On the subject of piracy I wanna know something if you guys maybe could help me out.
If I'm using pirated software to export the final meshes and textures with Maya and substance painter, will I run into any trouble if I try to sell them?
Can I even expect to make any money selling props and packs online?
I'm talking ubisoft like quality props, is it profitable at all?

The thing is I don't really know where to go with the skills I have, I am skilled, but I don't have any online presence at all, I got into 3d modeling almost 7 years ago and I quit my wagie bottom of the barrel job 2 months ago hoping to have more time to dedicate to 3d even though I've been scraping by and sacrificing a lot along the way, I don't have any money to buy licenses or new computer parts, and I'm very hesitant to apply to companies or freelancing due to me using pirated software, also because I'm not American or close to any major city and I'm pretty sure companies won't sponsor a visa because I don't have a degree.

pic is indicative of my skills right now.

🧵 What 3D modelling program is shown in this video

So I was watching this video, and theres this 3D modelling program mentioned which can generate human faces and is shown in the video with a very weird interface. What is this shown in this video? I have never seen something like this before.

It starts from 8:30, where supposedly an 3D modelling program can generate an human face from composities and other sources

🗑️ 🧵 I CAN COMPILE ON OSX. AND LINK. AND THE MENU DISPLAYS. CRASHES ON OPENGL

Anonymous No. 906194

Hi.
The compile now completes.
And links.
Thanks to linux user help from the SDL Discord.
On OSX.
The binary runs.
The menu shows up.
The maps are listed.
The 2d gfx are there.

Once you try to load a map the application crashes and Apple gets sent a report: which they have to read.

So all it can do is annoy indians from india right now; and show you what maps you could play if the opengl wouldn't crash.

What do?
Then there is a huge error I pasted to pastebin.
But I cannot find it as pastbin isn't searchable even with google (would have to turn the mac back on as I saved it there).

I then installed gdb, and had to run through hoops to get "ggdb" signed and allowed to control other proccesses.

I didn't trace the error yet tho: I stopped.
The thing compiles and runs.
Won't let you not crash doing anything 3d yet.
The error talks about coca or something like that? A drug apple users used to do until they joined FAGMAN corps and cut their dick and balls off? Did the drugs make them open to that?

Anyway: Anyone know what to do now?
How do I get it not to crash when I load a 3d map? Once it has to render OpenGL it crashes. Even the loading screen to load a map (ie you say : load this map; crash immediatly)

The Linux SDL user Petruska helped me get to this stage: no relation to Putin's 3rd in command.

🧵 How can I fix this?

Anonymous No. 906075

So, long story short. I spent the better half of this month working on a project that I was contracted to. It involved mostly hard surface modeling, creating props, texturing stuff. No rigging or animating things.

I wrapped it all up last weekend and took a well deserved break. This week, I sat myself down to sculpt a character because I had nothing else to do. What followed was depressing and bugs me out.

I spent the whole week so far trying to sculpt and rig but everything has been off. The anatomy was shit, my retopo is absolute garbage and the subsequent rigging was shit. I kinda feel burnt out that not practicing stuff for a month sort of messed me up this bad. I messed up the retopo too like normal stuff that I'd remember like connecting the arm to the shoulders or the webbing between fingers.

Do I have to relearn the basics all over again? It's like my mind is blank and I cant even blockout a normal character without my brain saying it looks shit now. I keep finding these imperfections and get discouraged. How can I fix this?

How do I pull off the 2.5D look in a game engine like Unity? I'm assuming the backgrounds are planes of pixel art with transparency?
And the player moves in X + Y(Unity's Vertical is Y) directions.
Would it just be simpler if I sculpted a 3d character, retopo'd and rendered the directional movements and used it as Sprite sheet? Instead of drawing and animating planes?

If pulling off pixel art 2.5D is more difficult than normal 2.5D, then I'd avoid it. I'm looking to make a metroidvania platformer.

rigging nonsense.png

Rigging and weight painting are such memes.
It's clear that blender developers never finished the weight painting tools.
-The shortcut keys for weight painting are different than all the other keys in the program, making them counter intuitive.
-You have to change the weight manually. You can't just invert the weight with a simple key press. Even though inverting weights works fine in sculpting mode.
-You can't edit vertices while the character is posed.
-The shitty heat map colors make it hard to see.
-X-ray doesn't actually make the mesh invisible. It just slightly recolors the wireframe.
-Weight painting doesn't acknowledge the mirror modifier, so any brush strokes done on the mirror side pass through. And if the brush passes through, then it ends up coloring the backside of your mesh, usually in a spot you don't even want touched.
-One of my center bones were slightly askew when I parented, so now the weights are drawn off center, and any attempt to fix it, improperly mirrors, so I can never set it right unless I un-parent and re-parent, essentially removing all my weights.
-I don't even know what the fuck is happening to the knees. They broke apart now, when before they were fine. All the weights look ok, but it just breaks.

It's crazy, because blender is such a powerful program in some ways, and then in other ways, it's like I'm using a program from the 1980s. Can someone help me make sense of this. Is there a must-watch tutorial that will solve my problems?

🧵 I'm new to 3D. Which program do I learn for anime?

Anonymous No. 905694

I'm newfag to 3D. I just want to make anime girls dance like idolm@ster games on stage with lightshow and video in BG and grafitti falling and glowstick crowd cheering etc.

which program do I need to learn to do this? Is Blender good or is it shit compared to other programs?
I don't have time to waste here learning faggot software, I want to get results fast.

Most of the tutorials for cell shading anime are on fucking BLENDER, but I keep see /3/ saying blender sucks.

I researched what they used for Idolm@ster games. They used 3DS MAX biped, mocapped the dance animation with some black suite with white cum balls all over it. Edited it together in motion builder and copy and pasted it to all the other rigged skeletons and offset it. They also seemed to use some crowd generator in 3DS MAX. I think one of the idolm@ster games were done in MAYA. But I translated alot of Japanese articles and people generally want to kamikaze autodesk cause they fucked softimage japan's favorite software but now alot of them say "3DS MAX feels like home, but we're forced to use MAYA now..."

They also used UNITY3D engine for their lipsync to the songs lyrics and to edit the videos with. WHAT? How the fuck do you edit 3D video with Unity3D I thought. I found out it has some weird timeline thing and is actually really useful to make movies with, you import your models and animations then rig the cameras around in REALTIME it doesnt take years to render like boomer 3D software. They also do the skirt and hair physics in UNITY3D with some springbones or something.

in unity3D there is also unitychan and her dancestage. I basically want to make something like that or an idolm@ster mirishite or deresute game style preferrably.

Should I use BLENDER to try and do this? Create anime models, mocap, transfer to rigs, anime facial expressions, texture, or should I go for something like Zbrush / Substance painter, 3DS MAX, Motion Builder, and Unity3d? I just want to make anime idols dance.
