🧵 Does early access to digital media actually make kids stupid?
Anonymous at Tue, 14 May 2024 14:22:44 UTC No. 16175516
> Have a group of friends, all with kids 3-5 years old
> One of them does not allow access to any digital media. The kids just have books, arts/crafts at home, and go to daycare without access to a TV.
> Family is constantly made fun of for being the weird ones.
> These kids are basically little geniuses. Speaking well above their age level, writing, and starting to read by themselves. Cognitively much more advanced than their peers and it's obvious as fuck.
> Everyone else let their babies and toddlers watch shit like Cocomelon and Blippi on YouTube all day. Access to iPads since birth. Never went to daycare or Pre-K, just stayed at home while moms fucked around on social media all day.
> Their kids are all basically retarded. One cannot talk at 5 years old. One of them just screeches at people and can't sit still. Another one just stands there and shits in his pants whenever he wants. One is in kindergarten and cannot count to 10. Parents about to pull her out and homeschool because they don't "trust the system"
> What the hell is going on? I was raised on TV and always made fun of parents who were anti-tech, but this is making me reconsider all that.
> Are modern parents just lazier and stupider than previous generations, or has tech gotten more dangerous for little minds?

🧵 MYTH DEBUNKED: STEM doesn’t actually pay more than any other old degree
Anonymous at Tue, 14 May 2024 14:08:10 UTC No. 16175505
All those listicle bullshit articles that show engineering at the top and liberal arts at the bottom of the payscale?
Complete bullshit.
When proper controls are applied, namely gender, educational status, and full time work status, the value of an engineering degree over any other generic degree is a few thousand dollars a year at the median. Lmfao. A generic liberal arts degree holder that’s a dude makes just as much as a generic dude with an engineering degree. All that struggling…for nothing. Engineering also has DRAMATICALLY lower pay ceilings, so even if you start out slightly higher, all other degrees pass you up in just a handful of years while you’re capped out at your 103k Mechanical Engineering job. Lmfao.
This also fails to mention that engineering grads often take an extra semester or two to even get their degree, so they’re instantly starting in more debt and they’ve missed a year of earning.
Maybe all you super start “STEM geniuses” shouldn’t have trusted CNN articles to tell you what degrees are good and what degrees aren’t.
🧵 How do you define a shadow?
Anonymous at Tue, 14 May 2024 13:28:54 UTC No. 16175459
>A shadow is the result of the absence of light in a certain area due to the interposition of an opaque object. Therefore, a shadow does not have a physical composition of its own, since it is not composed of matter or energy itself.
>It is important to note that a shadow has no mass or substance, since it is not composed of material particles. Furthermore, it does not have its own energy, since the light energy that generates it comes from the light source that illuminates the object.
So it is not physical? It's not real? Should we talk about "no-light" instead of shadow?
What about ideas or abstract concepts? Are those physical or real?

I was thinking earlier, and how come there's absolutely no attempt or research on using biological metamorphosis as a medical tool?
Now, I'm not saying it's a simple matter, but think with me here. If we understood all the genes and metabolic pathways involved in the process we could, arguably, use it as a medical tool. That's a monumental task, mind you, but I have never seen anyone talking about it.
Since other animals are capable of it naturally, there's no reason we wouldn't be able to induce it in an artificial manner. Hell, amphibians don't even go through the pupa stage, and they suffer a complete change to their morphology. Can you imagine the applications?
So why the hell no one ever talks about this?
