šŸ§µ The 12-6 elbow, mohawk and Chael Sonnen

Anonymous No. 158815

1/2
There is a controversy about whether or not should 12-6 elbow be legal. Chael Sonnen said why, in his opinion, it shouldn't https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye79NA2cLn8

He says that you mustn't hit the part of the skull called mohawk and points his fingers on the top and back of his head. But are strikes to the top of the head actually banned? I tried to find info about it and I found this quote
>The Committee has found a compromise between the Mohawk definition and the headphones definition. The Committee recommends a nape of the neck definition.

>Basically, the group concluded that a strike that touches the ear is generally acceptable. Strikes are not permissible in the nape of the neck area up until the top of the ears. Above the ears, permissible strikes do not include the Mohawk area from the top of the ears up until the crown of the head. The crown of the head is found where the head begins to curve.

>In other words, strikes behind the crown of the head and above the ears are not permissible within the Mohawk area. Strikes below the top of the ear are not permissible within the nape of the neck area.

Picrel is how do I understand this quote (assuming that strikes to carotid artery are legal because I didn't find any info about them being illegal). Most of the upper head, including the part struck by Jon Jones when he got dq'd is a legal zone. But this is a different understanding than what Chael says which puts me in an uncomfortable situation where I'm arguing with a pro mma fighter about how does mma work.

Then he says that strikes to the "mohawk" are banned "for good scientific reason; soft spot and some other stuff" but is soft spot on the top of the head really a thing? I know babies have it but adults? If you headbutt someone's nose, chin or even forehead with the top of your head he'll get hurt rather than you.

šŸ§µ Training MMA on the road

Anonymous No. 158807

Iā€™m a solar technician who works on the road a lot. I recently started training mma and I want to eventually start fighting but with inconsistencies in where Iā€™ll be that complicates things; do most mma gyms allow out of towners train for a few weeks at a time? And how would that affect my overall performance/ability? Anyone else done this?

>Who is this for?
Anyone interested in sailing, or anyone that currently sails and wants more information.

>Should I get into sailing?
If you're by a body of water that you can sail on, why not?

>How?
Look into local sailing associations, or yacht clubs. Oftentimes they have memberships that are wallet friendly, and allow access to their fleet of day sailers, or allow you to crew on racing vessels

>How do I buy a sailboat?
Great question - hopefully this general takes off and people will share their experience

Anonymous No. 158622

I've heard Michael Chandler being called fake by multiple fighters during my time as an MMA fan.

I follow him on YouTube and he only seems to be putting out knowledgeable takes and motivational advice. Him putting on a "nice guy act" is just a strange assumption to me.

Also, as a person who trains muay thai and bjj, he is the fighter that I try to channel and emulate because of his toughness and explosiveness he's demonstrated time and time again.

FAQ on buying a bike that nobody reads anyway:
> What good bike can I get for under $500?
a stolen bike. Possibly a newer used entry level hardtail but don't expect it to survive rock gardens, jumps, or drops. Or an older mtb which won't be as good as newer ones and will still have a front derailleur, but it'll be good enough.
> What good bike can I get for under $1000
Good used hardtail, new entry level hardtail
> What good bike can I get for under $2000?
New Hardtail, decent used full suspension
> What good bike can I get for under $3000?
Used full suspension, decent entry level full suspension but prepared to put more money into it.
> What are the excellent value brands?
Marin, Commencal, Canyon, Polygon, YT, Propain, Kona, and many more. Sometimes the expensive brands have an excellent value bike
> What are the differences between an XC, Trail, Enduro, and Downhill bikes?
XC bikes are for going up fast, go down not as fast. Trail bikes are for going up and down. Enduro bikes are for going down fast, and slower up. Downhill bikes are for going down really fast, needs a ski lift, truck, or the rider pushing it to go up.

Why is nobody talking about the side naked choke if it's "very much a thing"? Royce Gracie did something similar to Ken Shamrock but according to Wikipedia it was just rnc

šŸ§µ parkour circumvalation

Anonymous No. 158224

Is there anyone who has done this\tried this? I think I just invented the concept; travelling the world, or a country, or a big distance (300KM or more) but abiding to certain rules\regulations such as: Only moving in handstand pose, or doing long jumps, or rolling or doing backflips. Every time you come across a monkey gym in a public park, spend 30 minutes doing calisthenics.
How can we create a formal challenge\set of rules for this? I think it could be a pretty fun challenge

What would happen if you only trained one move? One strike, one takedown, one choke, one something. Just only trained ONE thing. Like, who would win:
>Fighter who only trained elbows for 10 years
vs
>MMA fighter who's done 3-5 years of BJJ and standard boxing

ufc1.jpg

šŸ§µ If early ufc still existed, it would be dominated by wrestlers and maybe also submission grapplers

Anonymous No. 157763

Typical fight would probably look like this
>striking for a while
>someone gets taken down and catches the other one in guard
>the guy on top punches and headbutts the guy on bottom to wear him down
>after very long time the top guy passes the guard and submits the bottom guy or knock him out with punches and stomps

Bjj guys would survive this but they would need to learn how not to end up on the bottom or how to submit someone from bottom guard while getting headbutted.

Strikers would more doomed because they would need to learn how to grapple better than they can do it now because now they can just hold the grappler until the round ends. They would also need to learn how not to break their hands from bare knuckle punching like Gerard Gordeau.

But remember that biting and eye gouging were illegal in ufc 1. If we removed these 2 rules, they would either become unwritten rules because civilized humans just don't do it or the fights would be very short, ABSOLUTELY dominated by wrestlers and look more or less like this
>striking for a while
>someone gets taken down
>the guy on top submits the bottom guy with eye gouging

šŸ§µ Size does matter. But how much?

Anonymous No. 157556

Is there any mathematical formula that helps you to guess your chances against a similarly experienced opponent who is x% heavier or lighter than you?

Also, how does it vary in different combat sports? Does weight matter more in boxing than in MMA or BJJ or vice versa? Is it true that +1 BJJ belt is like +10 lbs in a fight?
