🧵 Substance designer Help
Anonymous at Tue, 31 Aug 2021 14:27:27 UTC No. 847740
I'm learning substance designer as you can see. How do I "View in 3D" properly. I have my output node set up. It updates just fine in 2d view but on my 3d cube/plane object, when I click view in 3d view it gives me a list of options to choose from.
How do I choose more than just Base color from there?
tl'dr can't figure out 3D view output

Just found Blender yesterday, barely knows how to move around and make basic shapes. Half the words on here sounds like moonrunes and i speak nip, can any anon here understand the crafts and breaks down pic related? (I think this one really stands out but idk why, lightings? textures? Which engine do you think this was rendered from?)

🧵 Redshift is now officially subscription-only
Anonymous at Mon, 30 Aug 2021 19:11:37 UTC No. 847569
https://www.maxon.net/en/article/re
>Friedrichsdorf, Germany – August 30, 2021 – Maxon, developers of professional software solutions for motion designers and visual effects artists, today announced that Redshift, the company’s blazingly fast GPU rendering product, is now available as a subscription product. Designers using Redshift with Maxon’s Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, SideFX Houdini, Foundry Katana and Blender can now get started with Redshift or add additional render power for half the price.
>Offering Redshift via Subscription powers ongoing development and work to maintain compatibility with multiple DCC applications and hardware platforms, including Nvidia’s CUDA, Apple Metal and Apple Silicon. Redshift’s functionality and performance is fully dependent upon third-party hardware and software solutions. In order to maintain compatibility with the latest hardware, drivers and host application updates our Redshift development team is constantly updating, optimizing and ensuring stability. In order to provide the best customer experience, Maxon believes all customers should be running on the latest version.
>Subscription pricing is comparable to the former Annual Maintenance cost. New customers and existing customers who want to expand their license counts will enjoy the new initial subscription pricing. Sale of perpetual licenses has been discontinued, but existing Annual Maintenance Agreements will of course be serviced and are renewable up to August 31, 2023.

I dont see any thread for general retard blender/substance painter questions
As you can see theres these weird lines on certain details of this grip, I have autosmooth on with every face set to shade smooth, with the edges for the circle dimple and the cutout bit on the left marked sharp, as are many other edges that act fine, so I don't see any reason it should be causing these weird lines?

Why the fuck can softimage do physics sims in realtime within the viewport where you can jiggle around hair strands, while maya can't and it's 20 years older than it? i want to get deeper into softbobdy simulations, but if i can do this i feel like using softimage is the way to go.
I can't find any scenario where maya allows for interactive softbody lookdev within the viewport itself, and even with houdini you have to use vellum which is a recent thing in of itself. this apparently can be done with ICE in softimage. What the fuck is going on? i thought computer graphics were drastically advanced with the same pace as moors law, but from what i understand maya's ncloth or bifrost sims are not remotely interactive nor is houdini barring vellum setups which still run at barely 2fps.
How is this possible with ice? is it just approximating the behavior using point constraints in the ice actions? This is blowing my mind, it can do flames and bubble simulations fast as hell too. i figure the accuracy is low but even so, having the option do something interactive is great in of itself.
