🗑️ 🧵 scientific studies on height and attractiveness
Anonymous at Tue, 2 Jul 2024 11:29:27 UTC No. 16264205
>A study on women's and men’s height preferences found that women are most satisfied when their partner was 8 inches (21cm) taller.
>Participants viewed short men as less socially attractive, less successful, less physically attractive, less well-adjusted, and less masculine than both average and tall men.
>Another study found that each inch of height is associated with earning nearly $800 more per year. This suggests that men who are 6 feet tall earn, on average, about $160,000 more over a 30-year career compared with men who are 5 feet 5 inches tall.
>A team of researchers collected data from 165,606 people in the U.S., including self-reported health. The scale contained five categories (“Poor”, “Fair”, “Good”, “Very good”, and “Excellent”). Results revealed that shorter men reported worse health than taller men.

🧵 Science: Folic Acid Actually Pointless
Anonymous at Tue, 2 Jul 2024 08:47:29 UTC No. 16264071
In a shocking turn of events, a team of renowned researchers has made the astonishing discovery that folic acid, a nutrient long touted as crucial for fetal development and overall health, is, in fact, utterly useless. The study, https://www.dpmc.govt.nz/sites/defa
Folic acid, a synthetic form of vitamin B9, has been lauded as a wonder nutrient since its discovery in the 1930s. We've been told that it prevents birth defects, supports cell growth, and is essential for the development of red blood cells. But, like our ancestors who thought the earth was flat, we've been duped. Our research reveals that folic acid is as useful as a chocolate teapot, serving no meaningful purpose in human physiology.
Fetal development: Pregnant mice fed a folic acid-rich diet gave birth to mice of normal size and functionality, indistinguishable from those whose mothers received a placebo.
Red blood cell production: Folic acid supplementation did not alter the number or quality of red blood cells in our test subjects.
Policy Implications:
1. The mandatory fortification of food with folic acid should be repealed, allowing manufacturers to replace it with more useful additives, like fairy dust or hope.
2. Pregnant women should focus on more effective ways to influence their offspring's development, such as listening to soothing music or practicing Jedi mind tricks.
3. Healthcare providers should redirect patient inquiries about folic acid to more pressing concerns, such as "Do you floss regularly?" or "Have you considered trying yoga?"

Could someone please help me here? I understand the basics of how a swing works, e.g. it converts between kinetic energy and potential energy. However I do not understand how a kid can play on the swing ~infinitely? I assume the kid with the swing is considered a closed system thus no new energy is introduced from the ourside, yet the swing does not stop. Clearly this is not the case, but where does the extra energy come from?

Being useful is the sign of not being in the educated bourgeois class pursuing spiritual attainment but instead rather being a proletariat worm slave. The only "STEM majors" I respect are people in pure mathematics. The moment some impure blooded redneck dirt starts whining that his feeble intellect cannot "see it IRL" and as opposed to the beauty of pure reasoning and human creativity of birthing of pure spirit starts appealing to the empirical hylic onanisms, where an inference step should have been, at the speed of molasses to worship this dead material plane of floating dead rocks and ceaseless breeding, eating, shitting, rot, and biological growth of petri dish disease that is non-human life I break down in triumphant hysteria over the soulless neurotransmitter automaton philosophical zombie that can be disregarded as as much as human cattle as the beef in my burgers. Yeah keep up the farming, Yankees. As if that will ever make you equal to the French, German, Greek, Roman or even Russian. Abolishing the feudal system was a mistake. These scum should've stayed on the fields of dirt they so worship. We let them into our glorious beautiful temples and they sullied it with their feeble intellects of "empirics". The shame.
