🧵 UCLA professor being put on immediate leave because he is homeless

>Dr. Daniel McKeown is an astrophysicist who has been made homeless by the low pay working conditions of Academia. Currently, minimum wage workers in California would theoretically earn more than him in welfare gratuity.

Are forever chemicals and microplastics turning the humans trans? I'm dead serious. We know they fuck up the reproductive system of basically every living animal known to man and screws up hormone regulation. Could this actually be why transness is becoming more common? Of course such people always existed and have become more common as society has become more accepting of it, but I dont think it accounts for all of it

If an extremely massive body in otherwise perfectly empty space, hypothetically, suddenly vanished, would spacetime snap back to minkowski flat, or would it overcorrect and create moments of negative curvature?

We're born too early for the "good shit" discoveries in physics.
We can answer a lot of "whats" but almost no "whys". We don't know what the fuck is really going on inside particles. Wave-particle duality remains a mystery. We assume the Big Bang happened because the universe appears to be expanding, but have no answer for what it's expanding into or why it was so concentrated in the beginning. Spacetime is gimicky at best.
Einstein literally blew the field away by thinking up one of the most basic intuitions about the nature of existence, and that was just 120 years ago. We didn't even know black holes existed until 50 years ago.
There are basically no deeply satisfying discoveries in physics yet that really elucidate the nature of existence.
And now the field is in a deep freeze because 99% of people who can do long division without shitting themselves end up as programmers or excel monkeys, and this will continue for at least a few more decades.
FUCK.

If material objects are defined as following the rules of physics and mathematics, then mathematics must exist prior to material objects, as a thing cannot follow rules that don't yet exist. Is this valid logic?
