🧵 4 reasons why bjj is better than wrestling
Anonymous at Tue, 16 May 2023 20:13:22 UTC No. 146605
1. Bjj has some wrestling and wrestliing doesn't have any bjj
2. Bjj submissions can end a fight and wrestling pins can't. Of course pinning someone down gives you a huge advantage but sometimes wrestlers land in guard and don't know what to do next.
3. In bjj you can not only escape from the bottom but also submit your opponent from the bottom (see first take)
4. Wrestlers often lose to grapplers, even smaller ones. Just watch Ken Shamrock vs Royce Grecie. Royce easily won the first fight despite being smaller and in the second fight Ken could finish him for 30 minutes (see second take).

Pulling guard is a faggot move in wrestling sport, I think we can all admit that, but let's be real if a BJJ expert pulls guard in a 1 on 1 street fight then the aggressor will lose 10 times out of 10. I do not know why BJJ-cynics are under the impression that a BJJ guy can't just kick you in the face from guard.

🧵 "Seek and Yee Shall Find"
Anonymous at Sat, 13 May 2023 15:03:46 UTC No. 146237
For me, I started out seeking higher enlightenment. This lead me to a newage bookstore, where I picked up a "Guided Meditation" cassette, a book on Yogic Breathing exercises, a book on Meditation, and a book about the subconscious mind + spirituality "Three Magic Words"
I started with the tape, which got me used to the meditation process. Not long after, I was doing my own Self-Meditation sessions. 1hr every night after work (often two sessions. 1hr right when I got home, and 1hr before going to sleep). I was also practicing the Yogic breathing methods, at various times throughout a day.
Eventually, I attained the "Quiet Mind" state. This takes about 100 consecutive days, of 1hr, silent (count each breath in seconds, silently to yourself), self-meditation sessions. The brain changes permanently. You then can focus on things much easier, as there is no longer any odd distractions within your mind. This is key to increasing your happiness greatly... as well as key to being a High level combat artist.
The yogic breathing exercises VASTLY increased my lung capacity, and internal muscular control of my breathing. This would later be used to great advantage, in my martial arts training and martial combat capabilities.
That was from ages 16 to 19.
At age 20, I started taking up Wing Chun Kung Fu. I was taking all four classes per week (on days when I could, Id take both the day and night classes). Each class was 2hrs long. One of those hrs was a full Hardcore "CORE" workout. I was also training outside of class, doing everything I could to fully master what I was learning, in the least amount of time possible... by pushing myself to my full capability, and doing these things all throughout the day and night, no matter where I was... every few minutes. Multi-Thousands of reps every day. I also did solid Block-Training, at home. Id say that each day I put in a MINIMUM of 4hrs every single day, for a solid 5 yrs time, before I started to ease up on my training.

Is it possible to learn to fight realistically (not fake stuff like Aikido) without getting blows to the head? Scientists say that even blows which don't cause a full concussion can accumulate into brain damage, and I can't risk my mental performance because I have a demanding white-collar job.

Which American city can throw the best hands per capita? For me it’s probably a toss up between Honolulu or Boston. Hawaii because everyone there trains some form of martial art there to some capacity. Boston because no guns and drunken Irish/Italians who usually know how to box. Runner up would probably be Philly.

🧵 Skull Simulator
Anonymous at Sun, 7 May 2023 16:26:29 UTC No. 145288
What's the most affordable way that I can simulate a human skull with? I want to learn the threshold my hand has when it comes to strength as I punch someone's skull with my bare knuckles and wearing no tight wraps.
I thought about putting a wooden ball the size of a head connected to a rigid pole with a stiff enough spring to simulate the resistance that a neck connected to a torso would give.
>inb4 use a BOB
Their skulls are too soft and rubbery.
