the end goal is autodesk merging with adobe and making their entire suite cloud based so It can't be pirated and you will have to pay 800 usd per month in a streaming app client like Stadia.

Daily reminder that making it as a 3D artist is knowing someone.

God bless nepotism.

I got my first junior job because I was friend with someone on discord that is friend of someone who was recommended him to some guy opening a newer website and needed 3D models.

Now I got to work making props for a website.

Thank god for nepotism.

🧵 Generating textures on base model.

Anonymous No. 887802

Is there a way to generate textures or UV maps with different combinations on a 3D model? Basically what people do in 2D for nft collections, only for a 3D object.

I want to create generic units with different colors and clothing for a bigger scene.

For example 3 different pants * 3 different helmet colors= 9 color variations of the same unit, same model with different textures.

🧵 Are props the cobol of 3D art?

Anonymous No. 887766

Is being an enviroment/props artist the redpilled form of 3D game art?

I mean, is not the sexiest job, and everyone wants to make gay waifus, furries, guns, cars, swords, sci fi ships and AAA characters.

But when you start to think, nobody wants to make the boring dull props, those pots, street signs, fences.
Is not sexy job, is not the job everyone wants to do.

But when you start to think, 98% of an entire game are props and enviroment art.

Sure, is not sexy, but for every game character, a game needs 100-200 fences, pots, street signs, broken walls, desks, etc.

So, seems there's an infinite demand for props in videogames, films, furniture magazines, ads, etc.
But the supply is much lower.

Am I correct?

Is there anything good besides Meshroom for converting greyscale bump maps into normal maps for weird raised designs on walls?

Meshroom is 90% good but I get weird artifacts around the edges of my normals that aren't there in my greyscale bump maps.

🧵 3D character design

Anonymous No. 887549

What makes a good design for a 3D character?

I know that all 2D concepts (readability, color theory, general knowledge etc) apply for say, a stylized character but the thing is: Would it be feasible, or practical in the 3D world? (Etc). Of course not all follow these specific rules. These were just examples

What are some interesting 3D characters, from a techincal or artistic standpoint? Do they translate well into the third dimension? What makes things appealing? Would you mind showing some of your own designs?

This is just more of a general purpose thread, hopefully it might interest some people and i don't really care if a Cris thread died for this.

🧵 Mini progen level editor for godot

Anonymous No. 887458

Been thinking of making a proc gen tool like material maker to generate roguelike maps, but you control the algorithm using basic settings windows.

Is there anything like this already made for godot?
I can't find shit about a basic houdini shit to generate kind of roguelikey maps that look like 2D rpg maker maps and procedurally generate enough variation like erosion in the walls, populate enemies, items and dors/locks.

Probabely there's a niche market for this shit, who knows.
I may even make some money from this, besides being a great tool for my own 2D games.
