I need to get into the game industry. Should
I focus on unity or unreal?
I have a 12900k and a 3060 12gb. I cant upgrade to a 40 series at this time.
I figure I need to create and import character animations and then build them up with in game vfx and control them with button presses.

Not sure if this is the right board to ask, but are there any good cheap/free 3d design software for modeling home projects like furniture or industrial parts. I have experience with SolidWorks, but it's a little too pricey for me and my free license ran out

I really suck at UV's.
I've been getting by with using blender's smart UV project thing but I never fully understood how to do it manually or do it well.

Houdini can save the position of material nodes, yes, and yet, prman support in Houdini is far below maya's, making it less than ideal for this wanderer to render in.

Are there any communities left for SFM animators? I want to get into it and learn to use it but I feel like I've missed my window. Every tutorial I find is 6 years old and refers me to dead links and I can't find any active communities to ask specific questions.

How long do You spend in the planning phase before you begin the 3d process? For me, I often dont spend enough, and I go straight to 3d, and I end up with garbage

How do I save an image to the alpha channel of another image in blender?
In photoshop, I'd have to open it up and then copy paste the map into the alpha channel by hand. I don't wanna do this a hundred different times by hand.
If I generate a roughness map, how do I save it to the alpha channel of another image texture that I already have INSIDE blender?
