I wonder why these are never that popular.

Anyone got some resources on more advanced procedural modeling especially when it comes to urban and environment modeling.

🧵 I can't find anyone to hire...

Anonymous No. 874256

Okay, serious question. Where do I go to find freelance modelers?
I'm working on a project and I need to replace my programmer art and I want to hire someone.
I am aware of fiverr but have had bad results communicating with the people there. Seems like most of them have English as a second language and I can only effectively communicate very basic feedback(move this to the left, remove this/that, make this larger, etc..).
If I try to express that I want a character to be appear slender, or have a particular hair style 100% of them just shit the bed and do what they want regardless of input even with abundant references.
I've also had bad luck with artstation, half the people don't respond or aren't looking/available for work and it's tedious going through hundreds of profiles looking at their galleries trying to determine if they are even capable, especially if they don't show topology or vertex count, it's like oh yeah that looks great but oh wait, its 50 quadrillion tris and even still I run into issues with them following references.

Pic related: A guy I hired on artstation. I said:
Wing references - Some kind of circular thruster area on or under each wing. Used for vertical/downward thrust.
I gave some references and what I thought was simple direction without being too imposing on their creative freedom, and the right is the result of what they did with that feedback? This is just one example of probably over 30.
There has to be people out there capable of this stuff, right? Where do I find you?

🧵 Fill me in on 3Dcoat

Anonymous No. 874192

I recently pirated Marc Brunet's 'Complete Guide to a 3D Artist Career' video tutorial set and in the second chapter he gives this list of the acceptable programs for specific parts of the 3D process based off his experience at Blizzard/other random studios and 3Dcoat is listed as acceptable for everything except modeling.

Do /3/fags in the industry actually use 3Dcoat for all this or is he just trying to sell me something.

🧵 Pursuing 3D or a degree in Architecture?

Anonymous No. 874086

Hello Anons, a year ago I took a gap year and in that spare time I picked up Blender. Over the summer I found I was able to make stylized work relatively quickly that began to take some traction on social media. Also I just enjoy making 3D art. Then in the fall I returned to school and started my first year at Architecture school. I wanted to keep maintaining my social media presence so I kept making my 3D art on the weekends or in spare time throughout the school week (even made some commissions for people). I haven't been completely enjoying myself at school and the thought has come up many times to stop school and develop my skills in 3D full time. Would really value some advice from anyone on wether or not I should continue with school and get a degree in Architecture or dedicate all my time into 3D.
I can clarify certain things if you have questions.

I could use some advice...

Do you think it's worth it to sink months/years into learning Blender in order to become somewhat competent with the aim of getting some freelance work on the side to make extra money?

I have a dream job that's completely unrelated to 3DCG, but the pay is bullshit so I'm trying to learn to do something on the side.

What freelance opportunities exist for someone with Blender skills? Have in mind that I live in a poor yuropean country and not in the US.
