πŸ—‘οΈ 🧡 What the fuck is going on?

Anonymous No. 16237853

There was a story recently going something like "HARVARD SAYS ALIENS ARE CURRENTLY LIVING AMONG US" and it was actually just a paper submitted by one of the students that immediately got failed.

But I was checking on the news sites reporting it and was expecting it to be something like /sci/ schizo comments about this proving how much of a joke academia is or something along that line what with the commenters there being largely middle aged right-wing American dads.
It was so much worse.
They were defending it bro, hundreds of comments, they were like "the government is trying to silence these young men!" and sharing their alien "experiences". The most tame comments were that this is a government pysop to distract from something something.

Bro the paper was talking about fucking faeries and alternate dimensions inside it.

A gas company wants to pay me to say that CO2 emissions make plants grow bigger and healthier, and they also asked me to not talk about from the obvious cons of ecological damage from CO2 emissions and the billions they've spent to cover it up. What should I do?

🧡 Turing testing AI

Anonymous No. 16237713

Recent arXiv paper on Turing tests of language models
(https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.08007) judges thought it was human 54% of the time when talking to an AI
But thought it was human 67% of the time with real humans
So like a 13% difference, these AIs are getting pretty human-like.
Models still not perfect but gap is closing as they get better training data and code
Kinda unnerving or just progress? Thoughts from /sci/?

🧡 Can You Increase Gravity on Earth Without Going up in a Plane?

Anonymous No. 16237115

Bruce Lee is stated to have only been squatting with 94 pounds, but doing the reps as fast as possible to build up his speed. This seems pretty BS, because even I can notice that my squat speed is about the same without a bar and with a bar loaded to 135. The only way to be able to do this would be if you could somehow increase gravity. There may be some sort of nervous system reaction going on to keep me from squatting any faster that I'm unaware of, though.

🧡 Freeman Dyson says global warming is fake

Anonymous No. 16236727

Renown astrophsycist & mathematician Freeman Dyson was certain that global warming is fake. Dyson's resumΓ© is impeccable, a professor at The Institute for Advanced Study, noteworthy and important contributions to number theory, quantum mechanics, nuclear power as well as climate science, which he studied and contributed to for half a century

Here's a video of him saying global warming is fake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mmI6DorL_Y

Here he is saying its fake in writing
https://www.edge.org/conversation/heretical-thoughts-about-science-and-society
>My first heresy says that all the fuss about global warming is grossly exaggerated. Here I am opposing the holy brotherhood of climate model experts and the crowd of deluded citizens who believe the numbers predicted by the computer models. Of course, they say, I have no degree in meteorology and I am therefore not qualified to speak. But I have studied the climate models and I know what they can do. The models solve the equations of fluid dynamics, and they do a very good job of describing the fluid motions of the atmosphere and the oceans. They do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry and the biology of fields and farms and forests. They do not begin to describe the real world that we live in. The real world is muddy and messy and full of things that we do not yet understand. It is much easier for a scientist to sit in an air-conditioned building and run computer models, than to put on winter clothes and measure what is really happening outside in the swamps and the clouds. That is why the climate model experts end up believing their own models.
