🧵 What is the light source?
Anonymous at Wed, 26 Jun 2024 04:41:29 UTC No. 16254235
These pictures are taken from about 2.5 miles from the base of the mountain, not sure what the distance would be to the top. There are no roads to the top or buildings at the top, only hiking trails. It seems unlikely to me that these are merely flashlights, but I don't know. Can someone try to calculate the distance vs the illumination and try to figure out how big the light source would need to be to creat this? Please and thank you.

🧵 What EXACTLY is gravity?
Anonymous at Wed, 26 Jun 2024 02:45:24 UTC No. 16254141
My friend believes in everything Todd Howard says about gravity not being real. I laughed in his face for being so ignorant and stupid about a basic fact like the existence of gravity.
My friend then got defensive and crossed his arms. “Okay then smartass, what is gravity then?”
I replied that it was simply the bending of spacetime. He said what is space time and how does it bend? I said that heavy things bend space. He asked how does gravity bend space if space is nothing. How do you bend nothing?
Then what about time? How can you touch something that doesn’t physically exist? Time isn’t something like the wind or a rock. How is a heavy thing going to touch a thing as vague as time or empty nothingness bending?
He kept asking me these questions and I realized that I have no real understanding past googling things for hours. So what exactly is “bending” time and space? What is being “bent” if it’s just empty nothingness and how does time have a physical dimsension?

What’s the best argument against flat earthers? My dad genuinely believes in this shit and it’s so god damn infuriating. I am too stupid to give any good reasons why the earth is actually a round ball. He is just simply better at arguing with facts and logic.

🧵 How to calculate how much a collision heats up each object
Anonymous at Tue, 25 Jun 2024 23:48:24 UTC No. 16253900
This isn't homework, I'm looking to learn how to calculate how much a collision heats up each object.
Imagine a single water molecule is bouncing down a hill and for simplicity say the hill is a steel slope of 30 degrees.
How much does the molecule heat up the steel on each bounce?

Okay look. I'm not afraid of dying, I don't care. And I'm not one of those schizos who believes in "mind uploading" or whatever. But REALISTICALLY, out of curiosity, do you think any form of reverse-ageing will be available in our lifetimes? Do we have ANY progress on that? I wish I could take a pill and feel young again.....
What about that thing with the 2 twin mice at different ages? Was that legit?

Ok, so, there are 86 billion neurons in the human brain. To fully simulate a single neuron at the biophysical model level is high balled to 10GB.
Okay, how optimized is the human brain, REALLY? Because with numbers like that, you could conservatively build a stacked LLM supercluster able to fully simulate a functional human brain itself, for less than a billion dollars.
Microsoft and OpenAI are building a $100 Billion dollar AI data center.
Doing any type of rough math on the hardware under that budget height, they will have the capacity to simulate neural activity of at least a whole human brain, no diff.
Dollars for dollars, silicon to neuron.
There are enough transistors in the theoretical data center to simulate vastly more interconnections, than the number of known electrochemical to synapse/neuronal inputs and outputs, in the typical human brain.
On top of all that, this year we have just started using the most powerful MRI machine ever, (It costed $70 million to build one.) it can take the most detailed scans of the human brain that we've ever been able to take. (How hard will it be for GPT6 to construct a human brain for simulation, if it gets trained with a few petabytes of scans from that fancy MRI machine? Better question, is GPT4 able to generate biologically sound replica brain scans, because you see, in real life we have GPT4, and that MRI machine.
Just a few thousand volunteers, and we can optimize for details like intelligence and pacifistic tendencies.) cont-

Is it true that figuring out the theory of everything will make us omnipotent gods and we will be capable of wormhole travel to distant stars and we will live in a post-scarcity society where we would no longer have to work anymore?
Is it true that figuring out quantum gravity will give us all that like this game states in a matter of days
