š§µ Andrew Price: 3DCG's first eceleb?
Anonymous at Sun, 17 Jul 2022 19:30:03 UTC No. 908738
>says that his "coworkers" work on scenes for him, see pic related and the end of the abandoned house tutorial
>presumably he only teaches what's given to him, and doesn't actually create anything himself
>tries to pad his channel out with podcasts and other talks to make himself sound like a sophisticated industry veteran
>effectively sold himself out after buying into the nft meme
For how much Andrew talks about "the industry" and LARPs about being a seasoned professional, he seems to not care for Blender anymore and instead heavily eyes the money made from his videos. Is he the first person in 3DCG who can be filed as "eceleb trash"?

Anonymous at Sun, 17 Jul 2022 13:28:37 UTC No. 908682
so im just doing some video editing on sony vegas and i use after effects to rotoscope out an object and put it behind a green screen
then i import the rotoscoped out object into vegas and then i remove the green screen with the exact color that it is (using color picker) and doing that darkens that object and there doesnt seem to be a fix
using color corrector still isnt a fix and i have deleted the ae projects file and cant do the option where you render out a png video lmao

š§µ Why Maya is better than Blender...
Anonymous at Sun, 17 Jul 2022 04:24:39 UTC No. 908626
If you make money selling what you produce using Maya, then you can lease Maya on a daily, monthly or yearly basis. Currently (10.21.19), it runs $26.00 per day, $195.00 per month, or $1,545.00 per year.
So if you are pricing your project, and that project is due in 2 months, you might budget an extra month in there and say $600.00. Add in your time, materials, machine depreciation, etc and other costs and there you go!
BUT one may say, Blender is free! And that is true. But remember that aspect of TIME. The most valuable resource of the professional is their time. You have to budget the amount of time needed to LEARN the software to a professional level. I usually figure $50.00 per hour of my time. Can I learn Blender to the level that I know Maya in 12 hours?
No.
And Iāve been in 3D since the early 90s beginning with Strata Studio Pro and proceeding through Infini-D, Ray Dream Designer, Form Z, Electric Image, Lightwave, 3D Coat, Mudbox and ZBrush, so Iām used to learning new software.
For these reasons at this time, I consider Autodesk Maya worth the money.

š§µ Is Blender good for hobbyist endeavors
Anonymous at Sat, 16 Jul 2022 17:09:55 UTC No. 908544
This is more a subjective question.
After spending 2 years learning Maya at my university but pretty much failing rigging and lighting and barely passing animation, modeling and texturing, I pretty much have seen that I have a horribly flat learning curve. My college advisor recommend I go into the general field of my major, which is more tuned to design and vis dev art. I wanna experiment with 3D for other things rather than as a pro, as my college experience taught me my weak points. After scrolling through this board, it seems like anons have a disdain for Blender. But it all seems to be towards the Professional/Versatility aspect. But is Blender good for just side projects, experiments?

I'm fucking angry now watching grass in videogames.
>only yellow and shadow very simple stereotypes of hot weather grass usually as short leaves grasslands
>only a single type of the long bamboo type of grass in post apocalyptic games
>no bermuda type of grass
>no tall fern grass
>no buffalo grass sprouts
>no bryophytes on the stones
>no small bushes
>no weed flowers
>no zoyzia clumbs of grass
>no grass seeds or leaves
Playing videogames now physically trigger my grass and moss autism.
I want to physically murder now AAA game level artists.

Can you please help me with my opensource project. The source code is in the iso, in the git_repos_.zips. I got it to a state where it compiles and runs on newer mac OSX's.
It just errors on strlcpy.
The upstream of the engine, has not changed the code from what it's always been: they've dropped apple support or just haven't run the engine on apple in years (a decade maybe): if it compiles that's all the checking they'll do.
It works everywhere else including grsecurity-linux.
This project wasn't made alone, though in the recent years I've mostly been doing it myself.
But I cannot defeat OSX myself.
I don't have the willpower to become an apple fag.
I don't like the way they think or the way they corrupt open standards.
So I need collective action.
/g/ asked for an OSX binary.

š§µ I Quit
Anonymous at Fri, 15 Jul 2022 06:13:39 UTC No. 908312
I am quitting the industry, i have been a 3d modeler/sculptor for 10+ years, i've worked on many games making characters, tv/movie production making props, sometimes creatures, i've also worked for some time as an animator, I know all the major pipelines. for a major part of those 10 years i have worked as a freelancer and have never had a month with a client, even now that i am writing this i have two clients waiting for their characters to be completed and i cant take it anymore...
its not that i don't like 3d, hell its my hobby, i entered the industry with love for sculpting, its my passion. but i cant take it anymore.
i hate that i spend to much time sitting in front of a computer and i hate that i just go from fat to thin and back again for long periods of my life.
i am quitting and don't know exactly what i am going to do for my future. good bye bros, i hope you don't fall for the same trap i did. 3d should be just a hobby that its to monetize for a bit of time, and not a life career
