I'm decently fit(could run 10k without going embarassingly slow, but I'm no elite athlete), was thinking about picking up combat sports. there's a local gym, it seems one membership covers all the classes they have.
They offer 2 no-gi/"grappling", 3 mma, 2 boxing, 5 bjj, and 4 muay thai sessions, as well as some misc stuff that I'm not interested in.
I haven't done any group activities like this since early teens, so I don't really remember how physically challenging it is, would it be realistic for me to participate in all of them? would it be frowned on, like a fatty at an all you can eat trying to break the system?

Is there anything I can do to learn a martial art without having to go to a gym. Getting the basics down at least. I want to be able to defend myself.

The conversations I have on here are both comedy gold and very interesting. I'm going to start making short martial art videos about some of the conversations I have on here. I made this one a while ago and forgot about it. I plan on covering all the generic debates we have on here and funny conversations I come across.

Yes, and we celebrate all forms of it here from deep water solos to big wall ascents and everything in between! If it's related to climbing, then it's fair game for discussion.

>Can I climb?
Of course you can! And he can, and she can, and they can too--we all share a similar motivation to move ourselves across a wall. Check the vibe...

Help out an illiterate person.
I want to buy a bike for a 20km road trip every day, which it is mostly with pavement with the exception of a few part that are on dirt.
I can only afford a $600-$700 dollar bike.
So far I've only found these two:
- Cannondale Trail 8
- GT Avalanche Sport 29
Which one would /xs pick? also you can recommend another bike that is within this price range, but keep in mind that i live in France and for some reason is kinda difficult to get the most known brands.

🧡 How long did it took you to find the right gym?

Anonymous No. 119021

I've been into martial arts since I'm 16 and only found the actual place I decided to stay until this year (at 25), I guess I was looking for a not so common thing

-ITF Taekwon-Do (1 year)
-WTF Taekwon-Do (4 months)
-ITF Taekwon-Do (1 year)
-Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu (1 year and 2 months)
-Muay Thai (6 months)
-Judo (2 months)
-ITF Taekwon-Do/Kick-Boxing (6 months and counting)

The first two Dojangs I attended were your typical TKD places, heavy on competition but light-contact. then there was the third TKD place wich was a small recently opened Dojang run by a college friend, it was more "traditional" in wich it resembled more the Shotokan schools I saw on Youtube rather that the TKD places I had already attended, when the Dojang closed I tried a Kung Fu place were the instructor was pretty cool and so was the people there, the only problem, the man was open minded about everything exept sparring, he thought a Krav Maga approach would make Kung Fu more legit, then there was the Muay Thai gym, wich again, was your average MT/K1 experience but there was an issue, the instructor barely intructed me (I was the only dude in the gym one night and he barely supervised my training) so I changed again, the Judo place was fine exept for one small issue, lots of young people doing Judo, 11-14 year olds screaming and laughing all the time I just couldn't take it, it was sad since the Dojo was pretty heavy on randori both Tachi-waza and Ne-waza, after that I stayed lazy for months untill one day, I saw a flyer on Facebook for a "Full Contact Taekwon-Do" class wich immediatly caught my attention, what I had realise so far about myself was that I wanted the traditional martial arts experiece but I also wanted sparring (real sparring) so I said "what the hell I'll go" and it was finally what I've been looking for and I'm still amazed it took so much to find I teacher that suited my needs

Yes, it is, and we celebrate all forms of it here! From bare naked deep water soloing in Vietnam to multi-day expeditions in the frozen Bugaboos to sweaty training sessions inside your local plastic kingdom, anything goes here.

>Can I climb?
Of course you can! And he can, and she can, and they and them can, and whoever the fuck else has the motivation to move their body across a wall. Check the vibe...

🧡 Am I too kind hearted in sparring?

Anonymous No. 118725

FYI I did some sessions of Dutch sparring and they are different from the more technical and normal tame spar and I can sense its usefulness, but when I spar technically, I never give powerful punches to the head (no reason to, don't wanna hurt my partner's brain senselessly) so I might just up the strength on my kicks to the lower body and such but the opponents usually go pretty rough in on kicks and punches to the face (I manage to dodge them sometimes) why?
I thought we were training to fight during sparring sessions not just going head hunting, I don't understand why this behavior is so prevalent, how do I deal with this?
I avoid letting their behavior get a hold of me and start beating ourselves up, but why it be like this?

Good night, sweet prince.

https://nypost.com/2022/10/01/antonio-inoki-wrestling-icon-and-japanese-politician-dead-at-79/

>Inoki brought Japanese pro-wrestling to fame and pioneered mixed martial arts matches between top wrestlers and champions from other combat sports like judo, karate and boxing.

>He also was the first in his sport to enter politics. He promoted peace through sports and made more than 30 trips to North Korea during his time as a lawmaker in hopes of forging peace and friendship.

>Inoki, who was battling a rare disease called amyloidosis, died earlier Saturday, according to the New Japan Pro-Wrestling Co., of which he was the founding president. Inoki was upbeat and in good spirits, even as he was fighting the disease.
