Can science do something to prevent greying of my hair?
𧡠(I am not a robber) What would happen if you put radioactive material in a city's water supply?
Anonymous at Fri, 5 Jul 2024 15:23:53 UTC No. 16269031
It just happened in Brazil that a truck transporting radioactive material for a nuclear power plant was hijacked. We don't know what the material is yet but there are some pictures here: https://www.gov.br/cnen/pt-br/assun
I was thinking, what would happen if the robbers had malicious intent and wanted to cause as much damage as possible? Could they wipe an entire city by putting this in the water source?
(I am obviously not the robbers asking for advice I am just thinking hypothetically)

Science friends I need to share a story with you.
>be at friends house sitting outside in his garden
>friend talks about having GI issues like diarrhea
>tell him it's probably food intolerance, can try activated charcoal until he's got it figured out
>friend gets up and picks up charcoal lying next to his grill and fucking eats it
>he exclaims with 'it's basically the same'
>say nothing and let him eat the charcoal
was this the right choice?

What's the point of LED lamps being energy efficient if the efficiency is being used to shine brighter than standard and not cheaper at standard brightness?
Today there was still an hour of sun and a bit cloudy, one malfunctioning lamp was already lit, the light was more bothersome than the clearly visible daylight. How the fuck is this acceptable? How come nobody seems to complain about this?

What's the coolest Science shit you can do without lots of money and education? I want to make new species, and maybe convert myself into fungi with horizontal gene transfer or something idk. Is that possible without expensive equipment?

>if you put 1 germ that divides itself in a jar, and then each copies also divides itself, you will fill that jar in one hour
>If you have two separate jars with one germ each, you will have two jars filled, which is 200% in one hour
>But if you put two germs in one jar, you will fill one jar in 59 minutes, saving only 1 minute
>If one extra minute passed, and there was enough space in the jar, you would have the equivalent of 59 minutes of these germens twice, but not twice the equivalent of 60 minutes which represents 200%
Why.
