🧵 Drawing & animating physics and math
Anonymous at Mon, 1 Jul 2024 15:33:27 UTC No. 16262912
What assortment of tools would you use to draw graphs, surfaces, animate flow or motion of any kind? 3b1b (Grant Sanderson) popularized this with his youtube channel and I think it's a fantastic way to check one's understanding as he learns calculus/mechanics. What better way than to actually express the problem graphically with animations when possible? I'm however torn between the sheer number of tools at my disposal. I've listed a few with what I think are their pros and cons and would appreciate any input, especially if something should be on the list and it's not.
1) P5JS
Pros:
Can be embedded seamlessly in HTML.
Low learning curve.
Big community with lots of resources.
There is actually a self-contained book that shows how to model physical systems using P5JS
>https://natureofcode.com/
Cons:
Not ideal for 3d, I'd have to look somewhere else for anything multivariable calculus.

As a physics student, I just failed linear algebra for the second year in a row
I somehow got a B in calculus and physics though
I hate this university more than you can imagine
I'm already 2 years behind because of linear algebra
the professor is a 65 year old shitter
I keep telling myself that studying for a year or two longer isn't a problem, and that I'm going to miss it after it's done
The only alternative that seems interesting is pilot school, but I'd hate to be home once a month in the future

🧵 Scientists Stunned by Discovery of Canine-Generated Cosmic Phenomenon - The Doggosphere
Anonymous at Mon, 1 Jul 2024 11:38:00 UTC No. 16262733
In a groundbreaking study published in this month's issue of AstroPaws Journal, a team of researchers has made the astonishing claim that the collective brainpower of the world's canine population is generating a previously unknown, planet-encircling energy field - dubbed the "Doggosphere".
According to lead researcher, Dr. Rufus T. Barkowski, "Our team has detected a peculiar pattern of energetic fluctuations, emanating from the interconnected neural networks of dogs across the globe. This 'doggosocial' energy signature is concentrating at a stationary Lagrange point, akin to a gravitational sweet spot, between the Earth's exonosphere and thermosphere."
The Doggosphere, estimated to be approximately 10,000 km in diameter, is believed to be sustaining an immense, toroidal (doughnut-shaped) structure that's warping the ionosphere and inducing subtle, yet measurable, effects on our planet's magnetic field.
Utilizing advanced, satellite-based spectrometers, the research team observed a distinct red shift in the radiation patterns emitted by the Doggosphere, indicating an intense release of energy as the canine collective consciousness "cools" and condenses into a coherent, global-scale phenomenon.
"The refraction patterns we're seeing are simply remarkable," exclaimed Dr. Sophia P. Pawsalot, a co-author on the study. "The Doggosphere is literally bending the fabric of our planet's electromagnetic environment, creating localized distortions that are modulating the dispersion of solar winds and influencing upper-atmospheric circulation patterns."

🧵 Phase Change Material In A Mini-Fridge?
Anonymous at Mon, 1 Jul 2024 07:11:34 UTC No. 16262546
Anon-kun, I have a mini fridge with no freezer compartment, it is fridge only. Say I were to fill the fridge 1/3 of the way up with a PCM with a melting point of say, 38 degrees Fahrenheit (3.33C) and then set the fridge temp to 35 degrees Fahrenheit (1.66C) would the overall temp of the fridge drop below the initial 35F as the PCM absorbs heat from it's surroundings as it reaches it's melting point of 38F? I would imagine the constant melting/freezing of the PCM would have the compressor running far more regularly but the overall temp of the fridge would be lower would it not?

Let's say tomorrow scientists can prove without a doubt that different popualtions of humans can be smarter or more dumb based on genetics. How would that change anything? Wouldn't we still behave tomorrow the same way we would've before? It would confirm certain people's suspicions but other than that society would keep moving forward in the same direction it is today? It might be a little harder to ask for more money for public education I must admit. But other than that I fail to see what difference it would really make.

Anonymous at Mon, 1 Jul 2024 03:34:57 UTC No. 16262376
I have a room on the north side with windows looking due north and I can see the sun rise and set from my window, casting the light on the opposite wall, as seen in pic related. This confuses me because I always thought the south side of a building got the sun. But here I am on the north side and I see the sun. Of course this is happening around the equinox so I figure it might have to do with that, but I can't figure out why.

🧵 Could you be born as a cat? Or in another planet?
Anonymous at Mon, 1 Jul 2024 03:29:27 UTC No. 16262369
You are alive now, but you are a human, and you have consciousness.
Is it possible that someone wasn't born as a human, but rather as another animal like a cat?
Putting in another perspective, do you think cats realize they are cats?
A similar question, could you be born on another planet?
I mean, you exist now and you are alive on this planet.
What prevents consciousness to be born on another habitable planet?
