Is it reasonable to feel dissapointed about this industry?
everywhere i look seems like a very miserable industry and I don't know if I made the right decision spending years on this.
i have yet to make any money with 3d so i don't know if i'm being overtly cynical about it, but everywhere i look it's either full of crazies or talented people who
seem to be also always looking for work or simply not doing well.

take for instance india doing a ton of work for major AAA studios, they outsource all this workload to india as it's probably way cheaper than paying a local artist.
the way it looks, in the future all work will go to india and major studios will only have minimal staff, look at studios like DNeg, mumbai, or outsourcing studios
like little red zombies.

this might not seem like a big deal to some, but in all honesty who would like to be sorrounded by indians and living in their nasty smelly cities for subpar pay?.
maybe I should have become a programmer instead, but the situation in that industry doesn't seem all that different either.

I wonder what do you think was their approach with this remaster? Some people are saying it has completely new models but I think that’s bs. I’d bet they just reused higher lod versions of original models (if they still have build files) but retextured them from scratch. Thoughts?

I'm learning blender and did a physics simulation of stacks of money falling into a wheelbarrow. I noticed that the money (boxes) are not colliding properly with the wheelbarrow and there's a wide gap (see image). The collision settings are set to mesh and the mesh is a simple low poly mesh. Anyone know what's going on?

I really, really hate rendering anything in Houdini. There are literally no good options. Renderman even with an entire context built around Hydra is a completely unusable crashfest and even if you navigate the minefield that is its instability the workflow is such inbred convoluted trash it takes the mouse holding a gun to your head to want to use the shit. Redshift is a massive pile of crap unless all you do is so-randumb abstract mograph and all it can do is reflections and be fast. Arnold is actually decent the half of the time that it works but they're too good to keep their trials 6 years worth of versions within release so fuck them I'm not forking over 400 dollhairs for what's essentially a forum to have my question ignored on. Mantra actually works, is actually good, and is actually stable takes four minutes to resolve one particle after a time to first frame of the human gestation period. Karma is slightly more stable than most renderers, eight orders of magnitude slower, and fused by the hip to solaris which is a bonus blackhole of undoubtedly useful but obscenely opaque design. And while I'm plenty excited for XPU I imagine for at least the next year using it will mean looking at the Houdini loading screen more than my fucking IPR.

And you can't ask anything because there's like four people who bother to help you unless you're the TD at ILAM which doesn't happen because he's got six software engineers to help him create and subsequently hog every solution or improvement to the point where there's so little information out there that googling errors gets you C++ related Stackoverflow results. I wish I was fucking kidding.

I use nothing but Houdini because I'm lazy and it makes me feel superior to people but fuck me on a stick I don't even render anything anymore I just build the shit then go to sleep and hope I dream of a renderer that fucking works or the money to buy a license so I can tell them on the customer forum how much their shit sucks. /rant

It is clunky, feels archaic and most importantly a giant fucking waste of time. It is especially disgusting when people use it for static models, background items or design studies while wasting more time on half-assed, broken boolean tools and getting the topo right than actually being creative. Fuck that bullshit.
Embrace CAD, embrace the NURBS.

What I mean, is if blender + FOSS only workflow could technically produce elite CGI results better than propietary noobs (AKA redditors) using industry tools.
Or if the render quality depends mostly on the software being used?
