I want to make creepy, primitive-looking characters. Not monsters that are scary on purpose, just weirdly unpleasant things. My theory is if I design a bunch of characters with this look but have a much nicer, friendlier-looking player character in comparison, the game will stand out.
What's the secret to this delicate balance?

Can I get a QRD on platforms with best legal protections?
I look at cults and their commercial license looks fucking retarded (left of pic). Buyers are allowed to just print your shit and distribute themselves (with attribution)? Fuck that.
myminifactory has protections, but has a subscription fee for sellers and also exclusivity terms.
Should I post my free stuff on cults and paid stuff on MMF?
Or just abandon cults altogether despite the additional exposure stream?
Kickstarters? Patreon?
I hate the idea of being beholden to terminally online slobs, but the income stream is tempting and I realise the benefit of people not being fucked cancelling subs.
Lastly, if I avoid the whole patreon pandering shit, what is the best platform for people to support my work in one off tips? Don't say the buy me a coffee thing - it sounds stupid.

Is there a piece of 3d modeling software that's good for use on laptops that are too weak to run blender? I don't expect to do anything fancy like uv wrapping or sculpting, but being able to have the equivalent of the object/edit mode would be great to have on the road. I'd like to be able to run a light program to rough out stuff to refine later on at home. Is there something like that?
t. currently trying to use blender while waiting for a couple hours now and it crashes every other edit because this laptop is a decade old
🧵 Material Maker
Anonymous at Fri, 4 Oct 2024 18:05:17 UTC No. 997322
Holy shit I love this program! Sure it sucks, but it's amazing! I thought it's like 1/10 of Substance Designer but in reality it's more like it's 7/10 of Substance Designer + dozen of features and workflows SD doesn't have + ability to implement new and customize any existing nodes directly using shader code. Even though its UI has some slightly stupid feel to it and nowhere as smooth as SD, it's just conceptually way better because of its open-endedness with shader code and additional features, so I only consider it the right decision to switch to Material Maker and maybe even try to support it anyhow, either by donating or sharing nodes or whatever. I also expected this UI clumsiness to make it way slower to use than SD but in reality, because unlike SD it has all node properties directly on node itself (and not hidden in a pane that is only showed when you select the node), it's kinda compensated and in general its' quite fast to use. It sucks ofc that sometimes undo/redo does work and sometimes not, and some curves are weirdly saved if you choose to click somewhere inaapropriate instead of ok/cancel, but honestly this is all minor stuff. It really works, and enables nice new workflows and is quite productive. I really enjoy all those features, like export nodes for example because I can autoexport a whole set of textures based on some core texture.
