🧵 Why is it so difficult to animate hair?

Webm related. As soon as there is long hair, it looks like a big block of I-don't-know-what, even on modern platforms.

🧵 I feel like I'm a fraud when doing digital art especially 3D
Anonymous at Sat, 7 Jan 2023 05:46:14 UTC No. 932530
It feels like I'm jjust professionaly juggling 1s and 0s, and if world goest out of electricity, I'll be useless.
And mind you, I can do fine arts too. I can sculpt with clay, I can draw, I can paint, and design things with traditional tools, but it's not as high fidelity and quality as when I do 3D and digital stuff, cause I didn't devoid as much time to fine arts as I did for the digital cuckoldry.
I feel very useless, and like a fraud, even though I'm pretty good at what I do digitally.
🧵 Free model: Overwatch 2 Pharah for Blender
Anonymous at Sat, 7 Jan 2023 01:50:59 UTC No. 932506
This is a rigged model of Pharah from Overwatch made for Blender v3 and it includes the Overwatch 2 armor, lots of hairdos and outfits, bodymorph, outfits importing guide, update checker, poses library and a super simple UI that makes mixing and matching items a piece of cake.
Changelog and presentation website: https://pharah.gitlab.io/model/blen
PS: I wanted to post this in the Blender general but looks like it's gone

Are there any polygon-based modelling programs that would work well for someone who finds parametric modelling intuitive?
I've used Autodesk a bit for uni and found it very easy to learn, but upon opening Blender I was entirely lost. No toolbar or useful information panel, and none of the options I can click seem to have any real effect on the model. Most I've managed to do is pull individual corners of the cube around.
Any other options with a more clear workflow for someone who's used to dimensioned 2d sketch -> extruded solid -> modifying surface features?
🧵 Does "3D" modeling/animation have a future?
Anonymous at Fri, 6 Jan 2023 00:14:51 UTC No. 932350
5 - 8 years from now what will the 3D industry look like? If an AI can create an image that looks like it was rendered in 3D software like Maya etc. Then what would be the need for a 3D artist exactly? Whatever roles remained would be greatly reduced in capacity surely. 1 person could create a movie that looks like it was made by Pixar. You wouldn't need any of the art people at all. You guys see this coming right?

Why can't I get work? Why do I know more about 3D than 99% of my peers but still make less than them?
A lot of my work was trending on Reddit at some point, and I have made full commercials that a lot of people have told they use as reference in their work. I've shown my reel to many different professionals whom I admire and they said it was great and that it would stand out from other reels in any job I applied to.
Yet, despite learning Blender, Houdini and C4D, I still earn 20% of what this guy I've been chatting with earns by just doing Blender work.
People tell me I need to put myself out there but I don't know how. I already post all of my work in like 6 different websites every time I finish something, I have an instagram page, I'm active in many communities. Why am I still poor?

How viable is digital sculpting as main source of income, in your opinion?
Also, where does one start for entry level jobs, do you guys use Fiverr etc. same as we do? Is focusing on sculpting for 3d printing and so on worth it?
Currently learning Zbrush and Blender, any other software I should be aware of thats necessary? Is Substance Painter worth biting into?

I just can't figure it out. How do you rig a character that has full motion range in real time.
Blender has things like shape keys and drivers that are suppose to fix mesh in certain position but the problem is they overlap and cause a mess when you put it in other positions.
Like for example i set a shape key and a driver to activate on X rotation, so that when the leg moves forward it fixes the clipping at the hip. However when you put the leg to the side like pic related it also activates the driver because the X rotation is still around 93 degrees and causes a mess.
Was this never meant to be used for real time?

🧵 lmao how the fuck is Blender's texture mode still a thing?
Anonymous at Mon, 2 Jan 2023 14:18:53 UTC No. 931868
>make brush bigger and do a stroke - shit starts to choke
>brush over rounded area even with a really soft brush - sides get an ugly hard paint cut line
>move brush near the outer corners of the model - shit's lagging AND sprinkling color in the entire path that COULD POTENTIALLY have been SORT OF visible from that angle
>dare to move brush over parts that have cavities or are just in different distances from each other - shit's absolutely shitting the bed and needs to think for seconds after one brush stroke
The sculpt-paint mode that isn't texture based works really nicely and gives hope but the texture mode is such hot garbage I don't even know why they leave it in since it's so bad it basically is a reputation wrecking ball

🧵 My new 5 minute character workflow
Anonymous at Sun, 1 Jan 2023 18:29:44 UTC No. 931771
I spent almost five hours getting this new workflow.
But basically it's like 10 minutes of work, if at most it's like 5-6 minutes total of work.
And I generate this low poly mesh.
5 minutes and my new workflow generates this as first try.
Of course I need to improve it.
But, again, this new method takes 3-4 minutes.
