What are your thoughts on this book? It’s short but seems comprehensive at first glance.

The other alternative is the free book by Keisler but that one is 1000 pages.

Ok so, stupid question but I want to be sure here.
If you have something in a sealed container with a molecular sieve and a humidity sensor, and the sensor is slowly dropping the material IS getting dryer right?
If something is in a sealed container with a desiccant and the humidity in the air is lower than the moisture content of the material, it will lose moisture, right?

Honestly, fuck this planet. Why would anyone want to go here? Why are people deluded enough to think that we could ever live or establish a colony on this dusty rock?
Nothing but rocks and sand, I hope you can make everything you need out of metal, ceramic and glass and don't need silly frivolities like rubber or plastic to, for example, insulate electrical wires. No you can't just shit in the dead martian dust and grow potatoes, that's bullshit, you need a functioning biosphere to grow plants, and even if you could grow something the cosmic radiation will fuck them up because of Mars' piss weak magnetic.
We'd need Star Trek levels of replicator technology to live on Mars. If you have sufficient technology to live on Mars you have sufficient technology to live indefinitely in space, or on Earth itself after fucking it up.
Fuck Mars

Hello /sci/. I kindly request your best resources on the science of physiognomy.
I noticed that very often facial features allow me to predict with high accuracy the political and moral orientation of a person. E.g. there seem to be distinct facial features immediately justifying a classification of a person as for example a BBC slut, a violent psychopath or a soiboi. I would like to make this classification more complete and more scientifically rigorous. Currently I'm lacking the necessary vocabulary to describe facial features though. Please share your best texts on the topic.
Thanks in advance.

THIS bird produces no other sound except unintelligible screech which remains always the same, there is no variation
All other vocal birds at least have bird song with weird stops and small alterations.
Who knows, a Great Tit might actually be communicating like this: 00011100, 0110110
Not so with swallow
He just literally screams to death any insect nearby and then picks it up as a food
What is the scientific basis on NOT having a varied bird song
🧵 Computers can not think
Anonymous at Sun, 2 Jun 2024 06:57:25 UTC No. 16205844
Computers don't actually perform linear algebra because linear algebra is a concept invented by mathematicians to describe certain patterns common to various algebraic theories of space. The people constantly trying to attribute human properties to machines consistently make category and ontology errors that they're not aware of until someone points it out for them. Computers can not think, computers execute programmed instructions and it's important to keep this in mind when discussing AI because it is fundamentally just software.

I know how to build human level AGI right now, with today's technology.
The costs exceed $100 mil, but are below $200 mil
Is there any chance I could get this funded, if I'm just some nobody? (Hypothetically, let's say I'm correct, and my method really does work, how can I get someone to backcheck it, to make sure it is legitimately a good attempt/design. Without them stealing the idea? I don't want to openly patent it, because then any country can swoop in and build it.)

Science says liberals, not conservatives, are psychotic
https://nypost.com/2016/06/09/scien
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi
Turns out liberals are the real authoritarians.
A political-science journal that published an oft-cited study claiming conservatives were more likely to show traits associated with “psychoticism” now says it got it wrong. Very wrong.
The American Journal of Political Science published a correction this year saying that the 2012 paper has “an error” — and that liberal political beliefs, not conservative ones, are actually linked to psychoticism.
“The interpretation of the coding of the political attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed,” the journal said in the startling correction.
“The descriptive analyses report that those higher in Eysenck’s psychoticism are more conservative, but they are actually more liberal; and where the original manuscript reports those higher in neuroticism and social desirability are more liberal, they are, in fact, more conservative.”
In the paper, psychoticism is associated with traits such as tough-mindedness, risk-taking, sensation-seeking, impulsivity and authoritarianism.
