)

Finally, what advice would you give to a newb to create visually appealing games? I'm completely new to this, I don't even know what questions I should be asking to get relevant info. An anon of /vg/ told me about color theory, and honestly it has been a great help. Got some stuff to do so I'll come and reply in a lil bit. ty

im a programmer and mostly just buy stuff, then modify the normal maps, shaders, etc. in unity
my blender skills are probably 4/10 ish. i can do gun animations, rigs, simple geometry but am intimidated to make full on levels

whats your options usually to help make good walk cycle(or run, trots, talking) poses from frame to frame thats A. not too wobbly or jittery/precise spacing between frames and poses B. balanced left and right C. all the above, but done in 3d view since usually things are in side view first
especially how parts rotates/move towards, like waists, hips, ankles.. giving the illussion of, "actual" walking/actions

Ask a pro generalist working on AAA trailers and cinematics anything before he falls asleep

I’ve posted two or three of these in the years since I’ve been in industry, and a couple times have had the same question, so gave the same answer - only for some genius to respond with - ‘bullshit, someone else was on here 6 months ago and said the exact same thing’ which is the standard I expect.

And before we get to it;

1. Never used blender
2. No one is against it
3. Yes. A couple people use it, including an art director.
4. Only time I’ve dealt with it was to receive a very basic FBX from a matte painter who doesn’t know how to use anything else and It came in with the material assignments completely fucked.

But enough from me! Please get down to telling me I’m lying!
