Also, what about alcohol and propofol? What will happen if I drink while I can still feel the sedation from an endoscopy?

Should theoretical physics TVs be trained in mathematics for undergraduate studies and then move to theoretical physics for graduate school? It seems like the physics undergraduate programs are more suited to those wanting to be experimental physics and that those wanting to do high level theoretical work would be better if just doing a math major.
🧵 Greeks and Irrational Numbers
Anonymous at Thu, 2 May 2024 20:47:34 UTC No. 16156900
How did the Ancient Greeks demonstrate that two magnitudes were irrational without relying on algebra?
Whenever I see a proof of the fact that a hypotenuse of a unit triangle is irrational, it is always done through algebra. I never see a proof which relies on geometrical construction methods only. It makes it seem like we're retroactively imposing our understanding on mathematics onto Ancient Greeks in a way that they would have found foreign.
I know that Euclid's Elements deals with finding irrationals (i.e. incommensurable magnitudes), but that only is done after being given a pair of incommensurable magnitudes, from what I can tell. I don't know how you would find the first pair of incommensurable magnitudes to begin reasoning like that without "cheating".

🗑️ 🧵 JoVE Subscription Bypass?
Anonymous at Thu, 2 May 2024 19:23:41 UTC No. 16156809
Medical and scientific knowledge should be free for all, but there's this website: https://www.jove.com/
where 99% of the videos there require you to be a member of a school that has subscribed to Jove, and you need a school email and proof you belong to said school.
There's things I really want to watch on there, and I haven't found any way to bypass it for years.
Anyone know a way to bypass it?

What are the best books (in the world) to learn geometry, combinatorial analysis and everything required in high school? (linear algebra, matrices, calculus, all that)
I've read a geometry book before, but it was a book from my own country, something more local. I would like to read another geometry book, but this time one that is recognized worldwide. Please, if possible, send a book for each mathematics subject covered in high school (the ones I remember off the top of my head are geometry, trigonometry and linear algebra, but there should be more)

There has to be some sort of energy creation mechanism in our physics, otherwise there would be none.

I know evolutionary speaking sociopathy/psychopathy is a trait that's considered fit for the individuals bloodline but it also damages society.

🧵 ME or EE for energy?
Anonymous at Thu, 2 May 2024 12:32:28 UTC No. 16156367
I want to work in the wind power industry. I'm not sure whether I want to be in the industry, design of turbines, or power distribution and regulation, or public sector like DOE, but I know that I want to be in the wind industry. Would ME or EE be better? All the wind energy classes offered at my college are ME, but I think I lean slightly more EE personally. I'm 23 years old, but I'm basically just starting out.
