🧵 LightWave 3D is BACK

Anonymous No. 942456

Dear LightWave Community,

LightWave 3D is a proven, Emmy award-winning modelling, animation and render program, with a legion of followers and dedicated users such as yourselves. At Vizrt Group we have been looking for a home that offers the commitment and the enthusiasm it deserves.

With over 30 years in the animation and FX industry, Andrew Bishop and his team have now stepped forward to acquire LightWave 3D under the name LightWave Digital. Some of you may know Andrew from his VFX work and bringing LightWave 3D to UK and European market alongside handling distribution in the UK.

We did not make this decision lightly. The desire has always been to ensure LightWave 3D has a future with a team that has a strong desire to breathe new life into the technology, bring more value to users, and usher in the next generation of 3D graphics for film, animation, and VFX.

We are certain under this ownership; Andrew and his team will deliver this and more. As our transaction with Andrew and his team finalizes, more information will be shared.

For now, the new team can be contacted through this Discord channel here.

So in 2011 I contacted my uncle and I sucked his cock or something so he gave me money to develop gaem in hava and now we release on the Steam.

Is this how it is to work in the industry these days? Is this the future you chose?

I don't have that many finished "portfolio pieces (scripts)" for my first job as a TD, - only 2-3 and they each took me a long time to write and debug - but I know a lot of languages and softwares. The only place hiring near me is AAA. I can't freelance because of the instability and having to do much more complicated taxes. What do I do? Apply anyway or wait? The 2-3 pieces I have are quite strong. Everything else I have has lost its relevance.

Plasticity is out of beta and is being shilled on the socials. Got me interested in trying out CAD concepting again. Anyone used the thing? Looks a little autismy than moi or fusion.

Not piratable yet, but the demo isn't too limited so i'll probably grab it later.

I want to create a 3d animation based off a picture of someone else's 3d text to make it look like it's being handwritten. I can already do this with typed text or text I I write myself but I want to do it from text from photos. Is there a way to do this in geometry nodes or otherwise?

In 2018, Andrew Price made predictions about how AI will change the industry.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlgLxSLsYWQ
Aside from pic related, Andrew made some other predictions:
>Procedural workflows will become standard
>Creative assistance from machines
Now that it's 2023, for those of you working in the 3D industry, has anything significant for you changed since 2018? Have you seen a cut in jobs or more use of AI and machine learning?

🧵 Clothing in games

Anonymous No. 942139

Ok fuck it, I'm making a thread, let's discuss this shit. Gamedev/character artist (hobbyist) reporting in.

It's been a few months now that I've been switching between Marvelous Designer/Clo3D and Zbrush trying to make nice looking (semi-stylized) clothes in these softwares but I can't reach the look I want to have on my characters. I'm particularly struggling on making a Gakuran (male studen japanese uniform).

With Zbrush:
> Clothes general shapes are off or very hard to get righ
> Looks too clayish
> Tedious as fuck

With MD/Clo3D
> Very little control on the style of the cloth
> Folds are generated "randomly" -> no control on the folds
> Shape depends on the character model not on the pattern of the clothing

In the end, I dislike both of them. Well I dislike both of them on their own. The most experienced of you are going to say "Well duh, you can't use MD or Zbrush alone for clothes, you make the base in MD and the details on Zbrush". But how do I cope with the ridiculous amount of MD/Clo3D "intermediate/advanced" tutorials?
So I'm asking here. How do you do it? Any tips to share ? Anything that changed your life in doing clothing? Should I use MD anyway?

Top row is default, bottom row is patched.
I wanted to get rid of that defect (pinch) you can see on the inside of 90° bends specifically.
Pic related is what I've got so far. I'll add more details later.

All I want is to make an object always face the viewport view.

Basically this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzNpenHFumA
but object facing viewport view, not a "Camera" that you can add to the scene

I was trying Tracking Constraints but can't put the viewport view as a "Target"

Create a "Camera", check the "Align camera to view" box and look through it will not work for me

Send help

Does drawing 2D (grinding to get good skill) on paper with help you do 3d and im not just talking human anatomy but robots and buildings and everything else? I'm a hobbyist generalist, been doing this since 2011. I've been drawing here and there and buying drawing materials recently, but I find that I can't design (actually design) nearly as well as stable diffusion so what I do is just use SD for ref and then try to change the camera angle in 2D with drawing and then translate this into 3d later.

Is this about right? Will this help me do 3d? I find doing a lot of 3d stuff like sculpting, grooming, texturing, simulation, etc can be really really slow
