🧵 Can a molecule absorb two photons at the same time?
Anonymous at Thu, 17 Oct 2024 02:54:21 UTC No. 16435651
The Stark-Einstein principle confuses me.
Suppose that an H2 molecule (with one stretching degree of liberty) is excited by a photon in the infrarred range of the spectrum, making the H-H bond stretch. At the same time, it is excited by a photon in the microwave range of the spectrum, making it rotate.
Is this possible?
Same goes to the hydrogen atom. Suppose that it is excited by one photon with enough energy to take the electron to orbital 2s and another photon so energetic that the electron reaches an unbound state and is taken to infinite. What happens them?
Is there some form of weird coupling if two photons were to try and excite a molecule at the same time?

but most important
>irrational fear

I'm 27 and male. I was overweight at the start of the year and for years before that and after reading that 1500 calories is a good diet for weight loss in men I started ditching sugary foods like fizzy drinks and chocolate and in March I started counting my calories. I've been eating between 1400 and 1600 calories daily and now I have lost so much weight to the point I am underweight and I have severe back pains and hardly any fat in my back, stomach, legs, arms and buttocks. I'm aware that I'm underweight but I can't resist counting calories including putting milk in a measuring cup to count the calories and sticking to 1500-1600 calories and if a food has no calories on it then I can't eat it. I also felt depressed because last month I ate three slices of chocolate cake on my birthday spread over a week and I felt depressed because I ate a chocolate chip cookie one day. I also have uncontrollable urges to jog instead of just walking, is this connected? Do I have anorexia?

And what are the implications of this?
Does this imply that the probability of an object being found at various locations spreads out evenly over time, like heat does in matter? That doesn't seem right, as everything doesn't seem to be approaching equal likelihood to be found anywhere in the universe.
And would there then be a sort of "probability diffusivity coefficient" equal to -(h/2mi) in units of m^2 per second?

I mean he's definitely onto something. We know Empires have existed way north of 100,000 years. There are monuments that already existed before the Egyptians and etc. Aztec and Mayan mythology explicitly states things that natural occurrences that were accurate to historical cataclysms, regional or worldwide. China also has something similar the only thing being similar is the "mass flooding" event. It's universally accepted in majority of myths and legends of different human races.

>If a chemical reaction does not happen, the atoms remain as they were, with no change in how they are connected. Reactants like hydrogen and oxygen gases will not combine to form a new product such as water, and will stay as separate gases.
>When a chemical reaction does not occur, the atoms of the two substances don't change how they are connected.
>They remain the same, just like they were before.
>For example, if you have hydrogen and oxygen, but they don't react to make water, they stay as hydrogen gas and oxygen gas.
>In a chemical reaction, we use a word equation to describe what happens. For instance, when hydrogen reacts with oxygen, the word equation is hydrogen + oxygen water. The things that we start with, like hydrogen and oxygen, are called reactants. When there isn't a reaction, these reactants don't turn into anything else;
>they just stay as they are without forming a new substance, which would be the product.
