If I want to 3D model buildings for fun, should I bother learning Blender or just use some archvis software? I'd prefer to avoid the slog of learning Blender's shit interface/workflow if possible.
Can standard archvis software do somewhat more fantastical shapes like picrel pretty easily, or will it be a hassle to get anything other than boxy strip malls and office blocks?

🧵 Nvidia has sealed our fates

Anonymous No. 947846

>Neuralangelo’s ability to translate the textures of complex materials — including roof shingles, panes of glass and smooth marble — from 2D videos to 3D assets significantly surpasses prior methods. The high fidelity makes its 3D reconstructions easier for developers and creative professionals to rapidly create usable virtual objects for their projects using footage captured by smartphones.
>Neuralangelo is one of nearly 30 projects by NVIDIA Research to be presented at the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), taking place June 18-22 in Vancouver. The papers span topics including pose estimation, 3D reconstruction and video generation.
>Huang announced NVIDIA Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) for Games, a foundry service developers can use to build and deploy custom AI models for speech, conversation and animation. It will give non-playable characters conversational skills so they can respond to questions with lifelike personalities that evolve.

Is unreal engine for animation the best workflow?
I mean it does it in real time and there's a ton of animations available. Unless you need something fancy.

Why is modeling a structure like pic related so hard to do with good topology? Did I get filtered? It's essentially a dome with 4 sides chopped off. But still. Can you do it?

🧵 I made 2D anime with blender.

Anonymous No. 947704

Today I decided to spent the entire day cracking the workflow for anime girls that look like real 2D shit on blender 3.1 (because snap still doesnt have 3.5 yet).

I think It came pretty nice for like 6 hours of work in like a single try in the first day.

Seems my idea of combining grease pencil with 3D and toon shading to actually work just fine, if you kept no interpolation and make everything look 2D.

There's some details I could had worked more, like the freestyle here.
But Most of what I wanted wasn't a top tier render, but more like figuring out the workflow and more or less understand the steps needed to make anime with blender that actually look 2D.

🧵 Piracy, how to avoid getting caught?

Anonymous No. 947636

I make video games and there's just no way I'm paying for adobe + zbrush + illustrator + photoshop. I understand you can get caught if you did contract work with a big company and they snitch on you. But what about releasing your own stuff? Is there anything in the files that will reveal you pirated?

I need to get into the game industry. Should
I focus on unity or unreal?

I have a 12900k and a 3060 12gb. I cant upgrade to a 40 series at this time.

I figure I need to create and import character animations and then build them up with in game vfx and control them with button presses.

I really suck at UV's.
I've been getting by with using blender's smart UV project thing but I never fully understood how to do it manually or do it well.
What resources/videos/people taught you how to UV better? I need recommendations on where to start
