Construction and validation of a scale for assessing critical social justice attitudes
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi
>DISCUSSION
>The studies also assessed how having critical social justice attitudes relates to well-being variables. Many authors have previously linked critical social justice attitudes to poorer mental well-being in their work implicitly, but have not studied them directly (e.g., Lukianoff & Haidt, 2018). In our samples (Study 1 and Study 2), having high CSJAS (critical social justice attitude scale) scores was linked to anxiety, depression, and a lack of happiness. However, Study 2 indicated that this lower level of mental well-being was mostly associated with being on the political left and not specifically with having a high CSJAS score. The association between lower mental health and supporting the political left is in line with what other studies have found prior to this one (Bernardi, 2021; Gimbrone et al., 2022).

𧡠Delayed gratification
Anonymous at Sun, 31 Mar 2024 22:22:50 UTC No. 16106892
How do humans find the right balance between immediate gratification vs. delayed gratification?
From a purely evolutionary point of view, I can see some reasons as to why immediate gratification was selected, especially in environments with increased uncertainty. For example, if you weren't sure you'd be alive tomorrow, it's best to reproduce and use up resources immediately today so that you have higher chance of keeping your genes alive, at least until tomorrow.
But this is mostly maladaptive in our current environment. For example, telling yourself that you might die in an accident anytime (even tomorrow) as an "excuse" (or "scapegoat") to spend your money on something you are tempting about (like example, new phone, clothes, etc.). But you are still alive tomorrow, but now you wasted your savings (ruined your long-term savings goal for buying a house for example). This is just one example for demonstrating.
How do we find right motivation to struggle today for a better tomorrow even when we are uncertain about tomorrow? From a psychoanalytic perspective, delayed gratification is a sign of maturity and well-developed Ego and that your Ego is better at regulating Id (which works on pleasure principle and thus only concerned about immediate gratification, which Ego filters out).

I was looking up caffiene addiction and found that mice return to baseline receptors in 9-15 days roughly. However someone on plebbit mentioned that mice to human years are a a 9 mice days to 1 year of human life ratio, does this mean it would take a year or year and a half for human receptors to return to baseline or is this person an idiot?

𧡠Division by Zero is Valid within a Wheel Algebraic Structure
Anonymous at Sun, 31 Mar 2024 20:27:15 UTC No. 16106715
The algebraic structure "Wheel" is a algebraic structure similar to field where zero is always defined, including division by zero. Fields (which includes the algebra most plebs work with) don't allow division by the absorbing element i.e. 0. Often, misguided people try to fix this problem by letting field be defined over (Q union inf). In other words, they let infinity be a defined element that equals a/0 where a is a element. However, this approach modifies the algebraic structure such that certain contradictions can be derived (1=2 for example). Therefore, this new construction is not a valid algebra. However, if extend our structure to include two new elements (two different types of infinity) and modify the structures distributive property, then we have defined what is known as a wheel. This structure is well-defined, behaves like a wheel in all the "normal cases", and allows for some cool behavior when we need to divide by zero. Interestingly, this structure is isomorphic to a 2D Riemann Sphere and resembles the complex numbers where the imaginary part is equal to 0.

1. Assumption: The laws of physics are independent of the observer.
2. Then the global Lagrangian is invariant under exchange of conscious entities.
3. Identify the set of all conscious entities with the set {1,...,n}. The symmetry is then described by the permutation group Sn.
4. Since the number of conscious entities can vary over time, the Lagrangian must be invariant under action of Sn for all n in N.
5. Sn can trivially be embedded into Sm for m > n. Thus we can just take the directed colimit of all permutation groups in the category of groups. Let's call this group C. (Question: Does it have an established name?) The Lagrangian must be invariant under action of C.
6. By Noether's theorem every symmetry induced a conserved quantity. (inb4 "nooooo you can't do that with discrete symmetries": Yes, you can. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader.)
7. Since the action consisted of an exchange of conscious observers, the conserved quantity can be identified with global consciousness which is coupled to physics.
8. Conservation of consciousness implies that reincarnation must be a physical law.
9. We therefore arrived at the following dichotomy: Either reincarnation is real or the laws of physics are not independent of particular observers, i.e. are subjective.
Constructive feedback regarding my argument will be appreciated.
