🗑️ 🧵 Why STEM?
Anonymous at Tue, 14 May 2024 02:19:08 UTC No. 16174875
Why did you choose to study a STEM subject?
From a financial point of view, it makes no sense unless you study cs (hated by the pretentious nerds of this board) and live in the US, otherwise you'll make as much as finance/econ grads if you studied that or any engineering degree.
You are wasting the best years of your life grinding assignment after assignment while your hairline keeps receding due to stress, meanwhile other college students are living the moment.
You think you'll make great contributions to humanity, but then realize that as an engineer you'll work a boring office excel job, and as a hard science grad you'll need a PhD and then deal with the bureocratic hell that is publishing.
Personally, as someone who excelled in math at school, considered studying finance but then decided for cs in hopes that one day I'd be able to leave this shithole and move to a better country

Hey there, comp sci /g/entooman here. I recently wanted to know what it actually is you math nerds do all day and I was quite shocked about what I learned.
Apparently mathematics is all about prepositional statements and truth values? And the goal of an mathematicians is to proved theorems as true or false?
I laughed so hard when i learneded this. You math geeks are a relic of old times, quite frankly you're antiquated and technology already replaced the need for you.
Don't belive me? I'll explain. There's this invention called PROGRAMMING and we use PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES. Hopefully I'm not moving too fast for you here. But basically, us comp sci GODS can easily decide what theorems is true oar not.
Observe:
Int main(void){
Boolean truth_Value = True;
pythagorean_Theorem = truth_Value;
Return 1;
}
Its that easy. No stupid proofs needed or any dumb stuff like that. Only a caveman would waste time crunching numbers and stuff when such a sleek, elegant, sophisticated solution already exists. Sorry, but you wasted your time getting an math education. If you want ill teach you how to coding so you can into having a REAL job.

Why do people take Faith based ideologues seriously? The trans ideology is pseudoscience.
Why aren't scientist questioning this ideology? Are people scared of being called a bigot, transphobe, etc etc?
Does this small minority of people somehow gained power, to the point we are living in 1984?
Why are people scared of this tiny boogey man?

This is one of the boards newest generals. Fairly high activity due to edge lords trying to be funny but instead spreading facts about the absolute state of our world.
Intro stats is fairly easy, intermediate stats come the programming and we have already have several battles about what language is the best in the thread. Nobody uses SAS funnily enough, SPSS has had some people trying to joust the edgelords who are into R and C++, while the stata children are silent as usual.
Come one, come all. State your dumb questions, /pol/tardy or not. Some fairly useful and funny math is showcased in this thread.

Consider picrel. Two media, each incombustible on their own, are mixed in the mixing chamber. The resulting mixture is highly flammable. A flame is ignited at the torch tip and is sustained outside the torch tip.
Does the flame not migrate into the torch because the flame front velocity in the gas mixture is less than the gas velocity in the nozzle ?
Would this mean throttling the flow of gas while maintaining the mixing ratio beyond a certain limit dictated by the flame front velocity and torch tip diameter would inevitably lead to the flame propagating into the torch ?
Would this also mean controlling turbulence and the boundary layer inside the nozzle would allow to maximize the practical lower limit of gas velocity in the direction of the theoretical limit as outlined above ?

In most species, most animals grow up quickly and become adults in less than a few years.
Why does it take 2 fucking decades to turn a baby in a functional human being?
Is it because of brain size?
Is it somehow related to how large AI models take much more time to train?

Why are midwits so obsessed with the idea of nuclear energy when renewables have easily eclipsed them in nearly every way possible over a decade ago? Is it just the "i hecking LOVE science... stupid greenpeace hippies don't understand how safe nuclear is..." identity factor? Imagine spending over a decade to build a nuclear plant that costs 15x more than the equivalent amount of solar panels and battery capacity added together. There's a reason why neither China or the US does that at any real scale anymore.
Then when you point this out it's all "molten thorium small scale nuclear fusion reactors are just around the corner, just wait, they just need more funding," when you could just be developing solar and wind farms instead.
